Terry Harris the mmmmm thing was about the last paragraph you wrote. In my experience not every Eastern European person was deluded some were homesick for whatever reason and I even met a Polish lady that was homesick for a few months because she left everything behind including her then boyfriend then they broke up after she returned from a holiday home since they weren’t getting on well prior to her coming here the UK then a few months later she met a Indian- British boy, got married, had children and they have now been together for 14 years had it not been for these problems they probably would not have crossed paths at least not in this way. I have a close friend from Lithuania that has been back and forth but he’s now settled here because he came to the realisation that in Lithuania he’s not able to live the life he wants. I could go on and on for hours. You weren’t fully wrong, I do know people that have returned but many are still here.
Terry Harris Some Lithuanian and Latvian people are happy to be part of the EU at least for now that’s all I can say. My Eastern European past is from a long time! I’m mixed.
Terry Harris My father works in construction a person is person regardless of what they do for a living. I know the feeling of seeing your industry stalling or when there are little to no jobs in what you qualified for. I used to see a lot of people let’s say 10 or 20 going into a 3 bedroom flat or whatever for a couple of years because rent and bills here are horrendous specially in London. Now it’s almost impossible because most landlords use agencies to find their tenants and they often want professionals, people with good scoring rates or people who are ready to pay six months worth of rent.
It's heartbreaking to know that anyone has to live this way, that sad old man absolutely broke me. Nothing will ever be any better until everyone has a roof over their heads, food on their plate, and a livable income.
I hired a car in Bucharest and drove around Romania, Moldova, Transnistria about 9 years ago.... During Autumn. Transylvania, Moldova, and Transnistria were all absolutely beautiful. Along with Georgia & Abkhazia the most beautiful and Interesting parts of Europe I've been too...

If only Russia could strike a damn deal with Romania/Moldavia , i think this nation should be recognized if the people wish to do so via a referendum. There is no point otherwise , it makes Moldavia and Transnistria unsafe and poor. Damn politicians they will never understand that the wish and the benefit of the people comes first. Hi from Romania!
Geto Dacul Transnistria doesn't even know what they want. Why would they vote in the Moldavian election that just happened? And they also want their own thing? It doesn't sound ideal. Regarding Moldova, Romania helped a lot financially, and therefore I personaly care for Moldavians. I hate when things aren't either black nor white. If Transnistria doesn't like unity, I hope Moldova will consider it. After all, Moldova speaks Romanian mostly. Transistria doesn't seem to; so I guess they should come forward and establish their state and we should also recognize it once and for all. What you fail to understand is that it is fully in Russia's interest to keep both Moldova and Transnistria poor. By striking a deal, the rest of Moldova would move towards the West. Same situation in Ukraine. Russia wants Donetsk and Luhansk to remain part of Ukraine in order to create permanent dysfunction.
What they really need is to not be land locked. If they had a port they could export. Tourist would visit more too. I would live to backpack the countryside. Lovely place.

Help this old men? Why dont you start and help some people in need in Chile? Thats just in front of your housedoor! This poor people will be very gratefull as well - just do it, look around, turn your head and I am sure you will find somebody near you, i.e. a single mother ar a handicapped peson. JUST DO IT!
Jochen Kissly Yes, and I've done it many times, so don't tell me how this should be. I know by self-experience that it's very grateful giving some charity to people in need and being an altruist person. I think all people should be like this. ;)
@Nicola Valverde Well done Mr Valverde, you did, you do what many people are not doing. Thanks a lot. I by myself do this in Transnistria already, bringing used medical equipment to Tiraspol. And its unbelievable - fourth world standard in Europe. A disgrace, seeing old people begging for money to buy some bread or fish. Best wishes to you!
There is some good news, just 2 days ago the PM of Maldova and the leader of Transnistria met formally in Bender. I hope that once relations are more solid and the people are more willing the two countries can work together to make life better for the citizens of both countries.
I lived in Tiraspol and Bender when I was younger. I feel bad for the old guy. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people living there in that same situation. The only family member I have left there is my aunt, but we help her out whenever we can so she's better off than most people that live in Bender.
I am a Norwegian. I have been to Transnistria 4 times. I do not care about, Russia, Moldova, Ukraine nor Romania. The people is so nice and welcome you with an open heart...indeed. I feel so safe. I ask you, if you go to New York...are you safe in the street? no. You can walk about in tiraspol, no one will follow you and ask if you want cocaine, amfetamin or hashes....you go to New York different story. I recommend Transnistria as a very nice place.
I felt bad for the old man from Bender where he lives alone as he said 'it is difficult to exist without a wife and kids' and he cried.. i hope the gov't. will hear their pleas. it's an eye-opener and kudos to the people doing this documentary 💗👍💗

As a traveler and videographer i have one question: How did you managed the permission to stay for that long in Transnistria? I was able only to stay 2 days PS. Nice video
Danke für diesen schönen Film, Frau Bauchina. Ich war 2014 selbst dort und habe bei Herrn Smolenski gewohnt. Hat mich sehr gefreut das alles nochmal zu sehen. :)
It's a typical assignment in ex-Soviet schools and, sometimes, colleges. An English teacher asks pupils to draw a poster about the culture of a certain English-speaking country or territory. This poster on Wales will likely be replaced by something else next semester.
+bibi This people are fighting for their freedom - not becoming USAmerican slaves! Better being a free wolfe in the woods than a dog with a chain living in a doghouse and having no freedom. This peope dont want to have Coca-Colonialism. Better being poor and pride than an USAmerican slaves! Russia is smarter than USA! 30 Years ago Russia realized it could not win in Afghanistan - and it was a mistake to go there. USA and NATO still hope they will win! And every day coffins with their dead children are brought back to USA, Germany, Canada and and and. What is NATO fighting for in Afghanistan? Defending and protecting landlords cultivating narcotics? I think so!
I loved the film. Did't you find it difficult to film the interviews given the fact that taking pictures of some buildings is known to be ilegal? Very nice work! Cheers! :)
Uhmm about Estonia, we still have some Russian sounding street names. "Red street", "St. Peterburg road", "Russia street" etc. Also plenty of memorial statues/stones around Estonia that commemorate Russia. Those street names were also renamed by Soviets from former names so why shouldn't we rename them back? How come Soviets were the ones to rename them rightly? It is true though that there aren't any Lenin/Stalin statues in the smack down middle of town center as it should be. Why glorify someone who invades.
Tonite "literally nobody cares about you" I .'literally' was replying to what the guy in this video said and was calling it out as semi-BS. You also replied so...kind of a double standard you are going for there. We also aren't crying about anything, our country is trying to catch up to Western/old Europe living standards - we have a goal. By some measurements Greece and Portugal are already on the same par. Ironically some countries clinging to their past glory days are the ones crying. Russia has more resources contributed to call out "Reemerging facists" in Europe than Estonia has anything going against Russia. They might be our some sort of Boogieman along the small number of migrants we get but 99% of our lives are towards building our state up. You have oil and the most natural resources any country has, you still are slightly below Estonias living standard and its 2016. Think about that for a second.
Tonite Well lets look at actual sites with some statistics and not just blind "you this and that". 2015 main partners were EU members (75% export, 83% import). Main export partners were Sweden 19%, Finland 16%, Latvia 10%. For imports Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania. Russian share of our export market is 7% (almost the same as Lithuania with 6%) and import market 6% (same as Netherlands). Info from stat.ee . As for population...are you serious? Population size does not really matter when it comes to PPP per capita or other such statistics. Thats the idea of such stats, it makes it about individuals so you can compare. I don't care if my neighbors have 140m or 440m people. As long as I can earn a decent wage I am fine. Besides our small size doesn't really matter on a bigger scale either. Russia is a federation of many semi-official states or areas. You are sentralised to Moscow region in terms of power. If you go by that we are in a vanilla federation with the EU and we adopt some guidelines and laws given by EU. So if you want to "scale up" then you would go with EU or the other Baltics that would make us comparable to Finland. I find it quite unique and epic that a people that numbered around 500,000-3,000,000 in history managed to create some kind of state/nationality after all the years being under some other power. Our passport, therefor identity, is more trusted than that of a Russian citizen.
Dicio Stop talking about EU im German. Russia gave your country hundreds of companies in Soviet times while people beyond the Ural stil dont have full working infrastructure. You are supposed to thank Russia and not hating. If they were that bad they would had kept your country in 1990 and there would be no one who could do anything about it, but they let you go. What does the population and country size have to do with wealth? - you have no idea what it means to control such gigantic country that has more boarders then any othe country in this world with such venomous neighbors like estonia. its so easy to provide internet and infrastructure to everyone in such a small "country" I really wish you had boarders with Chechna or Turkey i would laugh my ass off
I am a Romanian and I want reunification with Moldova but I think if these people want independence they should get it. Look at Crimea, they had a referendum where they agreed to be annexed by Russia.
I agree. As much as I'd like for Transnistria to be a part of Romania (once Romania and Moldova unite) I don't think it will happen. For now reunion with Moldova is good and possibly in the future southern Bassarabia and northern Bukovina should also return to Romania Greetings from Mexico
"Interesting" place...no doubt with interesting people. I am intrigued as I tend to travel to get my mind blown rather than sitting on a beach or spending money to go to nightclubs. Looking at the Balkans in the fall, may well add this leg "up north"
If you can, please convey best wishes to the soldier. Also, despite everything, what a wonderful people to have some of the world's most beautiful cats!
The size of a country doesn't determine its sucess. All a country needs to have is good government policies and quality and affordable education for its people. If that happened, poverty and corruption would end.
it was called the "sheriff republic" and had very little to do with a soviet state.. just for the symbol, more like a corrupt president doing a lots of money with his holding
Nice documentary Very nice one , you did ana amazing job very deep very instructive very pertinent XD i dont know i did enjoy watching it keep up the good work 1 sub earned !!
Seeing this video really reminds me of North Dakota in the United States. North Dakota may not have been a communist dictatorship like Transnistria, but it certainly has some commonalities with Transnistria from its older, crumbling infrastructure to its rural, aging population being left behind by the world economy and living in the shadow of the 20th century. Until the oil industry sprung up in 2012-2013, many people (especially young people) in North Dakota would flock to Minnesota or the West Coast looking for jobs or to escape the brutally harsh winters comparable to that of Russia because there was just no incentive for them to stay there. I hope the people of Transnistria can hopefully achieve prosperity through economic cooperation with its neighbors and hopefully re-opening its mines which was no doubt the economic lifeline of the country, similar to that of North Dakota's oil industry today and wheat industry of the 1920's.
Great documentary on a place that was unknown and very happy that the locals feel God and can farm their land and live as a community. Please continue to spread this kind of place that is not so known to West. Thanks.
My father is a Transnistrian War veteran. We are from Moldova. He knows the real truths about this conflict and most importantly the fact that Transnistria started this war. They were deep into the Soviet union shit hole that they were too incompatible with our world.
It seems that who made this video tried to make the country look the more depressing as possible, but instead what appears is a peaceful, genuine, human and pleasant country.
The nature and the gentle wind makes it look peaceful, however people there are really struggling to survive on low income... Children don't receive proper education at schools, the alcoholism levels are high, it is very common for parents to hit their kids to make them obey, thus the people there are extremely inhibited and easily manipulated. Domestic violence against women is also very common, and it is even considered to be normal. Many people work abroad (mostly in Russia) to earn more money to be able to support their children who are left to the care of their grandparents. Russian propaganda is everywhere, that's what makes Transnistrian citizens love their country despite the misery they live in.
The country is unfortunately poor. The jobs are difficult. But it looks so peaceful there. There aren't many Transnistrian's partaking in the Moldovan Protests.. If only Russia would allow its Union into the Union State of Russia and Belarus, then everything would be ok, but I know that the International Community would become outraged and further isolate Russia if it recognizes the Transnistrian Republic. Even in March 2015 when Russian Officials flew to Transnistria to donate them 5 Electric Buses and other Humanitarian Aid, they were stopped and prevented from taking off into Moldovan Airspace for a few hours.. Hopefully, soon, maybe there will be peace in Eastern Ukraine, and when there will be peace in the DPR and LPR, then I'm sure the process of integrating TMR can slowly begin!
+drusik, even as I support Moldova, Ukraine & Georgia joining the EU, I still support Transnistria, Southern & Eastern Ukraine, Abkhazia & the other breakaway territory in Georgia to join Russia if they so wish. Let's face it, the majority of the people in Transnistria, Southern & Eastern Ukraine & Abkhazia don't want to join the rest of Moldova, Ukraine & Georgia in joining the West, they want to join Russia & the Eurasian Economic Union, so I'm absolutely in support of them being recognized as independent states & them breaking away from their host countries to join Russia if to so wish, while the rest of their host countries join the EU & the West. It's a win for everyone in that scenario; Russia still gets to keep influence & allies in Eastern Europe while the rest of them get to join the West. Neither side is going to have it all & both sides want it all. But, sorry West & Russia, you can't have all of that land in my book. Share the land, call it a day & attempt to try to get along with each other, even if you're both stuck in 1975.
Cody Crouse I understand where you're coming from. If Kosovo wanted independence that NATO had to bomb it out of Serbia, why can't Transnistria, South Ossetia, Akbhazia, Nagorno-Karakbo have the same priviledges? Only because Politician's don't care about the actual people, actual democracy. It's mostly because the People's support isn't in their favor. The US never condemned Chechnyan Terrorist attacks and Separatism, even though they took elementary school and theaters as hostages and fought alongside Al-Qeada. I bet if Crimea would be part of Russia and voted to join NATO, they'd be putting crazy pressure on Russia if the situation would be Vice-Versa. Scotland wants to have an independence referendum, that for some reason is legal (more or less), but small nations that fought for theirs aren't recognized, even though the US should understand Independence Fighting the most.. American Revolutionary War had 5,000 Spaniards and 15,000 Frenchmen die for our Independence!
+drusik I support Transnistria, but not the violent and opressive republics of DNR and LPR and Russian occupied Crimea. Unlike Transnistria, the DNR and LNR oppress it's citizens using false banners, and claiming they're something tey are not (Communists, when they are actually religious fascists). Transnistria does not, and has proven to be stable and peaceful.
@mane cun nobody in Armenia likes being a Russian colony wtf. If Armenia had a bit of Eastern Turkey and hence an access to Black Sea, our economy would improve greatly.
+Lavrentizodiac There are more than 30 million Kurds, 8 million Catalonians, 2-3 million Basques without their own countries and that's not a complete list. Meanwhile, there is no such nation as Transistrians - they are all either Moldovans, Russians or Ukrainians. This is not a country, but an artificial formation cut off from Moldova thanks to huge amount of Russian militarists located there at that time.
Here I explained everything to you. Do not be lazy and translate for yourself. forum-pridnestrovie.info/pridnestrove-cherez-obektiv-nezapadnogo-ne-zhurnalista-chast-2/
Downfall Dolfy Nobody recognized Transnistria as a country. You have internet at your service to check the information, so be a smart individual, do not be a moron, inform yourself: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transnistria
It is not occupied by Russia. Transnistria exists because the people in that region were mainly Russian speakers during the Soviet Union. After Moldova declared independence they also made the official language only Moldovan. The people in this region did not want to be part of Moldova but rather still with the Soviet Union. This is why a war began with Moldova. By the end of the war all of the Soviet Union had collapsed so it was just Transnistria left on its own. They refused to be part of Moldova. As Transnistria was now incredibly poor, Russia supplied Gas, more soldiers to help at the border (which existed prior to Russian help) and various other supplies. It is absolutely not 'occupied'. Russia does not even accept its existence. Russia had no reason to send help to this country but did. Transnistria has it's own prime minister, parliament, army and currency. Russia has only helped the region regain stability.
It's a de-facto country. Furthermore, the problem lays within European Union restrictive measures on the region and a quick removal of communism. Without the government giving factories subsidies they can't maintain them, and without an Eastern bloc to sell their goods they are forced to rely on Russia and an internal market.
If Transnistria actually liked the old Soviet Union nearly everyone would have a job. Right now they just like remembering the "good old days" instead of getting their asses up and doing something.
Compelling film. I have to admit I didn't know Transistria didn't exist until last week. It's very very sad what the people of places like Transnitria, Moldova, and Bulgaria have to live like. How do you live with no jobs? Nobody has any sympathy around the world whatsoever for the white and poor. So much for white privilege or white supremacy. If you are poor and white in this world you are invisible. God bless the young woman speaking English and trying to bring people there to visit. I really hope she can make a life for herself and maybe bring some business to her country for her good people.
Fuck Russia from Romania! Russia divided Moldova from Romania and now Putin bring army in Transnistria. They stole our land and divide a nation for their interests.
Transnistria should unite with Moldova and get east Transnistria from Ukraine. Bucovina and Budjak is Moldavian land. And Moldavia needs to come back to Moldova from Romania.
Subbhana Allah, I feel for old man he's definitely need help, it seems there are a lot of people there living very hard life ,I hope something good happens to them May Allah bless and give them better life in near future I you People of Transnistria.
Too much poverty. Even the innocent chickens you can see, are suffering severe hunger. International TV channels will always fail to show the other parts of Europe and their extreme poverty yet only interested in always painting Africans black. I always say that we in Africa are better of than most European countries. My country Ghana is far better, I bet my stone.
Elijah Tetteh Kudjordji I have a friend who works in a HUGE new and super modern hospital In Ghana. From him I know, people there are either filthy rich or die from starvation or illness which require money to be cured. He's a real good doctor and his salary is bigger than what he was offered in Switzerland and Spain...
Transnistria is just 475,000 people. The extremely poor areas of Europe are less than 5% of population. In Africa it's more like 50-60% or more. Ghana is dirt poor, congrats on being better than Transnistria, lol. Most of Africa only now got paved roads!
@@casperado666 Russians and Ukrainians make up the majority in Transnistria. Moldovans and Romanians have no business waging war and creating even more conflict in Transnistria. They’re not even capable of winning. Moreover, it’s actually Romania that would like to annex parts of Ukraine, so they too are a danger to your national interests. You can shill for Bandera all you want, he’s not coming back from the dead, and the Republic of Fakeraine is quickly losing ground while becoming even poorer than Transnistria. It was actually Russians and Ukrainians who fought for Transnistrian Independence. But, enjoy your šнìт-talking. So far, nothing has changed.
I am generally in favour for full recognition of unrecognized states, and independence movements if people want it, but this place is literally hell and is against any progress of civilization, I am not even mad that practically no one recognizes this state. If people in Transnistria want to be independent (but i doubt so) that's fine, but they should at least change the system of a country.
Don't make up stuff. In Transnistria people speak both Russian and Moldovan without problems. Moldovan (written in Cyrillic) is one of the three official languages in Pridnestrov'ye (also Russian and Ukranian).
+[Memedoze] Cyrillic suits the language better, even though it has a Latin origin. Romanian also used Cyrillic until the XIX Century or so. The Cyrillic alphabet is more efficient as it has more letters that represent more sounds.
09:30 - there is no such thing as Moldavian language. But all aside, there are Romanians living in that shit-hole...I am Romanian...dude...I feel really bad now...
Russians, Ukrainians, and the Slavic people are a majority in Transnistria. Your care should not only extend to citizens of your own country! Language is irrelevant, here.

"Il work abroad then return to be close to my mother", and then his face. That was verry cute❤️
Damnit! I felt so bad about that old man 😔. If I lived close I would definitely help him and visit him to chat and drink tea.

Jochen Kissly Yeah, why not. You're from Ukraine, so I can imagine that Transnistria is really close to your lands. You should try it! ;)
Thk you! I from here, Transnistria =) This is not so bad =)
There is some good news, just 2 days ago the PM of Maldova and the leader of Transnistria met formally in Bender. I hope that once relations are more solid and the people are more willing the two countries can work together to make life better for the citizens of both countries.
Nothing happened since then :)
They're meeting again in February 17th

I lived in Tiraspol and Bender when I was younger. I feel bad for the old guy. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people living there in that same situation. The only family member I have left there is my aunt, but we help her out whenever we can so she's better off than most people that live in Bender.
Hi.. I'm from Indonesia.
Just wanna say, Please help that old man if you live nearby. Feel very sorry for him 😢
I am a Norwegian.
People these day only care about new car ; big house and fancy food . this land only need more people and better economic then all is perfect
Nice and true comment
Who compares New York City to Tiraspol?
you are just a stupid moron. those people are starving
how long do you stayed in Transnistria? i really want to go there someday
I was able only to stay 2 days

Still confused why there's a poster on Wales at 16:39
It's a typical assignment in ex-Soviet schools and, sometimes, colleges. An English teacher asks pupils to draw a poster about the culture of a certain English-speaking country or territory. This poster on Wales will likely be replaced by something else next semester.
What freedom are these people fighting for? The freedom to be the poorest country in Europe?

30 Years ago Russia realized it could not win in Afghanistan - and it was a mistake to go there.

Defending and protecting landlords cultivating narcotics?

Awesome video ! Want to visit that country .
Keep your baltic bullshit for yourself. literally nobody cares about you. Still living in the past and crying about fictional "occupations"
Tonite "literally nobody cares about you"
I .'literally' was replying to what the guy in this video said and was calling it out as semi-BS.
Think about that for a second.
your living standard comes from Russia and Sweden. dont need to compare to Russia with your dwarft number of population lol
- you have no idea what it means to control such gigantic country that has more boarders then any othe country in this world with such venomous neighbors like estonia.
its so easy to provide internet and infrastructure to everyone in such a small "country"
I really wish you had boarders with Chechna or Turkey i would laugh my ass off

Geo There cannot be prosperity for the common man there. You cannot imagine the level of corruption. It is mind numbing.

It seems that who made this video tried to make the country look the more depressing as possible, but instead what appears is a peaceful, genuine, human and pleasant country.
The most peaceful places are cemeteries
What a beautiful country, I hope to visit it some day :)

American Revolutionary War had 5,000 Spaniards and 15,000 Frenchmen die for our Independence!
drusik, hey, thanks for the reply.

Transnistria is not a country, it is a land occupied by Russia using the military force. Take a look what kind of prosperity Russia can bring....
Downfall Dolfy Nobody recognized Transnistria as a country. You have internet at your service to check the information, so be a smart individual, do not be a moron, inform yourself: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transnistria
Believe me, it does not prevent me to travel the world countries. It's just a territory. Many are international passport, Russia, Moldova, Ukraine.
Disty 90, does the ethnic Moldovan population in Transnistria write in the Moldovan Cyrillic or Moldovan latin alphabet?
It's a de-facto country. Furthermore, the problem lays within European Union restrictive measures on the region and a quick removal of communism. Without the government giving factories subsidies they can't maintain them, and without an Eastern bloc to sell their goods they are forced to rely on Russia and an internal market.
This was heartbreaking to watch towards the end. May God Bless Them.
If Transnistria actually liked the old Soviet Union nearly everyone would have a job. Right now they just like remembering the "good old days" instead of getting their asses up and doing something.
Jacob Dalland In fact,it's the same Soviet Union preserved in Moldova in a little size.
So true, having most of their industry privatized is such a slap in the face to their communist past.
You should make a series out of it.
