For half of the fan base Riley has never been the guy we wanted. He ran a soft program at Oklahoma that played in the worst power 5 conference and had the advantage of a better roster than the rest of the big12 teams each year. He never won anything there even with the best QB talent in the country. At SC in 3 years he’s lost to any team worth beating including Utah 3 times. LSU was a big outlier. This defense people like to tout has folded up, wet the bed and coughed up leads at the end of games in all 4 losses to go along with the bad OLine, bad QB play and awful in game management by the head coach. The strategy of settling for the 3 star lineman and not spending in the transfer portal is a losing one. In year 3 the program is in the WRONG direction and it doesn’t matter who the QB is right now.

@@sportsking6399 really??? Always a better conference? The last few years the big12 had a losing record against the Pac12. Washington regularly beat the brakes off Texas and teams like Arizona were beating OU. When Riley was in the big12 texas was mediocre at best and zero defense was played by any of the teams. The ACC I’ll put over both Pac12 and Big12 because at least they’ve had multiple champions come out of the conference in the last decade in Clemson twice and Florida St once. The last champions out of the Pac12 or big12 was 2004 and 2005. Both conferences been irrelevant for 20 years.

USC is a bigger brand , more resources including money , players ,support..no excuses to lose there. He won at OU because that’s all we have and care about. We have no major football teams and Oklahoma is not a big basketball town. I don’t think the Big 12 was a weak power conference. These colleges need to stop setting up the contracts with these massive buy outs. Imagine going into a career where you are expected to succeed but if you don’t you still get a massive reward for absolute failure. They need to hold the coaches accountable for their performance. Dr. Carol Folt - hired in 2019, got rid of AD, hired Bohn, got rid of Helton, hired LR, got rid of Bohn, who himself got rid of numerous national champion coaches for other programs, hired Cohen, who then changes coaches and assistants, commits to huge construction projects, and then this.
Folt, Bohn, Cohen, and many others in senior USC management are not from USC.
I know so many people who were long time staff or faculty in various departments at USC who had to leave over the past years. The leadership issue isn't the head coach. It's much deeper than that.

So SC was fooled into thinking they were getting an elite coach who could turn around the program instantly. Joe Flacco isn’t a good example of running RPO; also, if Miller was capable of running RPO, he would have. I know Riley and staff can coach. I blame the USC NIL consortium. In this day and age you are not going to compete without paying for top players like OSU, Oregon, Texas and Georgia.
With USCs player losses this season half the team on the field is third string. And yet USC is in every game.
I will say that Zachariah Branch needs to be sat down. He is too short, runs crappy routes and does not fight for the ball when contested. Most of Moss’s interceptions are when he throws to Branch. Every game a ball thrown to Branch is intercepted. Every game. So we need to set Branch down until he can earn the job on the practice squad. He is a drive killer.

SC threw this season away over the summer by not signing the portal players we needed. And I recall quite clearly that a bunch of fans were commenting like it was all part of some master plan - Lincoln's playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers, right? Some of the same people who insisted the SC shouldn't "overpay" for desperately needed D-Line and O-line players are now screaming they want Riley and his 80 mil buyout gone. This program is either going to pay elite players what they are worth, or they will be a .500 team with a ton of 3* players. Those who are not on board to pay the going rate should not be crying when SC loses. On the other hand, this team, with the exception of the QB position, is actually a lot better than last year. And Moss actually isn't playing poorly. I'd put the blame far more on the O-line who can't pass protect or the O-line coach. Also, there is zero pass rush. Wasn't UCLA sacking QB's all over the place last year? If SC is running the same scheme, where are the sacks and pressures?

  • @sikhlion5325

Weirdest thing I've ever seen in the last game was the touchdowns to those GIFTED RECEIVERS were spectacular. Moss made awesome throws. The O-Line seems better, confident & aggressive. Defense held the Terrapins to 0 rush yards in the 1st half. Unfortunately, this Dr. Jekyll Mr. Hyde complex mirrors their Game Manager. On another note: There are a ton of guys on this team that will be playing on Sunday. NFL Coaches will successfully maximize their potential. Only good thing this weekend was watching a ton of former SC players flourish in the NFL.

Riley could buy himself some time and good will… and probably better results if he brought in a smash mouth OC. Most of the other “hot shots” gave up play calling duties, or at least share them. Time to let someone else handle game management. I don’t know if this will fix the softness of the program but it will at least likely stop Riley from throwing games away in the 4th because he forgets the run game is our best asset and also hopefully not cost us a game because time outs and plays are mismanaged with a lead late in games. He’s lost his edge. He’s never had an offense worse than I believe 6 or 8 in the country and we are currently in the 50s right now. I know it took him 5 damn years to realize Grinch was a bad DC but he’s literally lost control of the one think he’s known for… offense. If he can’t realize this is a cause for change, I don’t have faith he will ever figure it out.

Fans this is all on Riley. The way he is running this program is counter to producting a winning culture. Do you believe if Branch was playing for Carroll, or Saban, that he would even be on the field? Do you believe that they would care that he is “pressing”! Branch is a 5 ⭐️ freak of an athlete, but if he can’t produce, because he’s “pressing” his ass would be on the bench. Riley is probably worried that he and his brother will transfer out. And so be it, because here at SC we play championship football and play players who want to be champions.
Cignetti at Indiana (whom I might add that USC would probably never offer a scholarship to most of the players on that roster and they would thump USC) said in a press conference after smashing Nebraska and made it clear, that we are out to take their will! Does that sound like pampering excuse making Riley?
He is the one who has created this culture of losing. USC used to say “any team, anytime, anywhere” and now Riley says that the rivalry with Notre Dame is in question, because it might keep us out of the playoffs. What a WIMP!! Does that sound like something you would hear Carroll say

    Where you go from here:
    - Start Jayden Maiava or change the play calling to power runs with a fullback. Miller Moss is choking under a stale offense that doesn’t suit his strengths. He is not a spread QB full time.
    - Recruit 6’5”+ 300lb O-Line & 300lb Interior D-Line. Go JuCo if you have to and develop. This will allow us to convert 1 yd situations like Michigan, Minnesota and Maryland. We don’t have a brotherly shove in our playbook.
    - Train your team to be killers. “We got this game in the bag” mentality killed us this season. Old USC teams were dogs and were extremely prideful. They felt disrespected when another team challenged them to a game of football. We view it as just another week of football. Not a moment to take another team’s soul, like others have done to us.

Let’s examine the situation. Riley starts off hot the first year. Then has cooled down, new defensive staff, playing younger guys. The fact we’ve lost 4 games by a total of 14 points, shows me we’re there and it’s just a matter of closing it out. What’s surprising is USC is still recruiting well and getting some big time players. You know what this situation reminds me of? Jim Harbaugh at Michigan. Started off good then slowed down for a few years and finally broke through. USC for the longest time hasn’t had the facilities needed to keep the in state talent here as they’ve continued to leave. Stroud and Young both left because USC isn’t what it was under Pete Carroll. Yes I do agree Riley needs to hit SoCal harder and maybe he does after the season ends and makes it a point. Lots of issues have prevented USC from getting back to the top since Pete Carroll left. Gotta remember Miller Miss has only started 8 games in college. Give the kid some time to develop and play. Now maybe you do need to let go of Henson and find a better OL coach but give Riley some time to fix it.

USC fans are never happy, never. This is the best 3-4 team in the history of the NCAA. They are beat down and have major injuries in the defensive side. Losing all four games by a total of 14 points? They have the same problem we all talked about at the start of the season. They are thin at several important spots in the D and that's why we are losing in the 4th quarter. Plus this team is like the old Mets, they can't win for losing. Make a 41 yd totally makable FG, they beat Maryland. How many one play f-ups has cost us games this year. This is what they have to get through. So buck-up and support them instead of tearing them down. It's a phase and I do have a strong belief this is a growing up season for this team.

Sorry Barry. Completely disagree and BTW big time USC fan and supporter.
Yes they have injuries, every team deals with them, and we are no different. Adversity is part of football.
The losses have been much more than single play mishaps. The close losses have been more about fundamental flaws in coaching, translating into poor decisions and poor play by the athletes when it matters most late in games. From HC, to QB, to questionable schemes by DC, all have contributed to the losing. What has carried us to be competitive this year, is more a reflection of the amazing athletes and level of talent in this team. But athletic talent cannot overcome bad coaching. Unless Riley completely changes (not capable IMO) or we get a new competent HC, nothing will be different moving forward.
Program is near an all time low. Not sure what happens from here, pretty sad.

@@tonychung857 Gentry, Lucas, Covington, dinged up Akili Arnold, Alexander. That is a lot of key injuries. I get it, expectations are dashed and fans want someone to blame but it's not the coaching and not the players. The whole team has to learn how to win the close game as they did against LSU. They given every game away in different ways, finding ways to snatch defeat out of a victory. Your "fundamental flaws in coaching" is basically a disgruntled fan based narrative. In fact I would venture that the negative carping discourse arising from so-called fans and internet commentators, constantly undermines the progress this team is trying to make. Am I saying shoot the messengers? No, I'm saying the message is toxic and counter productive.

I used to travel a lot and I always got jet lag the day after I traveled. So with thim leaving on Frodays... I day before the game, no wonder they run out of gas in the 2nd half! When Penn State came here, they left on Thursday, and had no problem and that was only 2 times zones. Maryland was 3 time zones and even left later on Friday...He got his advise from the Pro's but Pro's aren't in school with classes and homework...and our grown men and football is their only job! But I also think they should play Jayden Maiava

I 100% agree with you about the QB. Miller Moss is NOT the problem. The problem is his lack of O-line during pass protection. Having a mobile QB will not fix this underlying issue, and Miller is playing different because he’s always having to focus on the incoming blitz rather than his receivers. Fix the O line and Miller is an elite QB.

Riley needs to go. He’s not HC material. Maybe better as a OC or QB coach. He’s definitely not cut out for the Big10 - his decision to kick a FG on 4th and 1 sealed SC’s loss. Moreover, a power Big10 team even one like Maryland would have gone for the 1st dn by running the ball. It was a pussy move to kick the FG.

Regarding in-state recruiting, I'm not that bothered tbh. It'd be a bigger issue if were whiffing on in-state schools while also struggling out of state. But, we're clearly not. Shit, we just flipped that massive 4-star OL from Utah. Our current 2025 class is top 10. I think our 2026 is currently ranked #1 or top 3 for sure. Soooooo what's the issue???
Also, if u actually follow the kids from schools like Mater Dei, a lot of them bust in college. Shit, just look at the ones who were recently at USC: Raleek Brown, Domani Jackson, CJ Williams, etc. All have completely busted at SC. And I read an article highlighting this same issue & listed off the Mater Dei players of the last 5-6 years. Not a single notable college player outside of Bryce Young. So are we really missing out like that???
Don't get me wrong. I do think it's a bit weird b/c I'm used to the local schools being a pipeline to SC. But realistically speaking, some of these schools dont produce great colleges & well our next 2 classes are both top 10. So this is being overblown.

USC used both of its spring visits to Mater Dei and has saved its fall visit for later in this season, so it's not as if the staff is choosing not to visit Mater Dei. That article was misleading. ✌🏾

In the past I have criticized Lincoln Riley for his ineptitude. However, after watching the game reviews a couple times it dawns on me that the team "a number of persons associated together in work or activity" (thanks, mirriam-webster) is not playing as a cohesive determined group/team. Don't get me wrong, this is a talented/gifted group of individuals but that's how they play, as a group of individuals and not as a cohesive team. The difference is what we've been watching for the past 3 weeks; oops a dropped pass, oops a missed field goal, oops a bad play call, oops a turnover, you get it...when teams are strongly bound to each other they bring the synergy of all of them combined to win no matter the odds and against anyone who challenges them. Our guys are not showing that committed determined, do whatever it takes attitude and they should because they should care about the team, their teammates, the school and the brand. We Are SC, TROJANS, Fight On, Right? That's the difference between now and the Pete Carrol era; BELIEF, you ever see how Pete's teams rallied around him and how close they were, that's what we need BELIEF so shame on Lincoln Riley for not building that into this super talented bunch of athletes.

Riley is stupid for not incorporating Maiava after Michigan. We all would have been better off including Moss. Trojan Blade what is the longest run Moss has had this season? How many sneaks has Moss run? How many bootlegs has Moss run? If he has had no plays to use his feet, then it's because Riley doesn't think he has speed, right? His focus was to get Moss to be a Heisman candidate, then an NFL prospect, now at best, Moss is a transfer after the season if Maiava does what we all expect him to do. Totally mismanaged. Bruh, if Maiava comes in and we see a completely different outcome, I want you to explain why you were so blind and managed to place blame on everything and everyone but the QB position. I am puzzled by the problem solving skills of some the USC homers. Everybody should have been going crazy for Maiava to have some plays after the Michigan game.
