    I've said this for years. After winning so strongly early in his career then to hear he was making changes in his game, it floored me! I also have long thought that his back and knee injuries were exacerbated by the change in his swing. When you find perfection, don't question it, run with it!

      Well said, he tried to fix something that wasn’t broken

    • @MoMoMyPup10
      @MoMoMyPup10 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That was his problem, he was still looking for perfection. He believed _that_ swing was going to limit his potential moving forward, and that he won in spite of his swing, not because of it.

    • @MarkSmithhhh
      @MarkSmithhhh 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep. He was DISMANTLING people, nobody had played golf on that level...there was no lesson he needed...he was winning without breaking a sweat, what are you trying to fix

    • @MarkSmithhhh
      @MarkSmithhhh 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @MoMoMyPup10 true...I get that and in a lot of ways that attitude is WHY he became a legend...so if he didn't think that way he probably wouldn't have been the tiger we knew, catch 22...he just couldn't accept that his game was right where he wanted it and just focus on maintaining it and staying healthy

    Regarding his remark about Tiger not being as good at hitting the golf ball as Ben Hogan. Jack said the same thing, when Tiger was tearing up the tour, a reporter asked Jack, So is he the best ball striker you have ever seen? Without even pausing to take a breath Jack said. "oh no, that was Ben Hogan".

      Rob Roy yea but those are rich white kids. Golf has always been rich and white. If it becomes an urban sport like basketball and football it would grow substantially. Unless your school is private or in a well to do area you won't have a golf team or anything of that nature. All public schools should gave golf and billiards. They are games of dignity and respect. They are relatively cheap games to learn provided course time and equipment. There are more poor people in this country than richn and golf has always been marketed to only the upper class. They need to start building public golf courses at local parks... nothing major. 90 percent of the country can't afford those crazy club fees.

He is one of the best players to ever grace the amazing game. Hes not being arrogant he is being genuine there is a big difference. @@chancemholton6611 that may be true, but that doesn’t make me wrong. I’ve seen the man up close on more than one occasion at the ‘03 us senior open, and he couldn’t have been more of a tool to the OFCC staff and volunteers that I saw. He approached the first tee/practice green area and wanted to cut the line during a practice round. Rather than ask himself, he demanded that the starter make his request to the two groups ahead of him. When he asked, they turned their hands up to him like “wtf”, and he got even more upset and accused the starter of delivering his request improperly. Of course, when Gary approached the two groups, I didn’t hear their conversations, but he ultimately came back with his tail between his legs acting like he was doing them a favor by letting them go ahead of him. It was truly cringe-worthy behavior that I never saw from any other big name player. He’s a world class golfer, for sure, but also bully who thinks he deserves special treatment. When he’s not fawned over to his satisfaction, he’s quick to remind you of who he is. Jack, Arnold and Tom never acted like that. He’ll never be their league.

    I never took a golf lesson and I became a decent player. Not great, but decent. How good would I have been had I taken lessons from a professional? Probably little if any. My problem was power, or really, lack thereof. That can't be taught. But I knew my swing inside out because I studied it myself. And I figured that when you payed someone for lessons, you were almost obligated to take it more seriously. No more drinking a couple of beers after none holes. There suddenly was a signifcant investment in golf in money and time.

    I respect and even like Gary Player but he is talking quite a bit of nonsense here. He was right about two things though, Tiger being the most talented golfer ever and if it weren’t for some issues whether physical or otherwise that Tiger has had he would have tied and probably surpassed Jack’s records by now. He still has a chance but he has to play pretty decent for Tiger’s standards in his 40s. If he does that he can still do it.

    "Tiger and no one ever hit the ball like Ben Hogan. NOT EVEN CLOSE" were his words. Spoke to may pros and Hogan was thee best ball striker ever. Nicklaus was/is the greatest champion and mind for the game ever. Tiger was the most talented in his prime. you never know he may get it back and catch Jacks record. Hogan-Jack- Tiger....the top 3.

    What a lot of people fail to realize and is almost NEVER brought up is that Tiger is one half Asian. Calling him a black man is technically incorrect, yet he is brought up by the media and other players as an African American.

    I'm American and white and I don't look at Tiger and say, "hey there's a black man." (or Thai man). He's just a man and a genius at his trade. And he inspires just as many whites kids to play golf as any kid of other colors.

    Jack is the best championship golfer ever, based mainly on his longevity.
    I personally believe nobody was as talented as Bobby Jones. When you take in technology, equipment and agronomy, plus you didn't get to mark and clean your ball until 1937, well after Bobby left competitive golf, it's a no brainer.
    Bobby Jones hit the national golf scene in 1916.....as a 14 year old boy. It took him 7 years to win a major, the 1923 U.S. Open at Inwood on Long Island. Mind you, he never turned pro, so his entire life NEVER revolved around golf, he was, for all practical purposes, a casual golfer, played in a handful of tournaments every year.
    From 1923 to 1930, that's 7 years,he won 13 majors:
    5 U.S. Amateurs
    4 U.S. Opens
    3 British Opens
    1 British Amateur
    Don't forget, in order to play in anyting across the pond, you had to ride on a BOAT, weren't no airplanes yet. I'm pretty sure his British Amateur win was the only time he played in it.

    Wow. Gary Player is the man. Much respect to Gary. He tells it like it is. Excellent assessment. Tiger changed his game too much. If you are the best ever...why ever change that? Just win all of the majors and when a young buck rises to take over - they take over...period. Tiger.....what could have been.

  • @garlandxx3400
    @garlandxx3400 ปีที่แล้ว

    Soooo everyone says he hurt his career by making changes, but compared to whom? His closest rival is Phil Mickelson who has one barely a third of the career Tiger has. Over a 30 year period and especially between the ages of 18 and 30 a man’s body size and movement mechanics will change. Where are all the one off guys that kept their swing but only won one major against Tiger Woods. Gary Player is jealous because he was considered the global ambassador of golf and Tiger is making people go, who is Gary Player.

    Tiger is the best player that has ever lived but he could never hit the ball like Hogan! Makes sense!!

    • @interestedbystander196
      @interestedbystander196 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does make sense. Tiger wasn't the best hitter, driver, chipper, putter, etc. He was the best at scoring. Putting the shots together to have the best number on the hole/round/tournament.
      Ben Hogan was perfection in his swing, and he won a few. Jack Nicklaus has a horrible swing, but damn effective scoring. Player himself was average as a driver and iron player, but phenomenal at bunker shots, etc. Seve was a genius at imaginative shots to get out of trouble (the fact that he was in trouble so much says a lot about his swing).
      Gary has it right: Tiger was the best golfer, in terms of being able to put the lowest numbers together. The low numbers are what matter.

    • @interestedbystander196
      @interestedbystander196 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Mitchell D "this guy"?!
      Friend, you have something to learn about respect. "This guy" was a Hall of Famer before there was a Hall of Fame.
      Palmer, Nicklaus, Player. The Big Three. That's who "this guy" is.
      Anyway, I stand by my comment. Tiger WAS long yes, quite a bit longer than the others, but he was wayward as much as he was good. His irons were stunning, but he was playing from the fluff as much as from the grass. And around the greens, as you say, genius.
      I would change one thing I implied, though. I never meant Hogan had the best swing (just that his swing was better than Tiger's). The best swing, for me, belongs to Ernie.

    I like Gary Player but he's wrong here, Tiger dominated early on because he was a real athlete and was in amazing shape and on top of that he was a very good putter. Golf caught up to Tiger, golfers today are more athletic and in better shape because of Tiger and now he can't overpower them like he did from 98-2006.

    It's the Tiger Woods effect. He made the sport so popular for these new young golfers in such a way that the field is so much tougher than it ever was before. His injuries, his broken psyche, and the new young and talented field have hurt his chances of winning another major, yet alone another tournament. I think he'll be great in the Champions Tour, but in the current PGA Tour, he'll have an uphill battle going up against quite possibly the most talented field of golfers ever along with his body breaking down.

    Player had an uncanny ability to not make mistakes, most of his wins were by playing all 4 days at par or just under. That's truly amazing consistency, but not exciting rounds of low 60's type stuff.
    He is certainly a legend, but i don't consider him anywhere near close to how some of the greats played at their peaks to be offering to give the "super secret sauce" that's his pretending to offer. Sadly he sounds a bit like an old man living his glory days.

      Player is one amazing golfer. He was one of he first golfers to back in the day believe in hitting the gym and maintaining a high level of fitness to improve one's game when that wasn't a thing. He still advocates for golfer's to workout regularly. Have you seen him doing push ups and chin ups? Shit, I'm only 46 and I'm still working my way to doing one single chin up unassisted.

    • @markmark5269
      @markmark5269 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I think you didn't understand my post, in short Player was boring. Go look at most of his 4 round scores, nearly always either side of 280 with 4 rounds all 1 or 2 strokes away from par rounds.
      Ironic to Seve looking up to Player, he was the opposite, a wild player with rounds of 65's and 75's. I like exciting golf with people like Seve who take chances.
      Seve goes out wanting to hit rounds of 60, Player goes out intentionally to hit rounds of 70.
