Tupac Amaru Shakur (/ˈtuːpɑːk ʃəˈkʊər/ TOO-pahk shə-KOOR;[1] born Lesane Parish Crooks; June 16, 1971 - September 13, 1996), also known by his stage names 2Pac and briefly as Makaveli, was an American rapper, songwriter, and actor.[2] Shakur has sold over 75 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time.[3] His double disc albums All Eyez on Me and his Greatest Hits are among the best selling albums in the United States.[4] He has been listed and ranked as one of the greatest artists of all time by many magazines, including Rolling Stone which ranked him 86th on its list of The 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.[5] Consistently ranked as one of the greatest rappers ever, he was ranked number 2 by MTV in their list of The Greatest MCs of All-Time in 2006.[6] 2Pac is also ranked as the most influential rapper of all time.[7][8][9][10][11]
Shakur began his career as a roadie, backup dancer, and MC for the alternative hip hop group Digital Underground, eventually branching off as a solo artist.[12][13][14] The themes of most of Shakur's songs revolved around the violence and hardship in inner cities, racism and other social problems. Both of his parents and several other of his family were members of the Black Panther Party, whose ideals were reflected in his songs.
During the latter part of his career, Shakur was a vocal participant in the so-called East Coast-West Coast hip hop rivalry, becoming involved in conflicts with other rappers, producers and record-label staff members, most notably The Notorious B.I.G. and the label Bad Boy Records.[15]
On September 7, 1996, Shakur was shot multiple times in a drive-by shooting at the intersection of Flamingo Road and Koval Lane in Las Vegas, Nevada.[16] He was taken to the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada, where he died six days later.
Upon his release from Clinton Correctional Facility in 1995, Shakur immediately went back to song recording. He began a new group called Outlaw Immortalz. Shakur began recording his first album with Death Row and released the single "California Love" soon after.
On February 13, 1996, Shakur released his fourth solo album, All Eyez on Me. This double album was the first and second of his three-album commitment to Death Row Records. It sold over nine million copies.[68] The record was a general departure from the introspective subject matter of Me Against the World, being more oriented toward a thug and gangsta mentality. Shakur continued his recordings despite increasing problems at the Death Row label. Dr. Dre left his post as house producer to form his own label, Aftermath. Shakur continued to produce hundreds of tracks during his time at Death Row, most of which would be released on his posthumous albums Still I Rise, Until the End of Time, Better Dayz, Loyal to the Game and Pac's Life. He also began the process of recording an album with the Boot Camp Clik and their label Duck Down Records, both New York - based, entitled One Nation.[69]
On June 4, 1996, he and Outlawz released the diss track "Hit 'Em Up", a scathing lyrical assault on Biggie and others associated with him. In the track, Shakur claimed to have had sexual intercourse with Faith Evans, Biggie's wife at the time, and attacked Bad Boy's street credibility. Shakur was convinced that some members associated with Bad Boy had known about the '94 attack on him beforehand due to their behavior that night and what his sources told him. After the attack, Shakur immediately accused Jimmy Henchman (an associate of Bad Boy CEO Sean Combs) of orchestrating the attack, according to a 2005 interview with Henchman in Vibe magazine. After the attack, Shakur therefore aligned himself with Suge, Death Row's CEO, who was already bitter toward Combs over a 1995 incident at the Platinum Club in Atlanta, Georgia, which culminated in the death of Suge Knight's friend and bodyguard, Jake Robles; Knight was adamant in voicing his suspicions of Combs' involvement.[70]
Collaborator Buckshot claimed in 2015 that Shakur defended him against Suge Knight, who had insisted that the East Coast rapper could not come with him to Las Vegas on the grounds of the ongoing hip hop rivalry. Shakur asserted that he would not board the plane unless accompanied by Buckshot and was described by the fellow rapper as looking "discomforted" while they recorded a song together in a studio after Shakur "tore up the plane tickets".

Thats like me talking about your mother if she's dead. Have some respect. People die when they do. It's not by chance or coincidence.. it's not about when, why and how u die.. It's about where u go afterwards. Just worry about that on your end and not a man who died a long time ago.

@commanderpp None of these rappers were overrated nor underrated they all had distinctive styles
The metaphorical syllabic raps of Pun was birthed by Rakim , Kool G Rap and Big Daddy Kane. These were the main architects that paved the way for new school hip hop
Big was never trash, he had one of the most eloquent wordplays, smooth flows and deliveries. He's Top 5 just like Jadakiss.
Pac's early work from 1988-1993 before Death Row's featured his most lyrical prowess. Plus the topics he talked about had notoriety such as social injustice, politics, poverty, etc. Pac was poet. So was Nas, Pac and Nas was more alike. Pac was even influenced by Nas' It Was Written before he died.
Not to mention Big L, the best emcee to come out of Harlem. If L didn't die, he would've had superstar status. Unfortunately, he was merked before reaching mass appeal.
Then you have the whole Wu tang, Guru, the list goes on.

Ha nigga ??? Nas was like hell no you know I love you Pac , than 2Pac said good then cuz I got my by album coming out and I’m dissing u and everyone else from him u better not say shit when the album comes out! Nas again i ain’t got no problems with u Pac I got love for u . Now all the Outlaws confirmed this , cuz they was there and was screaming at Nas too so Pac had to calm em down . Now 2Pac is dead and u have a bitch like Snoop dog telling Stories he said this happened however he said Nas had gangsters with him and could have pushed green light but he didn’t , were outlaws and other ppl say Nas only had 5 ppl with him while pacs ppl had guns on em and Nas was scared on his turf the king of New York lol f out of here ... ONLY GOD Can judge 2Pac - ONE LOVE PAC !!!

Another thing is according to Reggie and the Outlaws Nas was deep that night. You think Nas only had 5 people in NYC lol? Nas was deep but so was Pac cause he had a lot of Jersey guys with him. Snoop always hated on Pac and only told the story to make Pac look bad but everyone who was there said Snoop is a liar and he wasn't even in the thick of it he was across the street like a scared bitch.

Pac was such a narcissist. Nas has more talent in his pinky than Pac had in his whole body. Pac talked a lot and flexed like he was some gangster, but the reality is he went to an art school with Jada in Baltimore and took ballerina classes where he had to wear tutu's. He wasn't out there banging. Far from it. Dude was a pretender. He was a fraud. He got around Suge and thought he was like that. Lol. Nas was, is, and will forever be the more talented MC. Shit, Pac isn't even top 10 imo. Pac was an entertainer, NAS is a legit artist.

Nas didn't even diss Pac, and he was a much better rapper. Okay, so I'm going to expand on my statement because a lot of people have replied. I'm not trying to make fun of Tupac, he's a great rapper, and a legend actually. I'm just trying to say that Nas didn't start the beef, and they actually ended it before Pac died. Also, Nas is a better rapper/lyricist, his rhetorical dexterity is a lot higher, that's just a fact.

    • @walterguillen4282
      @walterguillen4282 9 ปีที่แล้ว +26

Nas was a good lyricist but Pac was more engraved with his lyrics. He practiced what he preached. Nas is good no question but Pac is still untouchable till this day, he was a poet, a philosopher, an extraordinary actor. Nas was a terrible actor. In my opinion, Tupac was the superior in the rap game. He is the Jordan of rap. If you disagree, study Pac before u criticize. Nas was not better.

Walter Azzari Nas was much better than Pac lyrically, his rhetorical dexterity is way too high. Who's the better artist? That's subjective. Pac was amazing, he's a rap legend, but he is overrated. He's not even top 10 when it comes to lyrics.

laythan I agree with what you said. I was using the other two as todays youngsters may point to Dre, Nas or any big named artist as being great from the same era as Tupac but it was more for reference because they exist as contemporaries from his generation. Easily those other rapper careers would never reached to the point they are today if Tupac didnt leave us to soon. Not to say they didnt have albums but come on I mean look at what Tupac left us with like hundreds of unreleased material and he made an impact that was in a league of his own. I will use better music references Michael Jackson, Elvis, Bettles, Madonna, Prince, Springsteen, Tupac all of these names change and Redefined theyre respective music genres. Cant list them all

Christian Clarke Your right. I don't think people are taking in consideration of the facts of this time in hip-hop/Rap era. What you are actually seeing here is the product of man who taught the world what it knows about making money in hip hop at its earliest stages. This was a time when there were many black/African american ghettos segregated by culture and politics. A lot of young men of his age were arrested, selling drugs for money and not well educated due to the lack of the education in those communities. What fascinates me the most in this interview, that I don't think many are paying attention to; if you keep in perspective the facts, He WAS "cooking up ". Before him there were record labels and rappers not making as much money. He set the standard of learning real business in the art of making music. A standard that record companies took a hold of in this era to sell music. I dont care what you say about the guy, because if you strip him of music what you will be left with is man who 1) didn't want to succumb to his originated life style 2). a remarkable business man. Those 2 things and his Music will stand the test of time in my book. Even in this interview he's talking about community out reach and making money in his community to get people out of those situations. He saw a niche that no one at this time were paying real attention to. So yes, "Personification" might not seem like a big deal unless you pay attention to the facts of his situation at hand. You would find people in his city neighbor during this time that couldn't read well or didn't care to after high school. The guy was well read. And used his culture and up bring to his advantage. I think someone noticed this playing out in his favor and did not want it to happen. How else would you have a dead man who was practically untouchable at the age of 25. haha "boy how times have changed" +Christian Clarke :)
