Foil drive is great for beginners. I used a foil drive when I first started winging. I had lots of windsurf and some windfoil experience but when I started winging I had a hard time getting up on foil. I did not want to waste my time with the walk of shame, I wanted to foil. I've seen some people struggle for a whole season learning how to get up on foil. The foil drive got me over the learning hump quickly in 15 sessions. After 30 or so sessions I sold the foil drive. I think the weight of the foil drive is a bit of a negative during transitions. I have a downwind board now for light wind winging. It's almost as easy to get up on foil as the foil drive was.
Foil drive absolutely cool and fun thing to have, but craaazy expensive. Waiting for our Chinese friends when they figure it out and help the market to make this toy a little bit more affordable.
I have a FoilDrive and they are very expensive. Two little plastic clamps the hold the battery box closed, are over $100.00 and fail often. They have a new motor, with small improvements that is $500. Yes the $1000 battery is not their fault, it is some other company who is pricing this. They only add thier mark up. FoilDrive is a wonderfull product. I can afford to support this technology, but I would love to see them have some competition. Stoke Foil Boost has a great product, but is not a light weight e-foil. They didn't build it for a 200 plus lb rider to catch waves, like FoilDrive did. The rumor is that the Stoke unit is working on a battery that will make it competitive with with FD e-foil max. I love capitalism. It won't be long until Amazon will sell one for a quarter of the cost. 😅
I just checked on Amazon. They sell complete wing foiling package for under 2 grand. They have underwater thrusters for $700, with small batteries. They may be for kayaks, or models. No telling about quality, but it is the future. FD had better make thier millions while they still can. Power to the inventors.
The value added to an existing winger is clear. Taking a total beginner to competency with the potential savings and streamlining of their quiver is another kettle of fish. lol the devil is always in the details.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Wasn't it difficult to handle the remote together with the wing ?
Well summarised Jeff :)
Can you show how to manage the throttle with the wing. Holding the throttle and hard handled wing seems complex
You can use the paddle mount for some handles. Others you can just strap to the handle.

Sadly, the price of high capacity batteries and quality motors are trending upwards but we can all pray for that to change ;)
