I’m glad you talked about the blue hue. I was wondering if the grandkids were playing with my TV settings. Or I was having vision problems. The boys bounced back and had the ice tilted in OT. Could have had gone either way.
Hey Whiskey, just a fun fact. Tomaš Tatar his first name Tomáš is pronounced similiar to Dobeš. So Tomáš not Thomas. He's a great guy and is only 9 points away from 500 points in the NHL. I hope he's gonna make it. Btw Slaf was on the ice for all the goals. 2 important secondary assists and was screening the Carrier goal. So not the NJ defender but Slaf made a good job there. New Jersey is a pretty good team, and streaks end. When I looked at the schedule for January I was quite worried, I think Montreal has done well considering. It's not over yet, Winnepeg coming in on Tuesday. Hopefully they can get a day of rest and get some work done on Monday
He played pretty well this game, I think what stuck out to me the most is he seemed to be the only one able to get it out of our zone twice. I was going to lose my mind on some of those long defensive zone times!!! 😡
Refs always make bad calls, you can’t blame the refs for a loss. Most of the so called no calls are just not penalties.Hirscher was slashed and injured and the refs did not call a penalty and it ended in the second goal.
I think my original comment didnt send properly, oh well time to rewrite it! My overall opinion of this game is that: we can't win them all. I just wanna say, that pass was not Mathesons fault… unfortunately if you are passing lateral on the blueline and know you both are last men back, then immediately after the pass you need to fall back or be positioned too because you become the last defender by default. Especially if the pass is bobbled… sorry Laine! Matheson got tosses under the bus a bit, and we all know he’s exactly the most offensively capable player
Well we found Matheson’s fan club president Matheson has been an offensive zone / cycle / pressure momentum killer with his passes into skates, shots into shinguards if he’s not just simply giving the puck away. I agree there was probably a missed call or two, but not at the 8:50 mark. Allen had clearly made the save and held the puck for about 3 seconds, definitely long enough for a whistle. I would want to hear the audio as well, but this was a good call.
Ex Habs players always seem to perform well against us. I miss Tatar. He really played well for us. I loved Dobes performance on that third goal against him by Tatar. A gutsy poke check, followed by a save. - he just did not get the second save. Not his fault. He played a great game. The Devils are a really tough team who want the playoffs just as much as we do. It is going to be a battle every single night. I agree Whiskey that maybe our guys are a little tired making the odd sloppy play. It’s hard to go a whole game without a few mental lapses - bad turnovers, whiffing on your shot, etc……
It’s the first time this year that I am so frustrated that I throw something on the ground after the final goal screaming « Matheson ». Come on man. Then I calmed. It’s all ok. I didn’t realize how bad the officiating was this game so as much as i was angry at Matheson i’ll take some heat off if him and have the refs also have their share of the blame. That being said idk what happened but ever since last Saturday the boys have a hard time on defense i think they are getting fatigued.
The first line played a strong game. Any thoughts on Slaf giving a facial to Allen before the second goal? What a load! Matheson did a terrible, terrible job. On the other hand, I really like Kaiden Guhle-he’s going to be a key defenseman for this team.
Looks like some of the Habs are tired...resting some of these guys by rotating them out for a couple games could do wonders. Hutson, Anderson, Matheson, Evans....
We're seeing the difference - New Jersey is a good team that has been playing poorly over the past few weeks. Montreal is a not so good team that has been playing well over the past weeks. There is still a long ways to go in this rebuild kids. At the end are the players good enough to win on a consistent basis and put them in contention for a cup? Is the team good enough. Not yet but they're on the right track. Time to make some tough decisions. It's a process Mental health issues are real and it's great that you have a support system in place in the courage to speak about them. I'd encourage anyone to seek help and treatment when faced with these issues There is no shame in it and we should all work to remove any stigma around these issues.
@whiskeylung ya the big picture is ice time cole caufield gets just over 17 mins a game he's our biggest star in my opinion why does every other star get like 21 mins a game no wonder we haven't had a 40 goal man in 40 years..also 1st ppl unit alway comes off 2 fast...go Habs go
Montreal can't keep getting outshot 2-1 every first period. I am happy we are stealing points in these games , but we need to get a lock on our shot suppression. The 4 nations tournament can't come soon enough ,Montreal needs a chance to chill , recharge , refocus and move forward..
For me Dobes, Caufield and Guhle caught my eye this game. Dobes - Duh Look at the man he AMAZING! Caufield - Directing the first line using Slaf and Suzuki to make plays. I hoped Suzuki would do this a bit more especially with how well Slaf and Caufield are playing, Suzuki could stand up a bit more (eventhough he gets the points) and direct that first line. Guhle - I think showed fighting spirit especially the second half of the first period when it feels like the habs are not as sharp I liked the energy with which Guhle was battling along the boards. Little Montreal love hearts for Whiskey: 💙🤍❤
Same here ! Didn’t like their game at all . First period was atrocious, thought Dobes looked weak on two first goals but he was at least able to bounce back in the second period . The crazy schedule they had in the past couple of weekend seems to be catching up to them . They havn’t gotten two straight days off in a while now and they look tired . Good thing they have sunday and monday off , they play Winnipeg on tuesday ! Yikes ! Hang in there bud ! Seasonal depression is a bitch , I know , but springtime isn’t that far away . Vitamin D suplements and regular excercise help me get through it .
Hey, first time seeing your videos, i didn't notice the kovacevich stick hold, you're right should have been a penalty, and the trip was questionable. but you also missed or decided to not talk about all the non calls on the Habs (Khule, Suzuki, Matheson). that's okay tho, as a Devils fan i am biased just like you and everyone else. just saying as an outsider who happened to click on this is, it's pretty one sided just something to watch out for. all in all I thought it was a very good game for both teams, came very close. good luck, Habs are on the rise!
Oh man that one on Hutson and refs not calling... I think our first D pair is gassed out, they have to work that out, Hutson and Matheson have been making odd mistakes. Not a bad game overall, miss Heino is this kind of games!
Heineman is sorely missed. It’s incredible seeing the different Habs communities all come to the realization that Email Heineken was a load bearing pillar to the team! Plus he looks like the guy from Shawshank redemption.
Hey man, I liked your takes on this game... But man... Matheson... I mean could this guy like, ever, shoot on anything else than the opponent's shin pads or the boards ? I get that he can be unlucky but his decisons making gotta be a lot better to play on the top 4 or PP or OT ! This guy is supposed to be a veteran but, other than in the lockerroom or in front of tje journalists, does not show it on the ice most nights ! To me, he's one of this team biggest liability because of the amount of time he plays and his quality of play. Anyways... We'll see next game 🤷 Thx for your content
I'm done defending him; enough is enough. How many games does he cause a goal against? The only reason he's on the top pair is because we have no better RD to pair with Hutson. Sure, when Matheson is great, he's great. But for every time he does something good, there's two mistakes. He needs to figure it out or sit.
Last year when Slaf was in his hot streak Matheson kept shooting instead of passing to him i was to a point where i was saying Slaf is invisible to Matheson he’s amazing when he is but it’s rare this year and he to be blunt sucks on offense this year.
Matheson is a great defender. He’s even a great playmaker! I don’t mind his spot on the team and im not gunna head hunt lol but i know exactly where you guys are coming from… i see it as well. He has zero offensive ability and typically when he tries a rush or gets involved in an offensive end play, he just doesn’t get anything going and its waisted, and even worse it sometimes leads to a horrible chance or bounce the other way. I understand he’s gotta try and get in the mix, but not everyone is Hutson lol i think after this many fumbles as a quarterback im not sure if he should keep trying and practicing or maybe he should admit defeat lol he also needs to just get the puck on net from the blueline… stop trying to thread the needle lol he always hits a guy and send a bad bounce the other way. Its hard to watch
I know what you mean. 😞 It’s such a shame because he was 7th in the league for points for defensemen last season - he has some great qualities but he literally is the reason we lose games.
thanks mang. I'm okay its like this EVERY January. It'll come and go - my birthday is this week, going to spend some fun times with the kids and that always puts me in a good frame of mind.
NHL, NFL, NBA are scripted till end. Some teams that weren't supposed to win games started winning them. So it's up to the referees to set the direction of the game. Let no one be angry with me for this opinion. But already for the second season, I notice how the referees purposefully go after only a few teams. It's all predetermined who will win. Or it would be good to look at the referees. Suspend them for XY matches for bad decisions in the game and send them to retrain the rules.
Great effort, 2 months of high battle hockey yeah the team looks tired coming out of the gates lately Either slow 1/2 of game or not enough in tank for 1/2,half of games The one constant is Matheson killing momentum in offensive zone with passes into skates, shots into shin guards. In defensive zone putting his D partner in pressure situations, failing to get pucks out of zones or clean breakouts, the diving and flopping like Tyler Myers in front of his crease doesn’t help either Habs have been winning despite him not because of him Yeah he gets 1-3 breakaways a year looks great with open ice and speed but his defensive play is not worthy of 25 mins a night. I would rather keep Savard in a 6-7th D depth for 1-2 years helping Reinbacher / Mailloux settle in Move out Matheson since Ghule & Hutson are clearly better at both ends of ice Vancouver could use a mobile D, trade him for a Joshua bring back size / speed / grit / can chip in offensively / PK Something like that. Matheson would not be a part of my core if I was team building the Habs on D moving forward, not with Reinbacher and Mailloux waiting to come in. He’s a good asset, I’m sure he’s a great guy, love to have a beer with him. But hockey is a business, I don’t care for his game as a L shot offensive minded D paired up with a guy like Hutson Hutson needs a right shot D defense first 2 way D - Currently Reinbacher / Carrier in organization Ghule Hutson Arber Strubble Engstrom Trudeau All LD all serviceable Matheson is log jamming
Yeah the refs were up to no good once again, they have been picking on Montreal a lot lately, with bad calls or worse no calls when they should. Hope you feel better soon, sooner or later we all get those pesky winter blah's.
Yep, all game I was noticing NJ getting away with multiple penalty calls, I notice it often that Habs are often, not always, at the bad end of bad officiating, the calls on them are typically fair, but about 50% of the games, the other team, doesn't matter if they're home or away, will be getting away with lots of hooking, grabbing, goalie interference, interference and as of late, cross checking isn't being called on anybody, even the Habs get away with it. I wants refs to be like during the 2012-2013 shortened season to about 2018-19, it seems like something changed during the covid years that brought them back to almost pre-2005/lost season awfulness and leaving one team alone more so than some teams that seem marked by the refs... It seems like since Heineman was hit by a car in SLC, thats when problems started. That is literally some of the worst luck, what is it with hockey players and getting run over lately? Bunting was lucky that it was minor enough that he didn't miss a game. The lack of Heineman on the third line is showing is all I can say, he was doing very well and kind out of nowhere for a rookie, he was at a respectable third most goals for a rookie when he got injured and he's great defensively too.
Matheson messed up this game he should be traded Immediately he does nothing for this team except mess up he caused the first and third goals of the game and the ot goal
Hahaha too true! Even after the first two goals I saw someone in a thread unironically saying: “trade Dobes and Montembault we need a true #1 goaltender” I nearly had an embolism.
@@ripleybaierproblem is matheson is too inconsistent for us to push for a play off spot. His either the best player on the ice or the biggest bone head. He just keeps shooting into the defenders shin pads or shoots on goalie without screens for an easy glove save.
@ripleybaier no, matheson was bad from the first minute he played for us, even though he may have had 62 points last season he also had more mistakes and the points are worth nothing if he messes up that much, you can see it in tonight's game he had 0 points but messed up on 3 occasions and that cost us the game, I already wanted him out a year ago when he was supposed to be good...

7:13 happened to me last night in my game, went in for a 50/50 puck, it bounced and went off my head. Not like that though, what a trooper.
No! No facials in hockey! No talking about Slaf's load! 😬
It's a process
Mental health issues are real and it's great that you have a support system in place in the courage to speak about them. I'd encourage anyone to seek help and treatment when faced with these issues There is no shame in it and we should all work to remove any stigma around these issues.
Lost it at the Dahmer bit ..damn dude 😂
Evans 2 shifts in overtime slaf no shifts
Yeah what gives? Slaf had a smart game, grinded it out in the D zone too?
@whiskeylung ya the big picture is ice time cole caufield gets just over 17 mins a game he's our biggest star in my opinion why does every other star get like 21 mins a game no wonder we haven't had a 40 goal man in 40 years..also 1st ppl unit alway comes off 2 fast...go Habs go
its the wind hahaha
Great video whiskey!
I’m just going to stop watching their first period. Love your movie clips 😅
Little Montreal love hearts for Whiskey:
💙🤍❤
Kevin Smith.. is that you 😅🤭
I am so done with Matheson.
You and like A LOT of people in the online habs community anyway.
Hope the Bills go to the Super Bowl
GO BUFFALO BILL!
The refs are avoir to give much less penalty for the test of the season I van feel it. It’s up to the teams to adapt.
Ay what about Suzuki cross checking Hischier (no call) so he coughs it up and Caulfield goes on to score. Brutal.
It was Anderson wasn’t it?
Jeffery Dahmer? Really?😂
Maybe a little bit in poor taste. 😅
@ it was hilarious 😆
Take care of yourself my friend.
Also I think there was interference on 28 before the ot winner he clearly does a little chicken wing and disrupts Mathason from going to defend
Yeah there was some interference on that play but oh well guess we had a point
no way he was ever going to catch him, they aren't going to call something inconsequential in OT
Once again thay didn’t show up for the first period,
I'm starting to see a pattern.
@@whiskeylung gotta play 60 in the league, your channel is absolutely amazing
We need 3 periods boys look alive more in the first
I call these games Buttman Specials.
I enjoy that.
When will you see that no Canadian team will win as long as Bettman is there? Having referees playing against us is just business as usual.
Devils fan here, we have had a bad relationship with the refs too this year. Not just you guys
Yeah I think I saw some of that even highlighted on SportsCenter.
@@whiskeylung he does!! 🤣
MA PAROLE!
They shouldn't play their top guys against weaker teams.
Anyways... We'll see next game 🤷
Thx for your content
It’s such a shame because he was 7th in the league for points for defensemen last season - he has some great qualities but he literally is the reason we lose games.
The next two games are against top-level teams. Montreal will really need better efforts!
cheer up and we are here if you need to talk
thanks mang.

Have you read McMafia?
Matheson was definitely the victim in that dahmer clip
Bwahahahaha!!!
Great effort, 2 months of high battle hockey yeah the team looks tired coming out of the gates lately
Either slow 1/2 of game or not enough in tank for 1/2,half of games
The one constant is Matheson killing momentum in offensive zone with passes into skates, shots into shin guards.
In defensive zone putting his D partner in pressure situations, failing to get pucks out of zones or clean breakouts, the diving and flopping like Tyler Myers in front of his crease doesn’t help either
Habs have been winning despite him not because of him
Yeah he gets 1-3 breakaways a year looks great with open ice and speed but his defensive play is not worthy of 25 mins a night.
I would rather keep Savard in a 6-7th D depth for 1-2 years helping Reinbacher / Mailloux settle in
Move out Matheson since Ghule & Hutson are clearly better at both ends of ice
Vancouver could use a mobile D, trade him for a Joshua bring back size / speed / grit / can chip in offensively / PK
Something like that.
Matheson would not be a part of my core if I was team building the Habs on D moving forward, not with Reinbacher and Mailloux waiting to come in.
He’s a good asset, I’m sure he’s a great guy, love to have a beer with him.
But hockey is a business, I don’t care for his game as a L shot offensive minded D paired up with a guy like Hutson
Hutson needs a right shot D defense first 2 way D -
Currently Reinbacher / Carrier in organization
Ghule
Hutson
Arber
Strubble
Engstrom
Trudeau
All LD all serviceable
Matheson is log jamming
Yeah the refs were up to no good once again, they have been picking on Montreal a lot lately, with bad calls or worse no calls when they should.
Hope you feel better soon, sooner or later we all get those pesky winter blah's.
I guess the refs had money on NJ this game.
Lol stop crying
Matheson messed up this game he should be traded Immediately he does nothing for this team except mess up he caused the first and third goals of the game and the ot goal
Jesus christ, as soon as a guy has a bad game or we have a bad stretch it's trade him, fire the coach. Can y'all actually just be fans caliss.
Hahaha too true! Even after the first two goals I saw someone in a thread unironically saying: “trade Dobes and Montembault we need a true #1 goaltender”
I nearly had an embolism.
@@whiskeylung I don't get it man, stand by the team no matter what.
Is heinamen that important to the Habs.
HES THE GLUE APPARENTLY! hahaha I think they're all just at their breaking point.
They need more sleep and less practice
