How it works on pre-production process is the label just discussed and gave the song to the production team and maybe explain what kind of concept they are looking for. Most of these symbolism i think came from director’s side more than Simon. Also i’m art director and i see this through my art perspective you dont need to agree. That’s cool and all, but 1) it’s actually “INFRAred” not “INFERred”, 2) wolves in no way have that ability, and 3) none of those shots are from their POV, which would be how they see.
In all likelihood, there may be several things combining for why they have those shots. 1) It just looks different and cool. 2) Many times wolves are filmed in night vision (often green shaded) because they’re often semi nocturnal. 3) A common editing trick to show “non human POV” is to shift color or use some sort of infrared style. 4) One of the most famous alien series in cinema (The Predator) has their hunters use infrared POV, so while these shots are not POV, many people associate a thermal POV with alien hunters. But I’m not the director/editor, so these are just guesses. Sick shots in an amazing music video, regardless.

People should never compare XGs views with K-pop groups. K-pop does “massive” ad payola and a huge % of their MV views are inorganic. The actual verified data is out there on that. That’s how K-pop MVs always get those 100000000000000000 views. XG ranks at the top of groups with “organic” views. XG also is not backed or supported by knetz and K-pop fandoms whose literal lifestyle is 24/7 streaming culture. XGs fandom also skews older who don’t “stream 24/7” (families/careers) unlike most K-pop groups whose fandoms are much younger

The only Kpop group I listen to right now besides those two 2NE1 song is Riize. So I might actually check more about them when I have the time. I know they are not exactly Kpop but you know.
When I first saw the MV back in May, five seconds in I was right back in GRL GVNG land. And, sure enough: WOKE UP has same Director: Cho Gi-Seok; same Editor: CGS Studios & Park jisu. Which made me promise time and space for another lovely Lets-Single-Frame-An-XG-Video session. (Because GRL GVNG has some sweet one and two-frame moments, some of which I think you showed in your reaction back then.) Your analysis here drove me to finally do that tonight for WOKE UP. The details in there boggle the mind. Also, I've been watching a lot of Reaction to WOKE UP. After single-framing it tonight, I have to wonder: Do the reactors realize how much frame-dropping goes on in their re-renders? Man. If you watch only reactions chances are you miss some interesting detail. Like, single-framing, it is perfectly clear, at the end of her first verse, 00:39, HARVEY makes her kamikaze into the Edifice of the Brainless, not into some meaningless lump. (A detail I've not seen in the reactors' playbacks) And then, right after that, there's an 18-frame black and white low-angle shot of HARVEY amid aerial fireworks. She searches, does not smile. A strangely poignant liminal space. (Another moment missed all along.) I missed many of the Take-A-Bite transitions, too. Nice to finally see it all and appreciate the vision and work in it. There's some oddly annoying grain showing in the "dolly back" on COCONA at the end of her first verse. Makes me think it wasn't an original dolly-shot at all, but a noisy post push-in reversed. Or something. The noise adds nothing, so... shooting high ISO in low light? Also, at 01:22, think that loss of focus an accident? They wouldn't have AF would they? Because it looks like JURIN's right hand broke the whole focus. But then they might be setting up the focus shift on the scene for the next verse? Lot of that sort of musicality elsewhere in the process. Anyway. Thanks for the eyes and mind again. These technical perspectives satisfy.

the view counts and their talents are VERY heavily skewed against them. not gonna even talk about the group themselves, just the song itself is one of the best so far in 2024. hard beats with crazy raplines, but i guess a full hip hop rap song will never generate as many views as Pop songs in general. but thats what i like about XG, its not all about what is the most popular, they do whatever the hell they want.

People should never compare XGs views with K-pop groups. K-pop does “massive” ad payola and a huge % of their MV views are inorganic. The actual verified data is out there on that. That’s how K-pop MVs always get those 100000000000000000 views. XG ranks at the top of groups with “organic” views. XG also is not backed or supported by knetz and K-pop fandoms whose literal lifestyle is 24/7 streaming culture. XGs fandom also skews older who don’t “stream 24/7” (families/careers) unlike most K-pop groups whose fandoms are much younger

They appeared on my TH-cam reels and I looked them up and now I keep seeing videos about this MV on my feed/recommendations. The only Kpop group I listen to right now besides those two 2NE1 song is Riize. So I might actually check more about them when I have the time. I know they are not exactly Kpop but you know.

When I first saw the MV back in May, five seconds in I was right back in GRL GVNG land. And, sure enough: WOKE UP has same Director: Cho Gi-Seok; same Editor: CGS Studios & Park jisu.
Which made me promise time and space for another lovely Lets-Single-Frame-An-XG-Video session. (Because GRL GVNG has some sweet one and two-frame moments, some of which I think you showed in your reaction back then.)
Your analysis here drove me to finally do that tonight for WOKE UP. The details in there boggle the mind.
Also, I've been watching a lot of Reaction to WOKE UP. After single-framing it tonight, I have to wonder: Do the reactors realize how much frame-dropping goes on in their re-renders? Man.
If you watch only reactions chances are you miss some interesting detail.
Like, single-framing, it is perfectly clear, at the end of her first verse, 00:39, HARVEY makes her kamikaze into the Edifice of the Brainless, not into some meaningless lump. (A detail I've not seen in the reactors' playbacks) And then, right after that, there's an 18-frame black and white low-angle shot of HARVEY amid aerial fireworks. She searches, does not smile. A strangely poignant liminal space. (Another moment missed all along.)
I missed many of the Take-A-Bite transitions, too. Nice to finally see it all and appreciate the vision and work in it.
There's some oddly annoying grain showing in the "dolly back" on COCONA at the end of her first verse. Makes me think it wasn't an original dolly-shot at all, but a noisy post push-in reversed. Or something. The noise adds nothing, so... shooting high ISO in low light?
Also, at 01:22, think that loss of focus an accident? They wouldn't have AF would they? Because it looks like JURIN's right hand broke the whole focus. But then they might be setting up the focus shift on the scene for the next verse? Lot of that sort of musicality elsewhere in the process.
Anyway. Thanks for the eyes and mind again. These technical perspectives satisfy.
