When the Final Fantasy 7 Remake was announced nearly a decade ago, fans swelled with ideas and possibilities for what this could entail. Years later we’ve now received the second part of a trilogy of games encompassing the entirety of Final Fantasy 7 and its extended universe. The newest entry, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, ditches the linear structure of Remake for a more traditional open-world attempt.
Rebirth fits into a weird place, being an entire game built out of the middle of a different game. It’s not designed to have a complete arc or wrap a story. It attempts to build out of the concepts set out in Remake but feels like it’s going in a different direction. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s “It's not the destination, it's the journey” mantra works for better, and for worse.

@@shacknews did it in as many ways as I could possibly think of. No luck. Went ahead and finished most of the next town as well, to see if that changed anything and still nothing.

@leorion7470 yeah finally figured it out. I think it just reset itself by the time I got to around 50% through the game
I managed to fail the quest and the birds ran away. The game didn't allow me to restart, and now whenever I go to the quest location the chocobos just won't appear. The same happened with the first chocobo, but then I was able to reloaded the whole save. At this one I accidentally saved instead of loading, so now I'm stuck.
I'd restart the chapter, see if that works.
If you're still stuck I finally found how to retry!!
Go back to the location as soon as you arrive you can find on the top left of your screen (hold ∆ on the PS5) and tadaaaa you will be able to retry. Took me forever !
