Forged Carbon Fiber Skinning / Wrapping a Skull Full Face Mask

- Forged carbon fiber skinning/wrapping is neatly done in sections with forged carbon fiber fabric. Seams are invisible in the final part. TURN ON CAPTIONS FOR DETAILS THROUGHOUT THE PROCESS.

1:26 Forged carbon fiber fabric is cut according the the template taken from the part to be skinned.
2:24 Carbon fiber pieces are saturated with laminating epoxy resin, positioned on the mask and covered in peel ply.
4:09 Mask is vacuum bagged and cured with half of the pieces in place.
5:35 Remaining forged carbon fiber sections are placed and cured in a vacuum bag.
7:10 All peel ply/tape is removed and carbon fiber edge trimmed.
8:23 Additional layers of coating epoxy are applied, cured and sanded until the surface is smooth.
10:34 Mask is polished to a gloss finish.
11:54 Holes are marked and drilled for hardware/strap attachments.
13:04 Automotive wax is applied and buffed for a durable high gloss finish.
14:03 Finished forged carbon fiber skinned skull mask.

I have recently been tasked to 3D print and prep a Mandalorian helmet, turned out to be a lot more work then I originally anticipated and here you are making very tricky task like no big deal at all :) amazing job, this cardon fiber structure goes really well with this mask's theme

Try scripting with the progam ahk(auto hot key) if you use Windows, you press a key and for example moves the mouse to a position, then does a click, then to other place and so on, and everiting in milliseconds with one key, you look like the kind of person that would love that
That's how you turn a £20 Amazon mask into something much cooler looking, and safer to use too.

like at 8:10 im sanding to remove epoxy wrinkles from the bag ?
Are you going to put the breathing holes back in or does it not really matter when you play?
I'm kinda envious of your surface finishes, mine always look like someone rubbed sand all over the pieces..
It breathes well without due to the padding offset but breathing holes can be added later if necessary.

Your mask came out beautiful. Would it be any easier to use chopped carbon fiber tow instead of having to cut out a preformed mat?
Loose chopped is messier to apply resin without the backing to keep the chopped together and harder to keep a relatively consistent thickness, so personally I prefer the mat.
ever try latex mold with plaster of paris ?
I guess it's harder to use regular carbon fibre to get the perfect finish

can i use epoxy resin as first coat ? rather than epoxy gelcoat ?
