December 25th, 2021, I sat my siblings down and explained how things had been for me, and how they could see for themselves how I've fared since they began living with me. Over time, I had to let them know that the best way we could progress as a family and support each other was for each person to HONE and MONETIZE their strongest skillets. Of course, I would take responsibility as God enabled me, but they had to be working on their craft simultaneously. Thankfully, this is what is taking place, and I am no longer the only one sending money home. My siblings are attending a private university and one of them raised 90% of his acceptance fees by himself. All three of us are raising the school fees outside of our parents, because they no longer have the resources like before.

Pasteeeeeey, thanks so for sharing this revelation. I am having serious issues with my family members now. Usually, I exhausted my salary the same day it comes in, in one week max, the salary is gone. And then their expenses keeps coming. I was under this burden and it started affecting my productivity. I started to get freedom when a friend told me, “I cannot save the world and I should stop being emotionally black mailed or guilt tripped”. So I can boldly say that, the quote is valid, “All that I can do is all that I can do, and all the I can do is enough “. More grace sir

Thank you, Pastey! I really like the point about not buying what you can't afford. I have a principle that if I can't buy the item twice at that moment, then I don't have the money for it.

      Thank you.

It's nonetheless dependent on the demands!
You can't choose not to eat because you can't buy the meal twice, you may need the food like Elijah to travel far and earn more.
I like it, but I trust you're flexible with it.

    Thank you Pastey.
We must also be committed to savings/investment as much as we are committed to Tithing.
When your income comes in, the first in rank should be your Tithe (I mind less any controversy or theology about this- those who argue tithe never give, and some after benefiting the fruits of Tithing became darkened in their mind to perverse truth and mislead others; if the New Testament demands All, which I believe also, then tithing is a journey...)
Secondly, before any expenditure, savings/Investment, that should rank next.
Then, Recurrent expenditure including projects in Church comes next (I know some don't like to hear this, but yea); the only exception where this ranks above any other are that-
    a. God instructed you to...
    b. You made a commitment to God to...
And a quota for Assistance for that Month.
Once, the Money for help don exhaust, abeg, you better listen to Pastey.
    Don't ever borrow to help!
Don't liquidate to help (there are very serious/important exceptions sha, but ensure you seek serious counsel before you embark on your exceptions).
Remember, God gives seed to the sower and bread to the eater; don't ever eat your seed as bread even for the sake of generosity.
If you say No! No be say you no care, but na Big Tree you dey culture wey be say many go benefit, even the 'Noee' go come chop belleful for future.
    YOU ARE NOT EL-SHADDAI
    Don't come and die
    ABBA alone is EL-SHADDAI.
If you can't help, encourage them, pray with them, talk to God about them, check on them to get update, you could also talk to people on their behalf, but keep your financial policy Disciplined.
    Thank you.

Usually, for me, there's a percentage for everything; from airtime to data plans to offering to charity to personal development (books & courses).
I learned from the principle of tithe; If Dad asked for a portion by percentage, why not apportion the rest of my income by percentages?
So, I have a percent for transport to work and church. It means I must wake early when transport fare fits my budget. If it doesn't, I'll have to trek a bit, but nothing tampers with the percent.
It's the same for everything else; it has to fit my budget, not that my budget has to fit it.

  • @SummerUnsolicited

Learnt this from SMW, some CCI sermons, and applying things in my own life. Still have a long way to go with actually applying everything, but at least. first step - Budget. 2nd step - have a "brain reset" note that will help me when I look at it.
3rd: baby steps... 4th: if you fall off the wagon, GET BACK ON!!
    *Separate wants from needs
    * What are your triggers? (I.e. for impulse buying, or impulse giving or over-spending). Know them to avoid them.
(Things that may help •When going shopping, have a CLEAR budget •Withdraw weekly spending funds •Be clear on giving budget and stick to it (and now, be clear on WHO to give to))
    With budgeting:
    - Have a budget you replicate every month (i.e. percentage of income) then calculate the exact amount for each spending category
    - WRITE THEM DOWN
    - "Prioritize your ""wants"" and align them to your budget"
    - Your bank statement must reflect your goals •God •work/education •family •fitness
    - ALWAYS have savings
    - Strictly define emergencies
    - Do NOT increase consumption to match your income
"Each month, check what your statement is, check that you didn't overspend, check your ""carried over"" balance"
    - Plan ahead (e.g. salary comes in last week of the month. I should have written down my percentages already, and when it comes in, I need to calculate each category)
    My categories-
    - God (tithes, offerings, church rent, dues, etc)
    - Living expenses(I. bills, etc ii. food/groceries/toiletries iii. to send to family (developed over time)
    - Transportation
    - Savings (courses, car repairs, hair, laptop, flight tickets, etc)
    - Investment (👀)
    - Giving and Debts
    - Selfcare
    - Emergency fund
    - Giving/Debts
They're so many to prevent me from looking for trouble and make it easier...Still building the discipline to stick to it well. And to start investing
This video was a good reminder for me tbh.

God continues to grant you wisdom sir. A very timely discussion...I've shared with friends in my circle.
My question: It would be great to know more about the concept of emergency funds. At what point does it become a "Fear Fund"?
I have friends who consider it an expression of fear. Listening to your roller coaster story has really helped...it's an appreciation of what is at stake.

Black Tax is an expression of gratitude....I think it's important to know who is a beneficiary of black Tax.....In the African set up, it seems anyone and everyone thats related to you feels entitled to it.
We must and we will honour our parents and immediate family with our income, it's pleasurable and fulfilling but for that distant uncle that hasn't been in contact with us for more than a decade, we will have to check our budget to see if allows us to give

Thank you so much for this Pasteyy, thanks a lot sir. Concerning savings, I learnt from a book - The Richest man in Babylon, that you should save at least 10% of any of your income. To practice this even better, the moment you get an income you can lock up 10% immediately. I figured if we keep waiting to sort our expenses before saving, we might end up saving nothing at all.

Thank you for this session Pastey. Being able to distinguish between what you can afford and what you can’t is very important.
One thing I do is, if there’s something beyond my income I want to get, (say a pair of sneakers), I divide the big cost into smaller bits and save for it over a period of time. So, instead of removing such a large amount at once and going broke after😂, I just use the “little drops make an ocean” principle.
It does take you not allowing the pressure of “why don’t you have this thing now?” get to you.

Ave learned not to lend money that I can't let go. No matter how much promise the person gives you.
No matter the story, if you leave them they will find a way out.
Most times their problem is not that serious, it's just that you're that rich friend that comes to their mind first.

SO true! I learnt this as well back in secondary school when a relative advised me to most times lend books that I don't mind not getting back or not being cared for by others like I would have cause the stress with chasing people somethings ehnnn... and it translates to other valuables as well as we get older.

What if your mom is a widow, yet still earns above 300k monthly from pension but still demands heavily from you everytime. How do you handle this situation? PS, your monthly salary is not even up to 200k

Tell your mother that you're dealing with a lot of expenses, but while you feel like you'd love to take care of her, you're not there yet and would love to save some money while starting your life. She'll complain etc, but you would have set your boundaries and she has to respect it. Then every now and then buy something nice as a gift for her, or send her airtime.

    • @akinremielijah4141
      @akinremielijah4141 ปีที่แล้ว

Your mom will always be fine .
Just plan to save and invest at least 40% of your income non negotiable. You can live on the remaining 50% and decide how much you can conveniently give her which will not affect your monthly expenses.
Family demand can be draining if you don't know how to say No.
