I Lived In Nigeria As A Refugee In The 1970s. I Was Born In Zimbabwe (Rhodesia). I Can Testify To The Fact That Nigerians Took Good Care Of Us Whilst We Were In Exile. I Had A Happy Childhood In Nigeria. I Will Always Be Grateful For Nigeria Did For The Liberation Of Southern Africa. In Case Nobody Has Said It I Wish To Say THANK YOU NIGERIA For Taking Care Of My Mom My Dad And Me And My Brother And Sister. Your Country Was There For Us When We Had No Where Else To Go.

Google, how many countries has a visa free policy with Nigeria? Google again, how many countries has a visa on arrival policy with Nigeria? Why so little number has such agreements with Nigeria? Those with such agreements with Nigeria seem to be less doing countries economically. Why is that? Just ask your self why many countries has a problem with Nigerians? There must be something wrong with them! That is so obvious!

As a Black American woman, I will say that Nigerians are not the only hard-working people on the Continent. I have met Liberians, Senegalese, Ghanaians, South Sudanese, Cameroonians, and others who are highly motivated, determined, and work exceptionally hard. What I have experienced is hatefulness, rudeness, and nastiness, from too many Nigerians (especially women), who get hateful when they find out that I am Black American, and try to engage in sabotage and throwing me under the bus for non-African communities because they think my presence is a threat to them being seen as the best in Africa. It doesn't matter how I have reached out to them, or tried to connect in a healthy way. I have had Nigerian women performing Black American music, and getting a nasty attitude or even ignoring me, when they see me, as if they don't have to acknowledge a woman in her own culture. Now, Igbo women are wonderful and beautiful. They have always been kind to me. There were 2 Muslim Yoruba women, who were kind to me. I have had a few other loving, Nigerian women, from smaller groups, as well. When you enter into someone's country or cultural spacing, you acknowledge them, respect them, and see how you can build healthy alliances with them. You don't come in with arrogant, hateful, vain mentalities, and spit on the very people whose existence made it possible for you to even have opportunities to do business in that country. Truth be told, Nigerians (and others) have a horrible reputation of being disrespectful towards Black Americans, when they come to the US. Don't care about how we made it possible for them to have opportunities in the US, don't know our her/history, our national and international contributions, call us "lazy," though we work overtly hard, don't care to know about our her/history and culture, and look down on us, despite the fact that many Nigerian businesses are in Black American neighborhoods, where they thrive, and are able to send money back home to Nigeria. Coming in to "take over," an want to "erase" Black America's presence. There are exceptions to the rule, of course. But, it's time that Nigeria look at behaviors performed by Nigerians when they travel out. Many people are not "jealous" of you because of your success. It's the behavior and aura, more than anything. I'm come from a strong, successful culture, myself. I proud of being Black American. Very proud. Yet, I don't have to look down on anyone else, who isn't.

As a fellow black american woman, I say you explained it beautifully. Though I also would like to say Nigerians disrepect the blacks of every community in various countries. They are also very rude and arrogant towards british Caribbeans, Bahamians ect and of course South Africans. They have a bad reputation all over for their terrible attitudes. I personally can't stomach these insufferable people.

    1. Bringing drugs in South Africa
    2. Trafficking women and Children
    3. Corruption and Fraud
    4. Using fake money
    5. Hijacking empty buildings in South Africa and begin renting them to other Nigerians.
    6. Coming to South Africa illegally.
As South Africans we welcome everyone who comes to South Africa legally. And we do not want people who are not skilled. If you are a foreigner you must be coming here to do business and uplift us. I don't think you will be happy if we come to Nigeria to compete for jobs with you instead of giving you jobs.

1.South Africans produce drugs in south Africa.
2.They distribute to their children because their parents are also drug addicts and do not teach their children good morals
      3. Their badly trained youths go about raping children and women, they kill their victims at will without any consideration.
4 south Africans are so lazy that they become jealous and envious of any nationals who came to their country to work hard hence xenophobic mentality and attack.
      4. South Africa's home affairs and citizens are so corrupt that they started selling their ID and blaming others.
They sell drugs to their citizens and some of their ministers are very corrupt yet they stereotype other countries of being corrupt, hypocrisy, I must say.
      5. Their corrupt government sells housing estates to rich Nigeria investors and lie to their uneducated citizens that the houses were hijacked and rented to south Africans. Shallow minded and the ignoramus black South Africans will not have the intelligence to query their government instead they attack the business man. Illiteracy is indeed a disease.
      6. For your information, there are many south Africans in Nigeria doing illegal business and even the ones doing the legal business always like to evade tax until they were caught and they will start begging, they will even call their president to come to Nigeria to beg. Nigeria will never stereotype them because we understand that Criminality is an individual thing despite the fact that south Africa is the number 3 criminal hot spot in the world. Check your Google for verification.

I am sorry, you need to take emotion out of it and think.. SA is not benefiting on Illegal immigrants that don't pay tax... That does not help the SA economy. No one seems to speak of the drug dealers and sex traffickers in SA that are Nigerian? Nigeria alone did not help SA politically... and mind you, the Nigerians in SA Illegally are not prisoners of freedom, they are not here under political asylum... You cannot compare the two. SA goverment has failed it's people and foreigners as a whole by leaving these attacks for years... There is always a wave of violance and nothing is being done. My solution is simple... ILLEGALS need to be taken back home and brought back with correct papers. They need to come and pay tax and not just take take take.... Nothing wrong with foreigners, I am one myself, but there are ways of doing things. Nigerians are fighting to sell tomatoes and drugs in SA, they are not politcal prisoners so to use Mandels is stupid... COME ON!!!! TYa'll love making things bigger then they are. And please don't speak about Dubai... Firstly there are no illegals there. Every business in Dubai owned by a foreigner has a native of Dubai own the majority shares... So do your research before you speak out the side of your neck. You litrally want SA to just open it's gates and allow people who are not bettering the country in...????? WHY DON"T YOU SPEAK OF THE CRIMES, the drugs, killings Nigerians get upto? To be honest it is an emotional situation... And both sides need to be heard. No one shoudl die at the hands of nobody. South Africa fix your boarders and home affairs and clean the country of illegals. Allow people in who will better the country, who are eduacted. You can't come all the way from Nigeria to sell tomatoes or drugs here please! We want doctors, architects, lawyers... not drug dealers and sex traffickers.

if your claim is right, then it's only logical for the institutionalized government authorities to do the needful, arrest the perpetrators, and don't tag them because crime peddlers have no country. It is not up to the citizenry to engage the perpetrators. When the citizens of any country begin to take laws into there hands, it means the system is failing , the system is failing and sooner or later when the "Nigerians" are kicked out, it will be you, yourselves that will be perpetrators of these crimes. moreover if the environment is not conducive for crimes to foster, nobody will be involved in crime. The people we all saw on TV look hungry and lack the basic necessities of life. Its high time your government look seriously into the provision basic skill education where much of brain work is not needed e.g carpentry, metals works etc and provision of social welfare for her people especially fixed basic income for those that don't have a job or can't work and medical insurance; if not, this will continue and sooner or later you will realize that you have been attacking the wrong problem

Quite an old video, but I'll leave my comment none the less.
    My opinion on the matter:
South Africans are not Xenophobic, We co-exist peacefully with every nationality under the sun, South Africa is a very diverse nation, check the statistics, you can almost find every African nationality in South Africa, living and working here.
Like every other nation, South Africa is facing its own problems like Crime, Poverty, Inequality, legacies of apartheid, Corruption. Gender based violence to name a few.
I'll speak for myself, I'm open to anybody from anywhere moving to South Africa, if they are coming to uplift south africa and make it better, even better if it's a fellow African, but please be respectful of our people, laws and cultures. I'm for a United Africa. All of us working together for the upliftment of this continent.
The problem is, many of the people who have unfortunately been termed "Foreigners":
    1) are in the country illegally:
(This has a knock on effect, due to being illegal, you are prey to corrupt police officials and criminals, who know you can't go to the police because you are illegal yourself. / You are also exploited by unscrupulous employers /people who will pay you below the countries mandated minimum wage because you have no formal recourse structures.
By being illegal in the country, you live on the outskirts and fringes of mainstream society where the majority of the countries socail ills take place
(My advice, if you want to come to South Africa, please follow the necessary guidelines and get the proper documentation to be here.)
    2) have no special skills or education that differentiate them from the everyday working class South African who is also struggling to make ends meet. (South Africa has one of the world's highest youth unemployment rate) This causes conflict between the working class as you are competing for the same scarce opportunities. /This is why we have an immigration department, everybody who seeks to live/work in SA, is scrutinized and granted access based on what skills they can bring to the economy based on the countries needs to avoid such conflicts. (Like every other country, South Africa provides services to its people based off tax revenues, it has a budget for service delivery and infrastructure that it is already behind on due to tougher economic climate, now factor in hundreds of thousands if not millions of undocumented migrants who also have to share the slice of that small pie. The xenophobic attacks you see or hear about occur at the frontlines of poverty. There is a misconception that because of all the modern infrastructure people see, it means all South Africans are rich and living well, that's not the case, there is still alot of poverty in SA, it's a situation of the desperate fighting the desperate, I think the government can do more here and us as regular people can support Non profits and other Socail organistaions to bring harmony In this space .
    3) This is the one that make most people's blood boil in my view:
    Crime.
I'll direct this one to my Nigerian and Zimbabwean brothers and sisters. Why? Because for the 33 years of my existence in South Africa, I've never heard of a South African complain about a Ghanaian, Senegalese, Congolese, Malawian etc, it's always the same two nationalities. The reason for that is crime.
South Africa itself is a high crime country, and we are fighting hard to change that, so imagine the outrage from locals when people who leave their own countries to come commit serios crime here.
The majority of Nigerian and Zimbabwean nationals in South Africa are a blessing, hardworking , respectful, intelligent and enterprising people, who add to their communities. Some are great teachers lecturers, business people, Academics. (BUT ALL OF THAT IS UNDONE BY THE ACTIONS OF A FEW)
And if we are talking frankly, this is the case everywhere, I don't think there's a visa that gets declined more than the Nigerian visa. This is because a small group of mostly young men are causing havoc wherever they go, they ruin the reputation of the good people of Nigeria by being involved in Scamming/Drugs/ prostitution.
Like most Africans, South Africa is a very family orientated society, Drugs are sold to children, Prostitution of young girls as young as 13 by Nigerians, they are known for it in South Africa. The image of Nigeria in South Africa is not a good one and not enough is being done to highlight that the people doing these crimes are only a very small proportion of Nigerian society.
The question of this discussion should rather be, how does Nigeria ensure that they are being well represented by their people outside of Nigeria.
Again, South Africans are not xenophobic, we are facing new problems that we have to adapt to, violence is never the answer, and it's problems we must face together as Africans
Much love to you and yours

This might not be helpful but, I’ll say it just for clarity. When they said they’re tired of Nigerians, they didn’t mean all Nigerians, they meant the drug dealers that sells drugs to kids and disguises as shops. They must learn to be specific.
All this mess started because of a Drug dealer that shot the taxi driver who was stop him from selling drugs to school kids, and the very same police refused to arrest him. And then the taxi owners took the law into their own hands and started targeting all Nigerian drug dealers owning shops.
Now the whole thing is out of control.

YES, I AM ABOUT TO RANT.
The Xenophobia issue is being blamed on South Africa when in fact it's a failure of the AFRICAN UNION. For over 50 years its been up to like 6 African countries (Botswana , Ivory Coast, Kenya & South Africa) to carry the rest in terms of mostly ILLEGAL immigrants.
Allowing in Refugees like those from hotzones like Eastern Congo is understandable but it also speaks volumes about Africa's inability to resolve conflict and fix poor leadership.
The " come 1 come all" policy of the A.U. is a problem. The EU after the lessons of Hitler still doesnt allow just any country to join - a European country must meet certain economic and political criteria before joining.
Aside from warzone refugees & DOCUMENTED + vital skilled labour .... no country, especially one recovering from Apartheid & AIDS & also HAVING ITS OWN MASSIVE PROBLEMS, can allow illegal immigration esp by the millions. The mob violence is wrong but South Africa should take up issue with the African Union & take legal action against illegals
Why does post 1994 South Africa tip- toe around the fact that with all it's problems & shrinking economy- it's still the great power in Africa? How did SA go from owning nukes to feeling it has to carry AN ENTIRE CONTINENT?

It looks like you are misinformed about dominating, it's like they are the captains of industry who bring value, they dominate through thugish way, illegal activities, not necessary through business and adding value. Nigeria proud itself as the country with the biggest economy in Africa, why does it fail to provide for it's citizens, why do many Nigerians feel the need to make living in other countries. There are very little Kenyan immigrant in South Africa for example.

@@tanumzalendo1567 I do not advocate for any people to be beaten or have their property destroyed. But I do appeal to the Nigerians to look at themselves, and realize that there is an element in some of their countrymen which seek to exploit and cause harm to the people who host them. They pride themselves of being successful in the countries they go to, but that success comes at a huge cost to the people who host them, that cannot be right.

@@velibrown7904 It is funny how you people never have a problem with the Chinese and Indians who fuck you till it bleeds. I know they are successful in ALL African countries where they are settled in large numbers, selling you fake items including medicines. You bow for the Chinese but only ever raise sticks and cutlass against your brothers.
