Tupac Amaru Shakur (/ˈtuːpɑːk ʃəˈkʊər/ TOO-pahk shə-KOOR;[1] born Lesane Parish Crooks; June 16, 1971 - September 13, 1996), also known by his stage names 2Pac and briefly as Makaveli, was an American rapper, songwriter, and actor.[2] Shakur has sold over 75 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time.[3] His double disc albums All Eyez on Me and his Greatest Hits are among the best selling albums in the United States.[4] He has been listed and ranked as one of the greatest artists of all time by many magazines, including Rolling Stone which ranked him 86th on its list of The 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.[5] Consistently ranked as one of the greatest rappers ever, he was ranked number 2 by MTV in their list of The Greatest MCs of All-Time in 2006.[6] 2Pac is also ranked as the most influential rapper of all time.[7][8][9][10][11]
Shakur began his career as a roadie, backup dancer, and MC for the alternative hip hop group Digital Underground, eventually branching off as a solo artist.[12][13][14] The themes of most of Shakur's songs revolved around the violence and hardship in inner cities, racism and other social problems. Both of his parents and several other of his family were members of the Black Panther Party, whose ideals were reflected in his songs.
During the latter part of his career, Shakur was a vocal participant in the so-called East Coast-West Coast hip hop rivalry, becoming involved in conflicts with other rappers, producers and record-label staff members, most notably The Notorious B.I.G. and the label Bad Boy Records.[15]
On September 7, 1996, Shakur was shot multiple times in a drive-by shooting at the intersection of Flamingo Road and Koval Lane in Las Vegas, Nevada.[16] He was taken to the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada, where he died six days later.
Upon his release from Clinton Correctional Facility in 1995, Shakur immediately went back to song recording. He began a new group called Outlaw Immortalz. Shakur began recording his first album with Death Row and released the single "California Love" soon after.
On February 13, 1996, Shakur released his fourth solo album, All Eyez on Me. This double album was the first and second of his three-album commitment to Death Row Records. It sold over nine million copies.[68] The record was a general departure from the introspective subject matter of Me Against the World, being more oriented toward a thug and gangsta mentality. Shakur continued his recordings despite increasing problems at the Death Row label. Dr. Dre left his post as house producer to form his own label, Aftermath. Shakur continued to produce hundreds of tracks during his time at Death Row, most of which would be released on his posthumous albums Still I Rise, Until the End of Time, Better Dayz, Loyal to the Game and Pac's Life. He also began the process of recording an album with the Boot Camp Clik and their label Duck Down Records, both New York - based, entitled One Nation.[69]
On June 4, 1996, he and Outlawz released the diss track "Hit 'Em Up", a scathing lyrical assault on Biggie and others associated with him. In the track, Shakur claimed to have had sexual intercourse with Faith Evans, Biggie's wife at the time, and attacked Bad Boy's street credibility. Shakur was convinced that some members associated with Bad Boy had known about the '94 attack on him beforehand due to their behavior that night and what his sources told him. After the attack, Shakur immediately accused Jimmy Henchman (an associate of Bad Boy CEO Sean Combs) of orchestrating the attack, according to a 2005 interview with Henchman in Vibe magazine. After the attack, Shakur therefore aligned himself with Suge, Death Row's CEO, who was already bitter toward Combs over a 1995 incident at the Platinum Club in Atlanta, Georgia, which culminated in the death of Suge Knight's friend and bodyguard, Jake Robles; Knight was adamant in voicing his suspicions of Combs' involvement.[70]
Collaborator Buckshot claimed in 2015 that Shakur defended him against Suge Knight, who had insisted that the East Coast rapper could not come with him to Las Vegas on the grounds of the ongoing hip hop rivalry. Shakur asserted that he would not board the plane unless accompanied by Buckshot and was described by the fellow rapper as looking "discomforted" while they recorded a song together in a studio after Shakur "tore up the plane tickets".
And nas was still respectful enough to stop his show to pay respect to pac when he died
I've always thought about how Nas never really clapped back at Pac and has even been on tracks with him posthumously.

I can't be the only one when I was little who though his voice in hail mary was scary.
@@reshaudmiller9908 i adore Pac, but stop being so naive. The voice in "Hail Mary" was a studio enhanced/engineered voice. Many singers and rappers use it.
@OlaAmigo gotta love YT algorithm
Such strength and power and masculinity in that voice, something a lot of modern rappers with bright colored hair are lacking
Pac - the studio gangster. As much as I loved his vision and music but he became so egomaniac and delusional. He really thought he was untouchable and could defeat anyone yet most of them survived him and Biggie lol
I share your sentiments. I was a fan and had lots of his albums but the more footage and interviews I see, the more turned off I am. All that arrogance and loud mouthing. Picking that unnecessary beef with Biggie when Pac KNEW what Pac did to get popped at Quad City studios. The beating on Sam Snead, spitting at media reporters doing their job, being a bully and going to film set with goons to beat up the Hughes brothers, going at the whole entire East Coast disrespecting Nas, LL, Biggie, Chino XL, Mobb Deep, Fugees etc. Once i seen that interview at age 17 of tupac rocking one earring on his right ear twirling his hands like my aunt, it was a wrap for me

*It sounded like Tupac spoke with passion from the heart every time he opened his mouth. Most rapper these days couldn't even come up with half the shit that Pac laid down in this video.*
I think most rappers today choose not?
Word. I actually feel compelled to listen to what Tupac says. He just had this leadership and visionary vibe to him - not the negative type that's all around us but someone who genuinely had care for the community and wanted to better it.
He had to talk that ish when Suge bail is azz out!!!!!
LNxTCB and that's the way they like it. LNxTCB yeah. Imagine lil wayne saying what pac just said? We'd be here all year!
And NAS still around because NAS understood that the rap game was a business that did not mix with gang banging.

True
Are you trying talk about pac being dead or I don't get it? Bc eventually we all die. Don't get why you would talk about someone who is dead. Thats like me talking about your mother if she's dead. Have some respect. People die when they do. It's not by chance or coincidence.. it's not about when, why and how u die.. It's about where u go afterwards. Just worry about that on your end and not a man who died a long time ago.
@@anthonyjoshuaphillips3604 what we do here now on earth matters infinitely, just ask Marley and Pac themself. Stop writing off life as insignificant compared to heaven, you can believe in it all you want but you don't know what exists, so don't count on it. And if heaven really is eternal, then you should be considering the limited time here on earth that isn't.
There's no chance Pac was ready to leave this earth when he did.
Stop presenting this twisted narrative that it was his time to go and that he couldn't have done anything better to prevent his early demise.

Nas ain’t a weak rapper, that’s why. If Tupac had lived longer he would’ve worked to squash that beef because both are for unity in the black community
Black Wxlfdxg apparently they squashed the beef right before pac passed
I peep that too
I don’t think people understand how influential Tupac and Biggie was. To pull in this much attention from the world because of music with no social media was ridiculously hard during this time. You were lucky to even get played on the radio let alone the world hear your voice. It takes extreme talent to do something like Pac and have the whole world behind you
Media was more centralized. I believe it is harder to create a global buzz that everyone is talking about now, because everyone has different sources to hear from.
The whole world wasn’t behind him hence the reason he was killed. His bad attitude provided him a great deal of enemies and he sparked East vs West with all the nonsense he’d start.
True that
@commanderpp None of these rappers were overrated nor underrated they all had distinctive styles
The metaphorical syllabic raps of Pun was birthed by Rakim , Kool G Rap and Big Daddy Kane. These were the main architects that paved the way for new school hip hop
Big was never trash, he had one of the most eloquent wordplays, smooth flows and deliveries. He's Top 5 just like Jadakiss.
Pac's early work from 1988-1993 before Death Row's featured his most lyrical prowess. Plus the topics he talked about had notoriety such as social injustice, politics, poverty, etc. Pac was poet. So was Nas, Pac and Nas was more alike. Pac was even influenced by Nas' It Was Written before he died.
Not to mention Big L, the best emcee to come out of Harlem. If L didn't die, he would've had superstar status. Unfortunately, he was merked before reaching mass appeal.
Then you have the whole Wu tang, Guru, the list goes on.

I never understood why Nas, 2Pac, and B.I.G. connoisseurs always argue with each other. Illmatic, Me Against The World, and Ready To Die are TREMENDOUS albums. I think we should all unite and listen to these artists because not only is the music we got today bad in terms of production and content, but its terrible for the mind, and I think it's a shame and a huge loss for you if you choose to deprive yourself from listening to one of these artists because they had problems with each other 20 years ago...
Nas and Pac definitely, their social conscious content was amazing and that is missing from the game today. Biggie was an amazing rapper but his content wasn't the same as the others. He was more into the party and bullshit!
That is because most hip-hop fans that start this idiocy are arrogant, rash and close-minded stans, you can't really force people to get along with something they like to rebuttal and want conflict over from in the first place.

The guys below ARE true ROLE MODELS for our people: Astronaut-Ronald McNair, Biochemist- Marie Maynard Daly, Neurosurgeon-Dr. Ben Carson, 65th US Secretary Of State-Colin Powell, Astrophysicist-Neil Degrasse Tyson. We should aspire to be like any of these people. Rappers aren't good role models for our children. They're associated with gangs. Why would you consider that to be a good role model?

This th-cam.com/video/zvTu5OPwx7A/w-d-xo.html explains why,
I've never seen someone with as much energy and passion as Pac. As Jada said 'as soon as he spoke he was like a magnet'
Nas didn't even diss Pac, and he was a much better rapper. Okay, so I'm going to expand on my statement because a lot of people have replied. I'm not trying to make fun of Tupac, he's a great rapper, and a legend actually. I'm just trying to say that Nas didn't start the beef, and they actually ended it before Pac died. Also, Nas is a better rapper/lyricist, his rhetorical dexterity is a lot higher, that's just a fact.
Nas was a good lyricist but Pac was more engraved with his lyrics. He practiced what he preached. Nas is good no question but Pac is still untouchable till this day, he was a poet, a philosopher, an extraordinary actor. Nas was a terrible actor. In my opinion, Tupac was the superior in the rap game. He is the Jordan of rap. If you disagree, study Pac before u criticize. Nas was not better.
Walter Azzari Nas was much better than Pac lyrically, his rhetorical dexterity is way too high. Who's the better artist? That's subjective. Pac was amazing, he's a rap legend, but he is overrated. He's not even top 10 when it comes to lyrics.
To each his own.
Guhsteh I understand where your coming from but 2pac was much more deeper about how he rapped, in my opinion 2pac would of blown up way more if he was alive today and he was only at his peak before he died which is a coincidence, because alot of artists die before they reach fame. (Just Saying) R.I.P. Makaveli
Bangerz Breh 2Pac was very deep and he was an incredible artist. But me saying that Nas is a better lyricist, isn't an opinion or an insult, it's just a fact. Some people like Nas better, some people like 2Pac better, I like both of them. Not trying to hate. It just gets so annoying seeing Pac fans hating on Nas or Biggie.
If I was on Bad Boy I'd want Pac gone. Dude is talking about destroying and overthrowing a label that's feeding families. Some kids were probably going to college because of Bad Boy. Someone probably was paying for their mother's new house by working for Bad Boy. When you go around making too many enemies it usually doesn't end well.
Shut ur 🍑 down when you git shot 5 times than you can speak like this you acting like bad boy was the victims but the truth is tupac is the victim Bad boy bring this war to themselves Tupac and his people had families too not just bad boy why bad boy was acting hard and released who shot ya after Tupac got shot 5 times ? And don't tell me that fake story biggie wrote that song before tupac got shot that some Bullshit why Biggie talking a lot if sh*t about Tupac in interviews when pac was behind bars ? You acting like pac just dissed them for no reason stoo that bullshit plus biggie dissed Tupac after his death and The people who shot tuoac 5 times the first time was affiliate with bad boy
@Awoken777 Shut ur @$$ down white boy Biggie was the biggest coward in the history he was acting gangsta and dissing tupac when pac was behind bars when tupac came out BIG was quite like a church mouse 🐀
Nas is more lyrical but 2pac made you feel his music. You could tell it was coming from the heart.
Nas is not more lyrical than Tupac, read the lyrics of "everything they owe" "blasphemy" , "az the world turnz", "black jesus", or "brothaz at armz" for example...I hate blanket statements like that, do your research on Tupac's lyrics before you talk.
+Chris Booker Like I said before PAC would say some real deep shit and was best at making you feel that shit. But most of his lyrics was just not as sharp and complexed as Naz
I have NEVER heard Nas freestyle off the dome, on the contrary, Tupac could rhyme off the top, he beat biggie during an acapella freestyle and biggie rhyme was written, Tupac also would freestyle on a lot of outros to his songs with ad libs
Even the album Naz did with Damian Marley was full of raw lyrics and knowledge

Love this interview almost as good as his albums, musta watched this interview easy 15 times just to listen to his words that are so fucking great man what the fuck
This interview just illustrates the brilliance of Tupac. All the talent that man had and just some of the shadiest people that was around him. If he wasnt killed I believed he would have left his record label and created his own and go beyond the rap industry. Pac would have reach the level where Jay-Z and Dre is today just managing business contracts and nba team who knows.
ace 1 1) What I don't like your comment is you mentioned Tupac and Dre/Jayz in the same day as Tupac but I'll forgive your foolish mistake, Tupac was so good with words, best disses in rap and best heartfelt songs to this very day, will anyone ever be better than him? Don't think so.
laythan I agree with what you said. I was using the other two as todays youngsters may point to Dre, Nas or any big named artist as being great from the same era as Tupac but it was more for reference because they exist as contemporaries from his generation. Easily those other rapper careers would never reached to the point they are today if Tupac didnt leave us to soon. Not to say they didnt have albums but come on I mean look at what Tupac left us with like hundreds of unreleased material and he made an impact that was in a league of his own. I will use better music references Michael Jackson, Elvis, Bettles, Madonna, Prince, Springsteen, Tupac all of these names change and Redefined theyre respective music genres. Cant list them all
I like PAC but what did he say that was so great? That was not knowledge.
eli wol haha lol use your brain I know u can figure it out
Nas is a better rapper than Tupac could have ever been. Truth hurts.
Nope
in 96' pac was just starting to hit his stride, he was REALLY only starting to cook up! the major irony is he had accomplished most of the successes that his legacy is praised for, but again the silent truth is he was just starting to cook up at 25! he was very intelligent, brothas don't use words like "personification" in interviews so effortlessly, they be too hard ignorant or stupid to teach n express themselves nowadays, boy how times have changed.
***** lol
Christian Clarke facts!
***** true indeed, but your impulsiveness caused u to miss the POINT, young brothers in the industry for the most part, speak like illiterate uneducated ignorant human beings. those people u named are the exception, aight im done.
Christian Clarke Your right. I don't think people are taking in consideration of the facts of this time in hip-hop/Rap era. What you are actually seeing here is the product of man who taught the world what it knows about making money in hip hop at its earliest stages. This was a time when there were many black/African american ghettos segregated by culture and politics. A lot of young men of his age were arrested, selling drugs for money and not well educated due to the lack of the education in those communities. What fascinates me the most in this interview, that I don't think many are paying attention to; if you keep in perspective the facts, He WAS "cooking up ". Before him there were record labels and rappers not making as much money. He set the standard of learning real business in the art of making music. A standard that record companies took a hold of in this era to sell music. I dont care what you say about the guy, because if you strip him of music what you will be left with is man who 1) didn't want to succumb to his originated life style 2). a remarkable business man. Those 2 things and his Music will stand the test of time in my book. Even in this interview he's talking about community out reach and making money in his community to get people out of those situations. He saw a niche that no one at this time were paying real attention to. So yes, "Personification" might not seem like a big deal unless you pay attention to the facts of his situation at hand. You would find people in his city neighbor during this time that couldn't read well or didn't care to after high school. The guy was well read. And used his culture and up bring to his advantage. I think someone noticed this playing out in his favor and did not want it to happen. How else would you have a dead man who was practically untouchable at the age of 25. haha "boy how times have changed" +Christian Clarke :)
