Finally a good, unbiased and sensible review. All the Indian sports news channels, as well as the official broadcasters are just criticizing a few teams, while completely overlooking some pretty big blunders by others. Also, not to mention the one-dimensional thinking that only big players can win games.

@@luckyo1479 tell that to Punjab who have consistently gotten big names at high cost and put out a sub par rest of the team and kept losing. Even Bangalore have had super star batters and average rest of the team leading to many bad seasons.

@@luckyo1479 How many big players did CSK have last season - or rather at the start of the season how many would have been considered "big players"? Most thought they had a dreadful auction after finishing 7th a few months before, but CSK basically said they'll just stack the team with allrounders so that even if 5-6 batsman don't perform they still had another 3-4 as they had Deepak Chahar batting at 10 despite having 6 bowling options.
Point is, there's different ways to get a winning team. Some have a lot of big name players, but have to sacrifice on the other players to balance the books. Other teams have very few big name players but have many all rounders to give far more flexibility and adaptability in any circumstances in a game.

One thing that this auctions tells me is the quality and confidence of the IPL in itself which puts game above name. And i cant tell you how much it means for an Indian institution to have that much belief in itself, in front of the world stage coz we are a country that dwells in colonialism inflicted self esteen issues. Thus the success of the IPL gives cricket a cultural dynamic. We are worth ourselves.

You have to be an absolute gun of a game changer to be a good oversea buy in the auction. Steve Smith never was in T20s, he kinda hung around on brand value for some time i feel. He also has lost form. Aaron Finch has lost form at a wrong time, just like Warner had gained form in the WC at the right time. Plus, india is packed with top order talent, so even harder luck there. Eion Morgan has also lost formn and honestly he has been out of form for ages. Neither of Finch or Morgan not being included in a white ball tournament is truly a shame.

I am an SRH supporter and i feel that Markram at 5 and abhishek sharma at the top gives this team good balance, the thing is that the squad is balanced in terms of responsibility , there is no one you can single out and say if this guy fails we are done or conversly if this guy does this we would do great.
Its a typical SRH team with the foreigners in the middle rather than at the top.
SRH has a nag of making good indian pacers and if they can manage to extract quality from even one of the players then we are good.

In summary, nobody had a 'great' team, not even close to last year.
The auction did well to dilute teams and force them to use local and underrated, or rather lesser rater foreign and uncapped players.
Every squad has weakpoints and it will take good captaincy and man management to win this one.
It's sad that teams like Delhi and Channai who have clearly had to balance between building a team to win this IPL, which will be played exclusively in the Pune-Mumbai circuit which seems to be quite pace biased as well as plan for their home turning pitches.
Only time will tell, this IPL has the elements to make it very slow and boring, or completely biased where a team will try and just hammer, and YOLO the bowling or completely depend on their wicket takers to shut down a game.
Either ways, I think it's gonna be good for the future of cricket in India.

I am worried about MI. They look a lot like last year’s SRH. They have great top 3 with fragile middle-order. Yes, Tim David, Brevis and Pollard are there but 18 year olds no matter how good they are don’t light it up so early. Also, Tim David did not exactly lift off for RCB. MI are gambling on 2023, with Archer, Mills and Bumrah. It’s great but you also look at the aging core of winners they have in Rohit, Pollard. Every season matters to them. Injuries can happen and you cannot plan for the future, just build a squad for win now situation if you have a champion core already. Who are on wrong side of 30.

    • @pratikp268
      @pratikp268 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Yep, they have taken punts, and quite big ones at at. But you can be certain that Brevis will not be in the playing XI. They are betting big on Tilak Varma who’s supposedly going to be occupying the No. 3 slot. In the auction as well, we saw CSK going very hard for him, and they aren’t known for being big on youngsters. SRH and I think RR also showed some considerable interest. I think he’s one player to watch out for. As per the rest, I think it’s true that they are looking at 2023 as their target and will probably be happy to make it to the playoffs this year. Whether that’s the right approach or not, only time will tell.

Putting 9Cr blunder on Tewatiya is beyond understanding and shocked that CSK wanted him for 8.75😱 with Jadeja and Moen Ali in starting 11.
LSG had few bargains like QDK but Mark Wood who barely plays a series without rest have to play at least 15 matches on trot is stuff of dreams with no backup for him.
Punjab did fairly good and Jarrod may may not know him but SRK had exceptional domestic tournaments as finisher (which is still concern for half teams) so he was obvious millionaire, just hoping they use him well this year.
Delhi got one of steal of the auction in warner but balanced it with paying Khalil 5.25 when they had Fizz, Sakariya already on table. That means they don't have any finisher at 5 and 6 also no stoinis but mitch marsh (injury concern)
Rajasthan was good but getting Padikal for 7Cr who opens when they had 3 of them was strange, also they should know trent is new ball bowler not gun death bowler Or else both will be doomed.
SRH has put bait on Pooran for such high prise but they still got Indian fast bowling Core which will be deadly under Kane's leadership but they don't have someone like Rashid or even nabi(I thought they'll get Hasaranga)
CSK are just CSK we don't know what's going on until MS takes the field but surely they won't get services of Faf (400 runs bank) and Sam Curran as floater, bold predictions they won't win until someone like Raj Hangagekar turns out to be IPL ready straight away to replace Curran.
KKR paid 8Cr for Rana's part time offspin when striker like Tripathy is one they need most in that slowish top order of Rahane, And Both Iyers hope Russell is 100%
RCB is RCB they had better squads before this but we know what happens there. Even if they had 90Cr they wouldn't have got someone to replace ABD, they had good buys apart from Few overpaid guys but who are Indian batters apart from Virat, if Maxwell has international duty (which he has) this team doesn't have middle order.

Theekshana won't play mostly. Even the owners said he is the replacement for Tahir and Tahir barely played for CSK in the last 2 seasons with the setup they had.

    Jarrod's analysis in 3 lines:
A Million for an old guy??
A Million for a middle aged guy??
A Million for a young inexperienced player??
Am a fan of your work, but that analysis was mostly salty 🤭🤭🤭

Disappointingly cynical review by Jarrod. Every team erred as per his analysis.
