As far as I know, there was no autopsy. Since she died in 1599, there were limited means to determine the true cause of death. However, her reported symptoms seem to be in line with those of eclampsia. It is reported, that the day before her death, Gabrielle was having dinner with friends, where she ate a lemon, that she noted to be bitter. That's how the rumors came about, besides the timing and the manner of her death.
Do you have any other mistress whose story you find interesting and worth looking into? Let me know 😊
Diane de Poitiers is fascinating!

Thank you. Interesting to learn about someone new. What about Fair Rosamund?
I haven’t heard about her yet, will definitely look into it, thanks ☺️
Great video 😊
I was wondering whether there is any evidence that she died of eclampsia and not from poisoning, like an autopsy or so? 🤔
