Hey, thanks. I cry for joy at your videos..! You make life livable again. Simple things, everyday things, are approached with a child's eye. Like seeing, feeling, tasting things for the first time. I wrote a book on how Japanese culture is expert at noticing little things, such as you are documenting. We, in the West, tend to love all things big, which is why I'll always be the odd man out. I wish I was in Japan, especially somewhere in the countryside... It was nice to hear your talking voice for the first time and your jokes in Nihongo. Thank you for letting us eavesdrop on your learnings and on the beauty of your surroundings. We see things similarly, I think. It's just that you're documenting whereas I'm not, although I do try with poems. I never thought the cameras could convey poetry. Clearly, it can. .

When you showed the overgrown garden, I immediately wanted to help out haha. I loooove gardening so much, It's probably one of the most relaxing and rewarding thing to do. Even better when it's that overgrown from the previous owner and you get to think about the hard work they once put into it💕 Thank you again for putting out these amazing videos bitsii! I'm mesmerized by your work

Have u noticed crickets? Japan has many varieties of cricket, and in the 19th century (and before) u could buy them very cheap from a mobile vendor. People bought them for the unique chirp if each different variety... I have a late 19th century description of a neighbor of the author, who had crickets that sounded according to the weather. He said one with a very high tinkling sound made the air seem cooler in hot summer evenings, and how peaceful it was to sit quietly by his garden and hear the cricket in the background.
I've tried in vain to find crickets of this kindnin the US, but they are sold only as zoo animal food here... :(

You certainly know how to capture and tell a story from video. 🙌🙌Have you had any previous training in film making? Japan seems to be a perfect growing environment for growing. When I’m visiting my family and I see oranges growing in gardens you know it’s good. 👏well done for the latest update.

i agree to all the above. you have a very slow pase to your videos which is nice compares to the general conent on the plat form. your colors all seemed kind of faded and yellowed and vintage when you film. kinda has a 70s faded film vibe. it suits your "country life slow pace" messaging to your videos. its nice to just enjoy the mundane.

Hi Sharon! Don't worry. The peanut butter turned out just OK. You weren't missing much! If I do it again, I think I need to roast them a bit longer so the flavor is richer. Lovely mystery collaborator on the front door flower pitcher, complements the buried treasure(s) in your garden. Nice to hear your Japanese! Kudos for modulating the film sound levels; no cringing when an electric appliance or tool shows up, and instead the sound enriches the senses, as did your happy laughter at creating peanut butter from your own land!

I just found your channel and I love it! I wish I’d had the courage to live abroad as you are doing! I love the Japanese culture (mostly, just not so thrilled with how workers are treated there and their social expectations are so complicated and so easy to screw up and be offending someone when you don’t mean to.) otherwise I love their modesty, their esthetics, the way they take care of the land and the way they strive for an uncluttered lifestyle and home. I will live vicariously through your videos since at my age (60 shhhhh, don’t tell anyone) and with a bad back and arthritis from 35 years of being a nurse my love of gardening has to be scaled down from the grand schemes I used to do in my younger years to what I can manage on my own without help. I will be following your adventures from Portland Oregon. Cheers!

@@bitsii in the Philippines they are called kamote leaves. I’m in the USA but my mom is Filipina and I have memories of her harvesting these and eating them. I remember her blanching these because they are strong tasting when raw. You can eat them raw though. I remember these cooked in coconut milk too and in all sorts of things. Lots of health benefits. I think most Asian countries cook with them as a green. But it’s not often seen here in the US unless you go to an Asian grocery store. Good luck! And please vlog next harvest if you discover an amazing recipe to share!

What kinds of herbs and spices have you find not to be a match for the climate(as far as growing goes)? Planning to move back at some point in the future, maybe supplement the poor selection of chilis and fresh herbs with the help of a(hopefully present) window sill/balcony. Also, learned that I should watch these in full screen, not cinema mode, gets a bit claustrophobic with the crop otherwise. Beautiful work!

this may sound weird to have an interest in this, but what is your day to day routine in this house for both a week end (tacking projects like this?) and just work days? What is cooking in that kitchen like?
ive watched all your videos so far. Lovely painting at the front door btw. I live in an old house too, my grand mother. she didn't know or couldn't fix stuff and the house was roach infested when I moved in. i still get mice that im trying to find the entry point for and wasps in the summers. I understand your situation a lot. My house isn't as much work or as quirky, but im trying to gt the inspiration to keep working on mine.
Im still in the fixing and cleaning stages, i haven't bothered to decorate yet other then my book shelves. I inherited the house with close to 70 years of stuff in it. I still haven't been through all the furniture drawers. Kitchen is almost completely bleached/cleaned from roach infestation and all the old layers of cabinet paper have been removed and eventually ill paint it lilac. =) so thank u for exciting me to work on my home, it can take a lot of a girl. im single so all the work is on me. its nice to not be alone.

Thanks for being here! Nice to have another solo house project friend. I’ve been thinking about doing a day in the life video but I kind of binge-work on projects. I get really into something and obsess over it non stop until it’s done. In that way, every month is different. Anyway, I hope you stick around! See you at the next video. 😊

@@bitsii kinda similar but I need breaks between projects. Sometimes up to a mounth. I've been chipping away at the kitchen though. Take 4 days off from work for a mini vacation and scrub fest the cabinets or drawers. Call it a mile stone and take a break from it.

They sound and look as confused as I feel about the peanut butter😂 Is it just...peanuts? Did you add anything at all to it? Even just a bit of salt or sugar to help preserve it in the jar?

I added salt but I prefer non-sweet peanut butter. ;D
