I really wasn't insulting Biffa, i like his videos like Dire ones. I was just saying that Dire is one of the best at modded and we should all learn from him because he explains really well what he's doing.
One thing I KNOW that will have to be done... fully encase the frame.... so that Liquids do not come in over the sides and knock out or destroy the Wiring and such... I figure Dire already knows this.. but just want to make sure and post this so someone else that is thinking of a build like this will be aware of it
There's no wiring on this so far - Project Red logic isn't knocked off by liquids, nor are EnderIO cables. What would cause a problem is if lava and water meet and form stone on top of it. A cobblegen forming under it might be a problem as well.
Hm, I wonder if a layer of Formation Planes would allow the building of a cobblestone wall to prevent liquids from spilling out - whenever the sides of the quarry go past an opening, it gets walled up with cobblestone. I don't think so, I think a Formation Plane will drop items if it can't place them. There's talk about a card upgrade to control the place/drop behaviour but I don't think it's been done yet. A layer of Block Gates, possibly a composite cable with Block Gate and Block Update Detector would do the trick, but this is getting a bit Heath Robinson (that's British for Rube Goldberg).
Phil Hibbs Those annihilation planes look like they can gather cobble faster than it can form with lava and water + if the frame can not move at one moment, then there is another chance two seconds later. To prevent cobblegen on top of the machine Dire could just build a cube frame and annihilation frames on top as well. (I like the idea of annihilation planes all around even more "THE CUBE OF DESTRUCTION!")
Phil Hibbs could use Autonomous Activators in a square around the top to automatically put blocks in the holes they could also be refilled by the AE system.
Thank you for the episode direwolf20 This episode was well done. Dire had nearly all supplies needed on hand, the machinery building was clear on the whys and wheres and the first test run properly showed what the future of the machine is capable of. A few questions; Since over world terrain isn't flat, how would you propose full automation? If the miner heads down, an a lava source block is beside an annihilation plane(not under) would the lava damage the mining rig if it fell on the machine from above? (are there other liquids that could also ruin the rig?) Can the rig be made to run on a reverse daylight detector (only runs at night to prevent too many lighting updates. Would that even help?) About the quality of the episode, this is one that is well done. The jump cuts were well placed and the video quality was nice. The length of the video is just over his usual time allotment but that could indicate that this is a project that really interests Dire which just intrigues me more. 10/10 despite not being a complete build.
the best way would be computer controlled.. the computer can calculate how many blocks it has moved and how many blocks it should move to start the next operation *"DiggidyDig"*
I really enjoyed this episode Direwolf, you really are a genius! You single player LP series never gets old, I'm so glad I found you on the Minecraft forum a long time ago! :)
i do really enjoy the good old frame quarry system with the block breakers upgraded with AE and Funky locomotion. Its just awsome to build such complex and powerful systems :)
You know, a frame quarry that stretched from the bottom of the world to the top, was 16 tiles wide, and was filled with annihilation planes on one side would be a very overpowered world-eater, and I think Dire is trying to hold back by limiting himself to a footprint of the size the machine currently is! :D
Okay, here's an idea - running the machine at night. No idea how Minecraft calculates light, but that might help? Obviously not a permanent solution, but maybe in an eternal night age or something? Loving this build :)
This framed quarry build reminds me vanilla minecraft, when if you want to do some simple things you need to build a huge, enormous, complicated structure. Btw, Direwolf20, you are crazy man. Just build a nuclear reactor and use quarry from extra utilities.
Dire. Formation planes on the back of the thing? It will only fly one way, but then goes up and down. And it would create large boxes, as it goes down and up. Use it for the cobble that you are mining? It would place things as you move, but then the lighting wouldn't need to update!
An easy fix for the lag could be to have a set of annihilation planes facing sideways clearing a wall wider than the platform so the hole will never be completely covered so the lighting thing shouldn't be a problem anymore.
LoginDefault #GDG Yes, but nowhere near as much at one time. With it cutting off a wall wider than the hole it will be filling it with light as it goes rather than all at once which is what causes the massive lag spikes.
No need for your fix, once the machine start officially working, it's gonna create a huge hole, then the machine will never completely cover the hole, hence, no more lag spikes
Howie Au I am aware that once it gets going it won't be a problem, however the problem IS there and this is a possible solution for it. A bug with something even if it only happens once is still a bug.
After playing with this design for a bit on my creative world i have a few suggestions for you Block placers around the edge that get cobble from the system to cover up caves/lava/water etc for lighting and lag reasons computercraft controls you can grab the height of the block and dig till it is 3 or whatever and then send the machine back up to 65 and move right 64 spots etc etc very easy automation + add a terminal at the base with your button api to turn it on and off or to send it to the surface and have xyz print off there to see progress/location
I'm thinking the mining well uber miner combined with the frame motion of this and annihilation plates frontally could work pretty well. Convert everything to data and transfer back to main base.
hmm, i wonder. If you were to have some kind of block-placer that moved with the structure, and have it place cobblestone from the ME system to the top... Would it signal the hole mined + prevent light updates to avoid this lag? (make a cube of locomotion blocks, then put the placers on top with cable going to the ME controller?)
Hey Dire/anyone grabbing the world DL, I have a suggestion for the lighting issue lag spikes. Not sure if it will work, but with the current setup could there be a way to have autonomous activators place torches every so often on the way back up along the walls. I understand it would entail, quite a few activators. auto crafting torches, and crazy logic,,, all in all, it might be some help. Maybe even have a pnumaticraft drone place them after a move instead....
im guessing the lag is coused by disabling and reainitializing the ae system with each move. theres probably quite a few calculations done after each move to figure out the connections, channel count and energy usage
good idea but why go vertical? I just made horizontal frame miner with the height of 80 blocks. I guess you could add like 16 more that that if you wanted to make it 96 and it doesn't need to stop and go all the way up like dire's miner, just keeps going. Also, only one height is 96 blocks, make 16 lines and you are mining up to 1536 blocks per move, and all that with a very low energy cost. That one line of 80 blocks was using less than 250RF and moving the frame is only a few thousand RF per move.
Direwolf, you should try and make it so that when it has finished mining a chunk and it moves back to the top it should place cobblestone using the AE things that are the opposite to annihilation planes to cover the hole! Might help with the lag?
Dire, I suggest you put some autonomous activators placing blocks far above the machine each time it slides, this will make it so that the light won't update, saving you some headaches.
Dire I think it would be cool if you made the frame quarry analyze how long it is then it would move that many blocks and the quarry can be indefinitely expanded
He should have just covered the whole thing in annihilation planes and had it move in a square wave pattern. Or even better, make it a whole chunk tall, 16 chunks wide, cover the side in annihilation planes and make it over sideways.
Would it be far more cheaper (in terms of frames) to cut the ones that are doing the up and down, and have them as covers/hollow covers, around the power line? that way you don't need the letter T/letter Y shape frames.
Direwolf20 if you make this thing to do a chunk at a time and every 3 min you get to bed rock this thing will be faster then any quarry i think you have ever made
as someone, who built a lot of frame quarries back in the red power days, let me tell you: It's not only about how fast you can strip a chunk all the way down to bedrock. The thing needs to lift itself out of the hole before it can mine the next chunk... Unless Dire wants to go for some kind of borg cube. Yeah, if you add annihilation planes in all 6 directions, the thing WILL be fast... dig a hole, move a chunk to the right, dig back up, move a chunk to the right, dig back down, ...
Its Probably about 6 mins per operation. You have to mine down ~3 Mins, Go back up ~2.5 Mins and move to the next location (this could be the frst step as well) and that will take about 30 seconds or so (Best Guess).
naphackDT this comment made me thing it would be cool having a setup from bedrock to around ground level, cover the side in annihilation planes and just have it move one direction. Now that would be fast. Also slightly laggy, and probably energy intensive, would be cool as all heck though.
A couple of questions.. What happens when u hit lava or water underground?? And if a block of lava is outside the quarry area and spills onto the frames and ME system will it not burn and destroy the machine??
where can I share my idea of a working cowfarm with Direwolf20? (Twitter doesn't allow enough characters to tweet and the TH-cam comments doesn't allow picture sharing)
Hey wouldn't the lag be gone if you made a night mining age via mystcraft and put the frame quarry their the downside would be mobs but you would not have vary much light update due to the lack of sun
while the construction of frame quarries can be a bit daunting to troubleshoot, the use of annihilation panes makes it probably the fastest quarrying machine possible. faster, even than a quarryplus with efficiency 5 and dartcraft's OP time torches........maybe
isn't the obvious solution to put in in the underdark? more ores+no lighting lag. seems win-win right? also i haven't been watching much of the series, so is the place where the quarry is a mystcraft age? is mystcraft even in the pack?
Hi Dire, I got your pack, and do you know the new IC2 electric sorting machine? It doesn't work with any sort of pipes, be it buildcraft, extra utilities, or even ender item conduits. Only with directly adjacent chests. Is this a bug or is this how the machine is meant to work.
you should put them quarry blocks on the the side and on top so when it reaches bedrock it can dig underground like a tunnel bore and when it goes up it digs so you dont have to waste time by going back to surface
With a lot of wiring (Not too complicated) and a relatively large ME Controller, this would be possible, and to my knowledge neither annihilation planes, or frames take much RF to use, and even so, the coal you would get from it would probably be enough to power most of what is needed to power it
Thanks for all the answers :D Was thinking of this cube eating through terrain under the surface in all directions... Or just a big ass vertical wall of annihilation planes from bedrock to height of 100...and like 2 chunks wide. That would be awesome to watch eat the blocks :D
6-way frame bores were common back in the days of RedPower2, they were much trickier back then because there was no equivalent of the annihilation plane that you could place on all three sides of a corner block. Funky Locomotion and AE2 make a 6-way bore almost trivial in comparison.
I think we should chest this a little bit more. I also would like to know if Funky Locomotion blocks are fire proof. What would have happened if Mr DW20 had gone all the way to bedrock... Say over that big lava pool :) Who mentioned the Smiley Face! This is a chesting phase... don't go through the lava just yet! ;-)
I made a full 16x16 one, and frankly, it's not much good. 1. slow, 2. cannot deal with lava + water. It ended up with cobble and stone on the top and could no to back up. I didn't really need to make one, but hey it was fun anyway.
Love the build Dire. However, (And I'm not sure if it was pointed out or not) you neglected to click the last frame block you added to make it not pick up blocks on the way down or up. Your last moving of the machine stopped just before that block was to be below the surface. Still, I love the build.
direwolf20 Would be nice if you made a separate video showing how your frame quarry on forge craft works. Like a specific rebuild. I love the idea of this but i just find it a bit slow.
So is there any way to re-bound your Blood-magic items cause i couldn't. and i thought you were going to add one of those copy thaumcraft books so we could learn all your research??
I'm in the process of making a frame quarry that mines in all directions unfortunately only the bottom and top can be straight annihilation planes each side has to have a gap between the bottom annihilation planes and the third row up same for the top row on each side it will still work but it has to dig sideways then move up then dig sideways again then move down meaning it will take 4 times longer to move sideways then up or down P.S. if your trying to build one your self make it at least 18 wide so you have anuf room to connect every thing I had to brake the one I made because there wasn't enough room to connect everything (it was 16 by 16 by 10)
Do u think the problem with the frame moving might be related to how to moves over chunks so maybe when the slider goes over a chunk it glitches but idk
Lol I downloaded episode 60 of your lets play and the frame machine didn't work. Because all of the covers and stuff turned into endothermic pump covers xD
Hey dire big fan I was wondering is there there a way to auto eject out picks of autonomous activator I'm using it and an item dropper with tinker to make 2.4x ore process with luck and lava. I'm using this cuz in ftb there are not many ways to 3x ore process and they are either very lengthy or require cinnabar.
He's already passed over the enderchest for quarry item transport, because it's too easy and simple. I'm guessing he will go for a quantum link chamber, as he already built the matter condenser. He may have already hinted at it last episode, I'm not sure.
He is using the drives as a challenge. Just like he was using the Liquid / Energy Cell Carts instead of a Tesseract for power and a Chest Cart instead of an Ender Chest.
Wouldn't this be more effective if it was placed right above bedrock and faced north/south/west or east? so you wouldn't have to wait for it to go up and down.
Well, in the DW20 pack they changed rhe ore generation so for example, iron is found higher and ONLY higher than diamonds. So you cannot find iron at the same level as diamonds. Placing it at bedrock level without moving on the y axis would keep him from getting a lot of ores like copper ;)
Amazing build DW, love it :-)

it would still have to update the sunlight level as its a separate calculation to block light
This makes old memories from the RedPower-age (1.2.5 and 1.4.7 (and earlier) for newcomers) come back. That nostalgic feeling though.
direwolf20 at 24:00 i know its a little thing but did you get that dense diamond ore you missed or leaving it for the FQ
The frame quarry looks cool so far!
It's Dire time!
Hmm, using EnderIO for power, you could also run insulated redstone conduits for control as well.
Whenever I dig up dirt in the future I will think to myself: "VICTORY!!!"
23:55 dire you missed a bunch of diamonds they are on the left of the screen
Foolish mortal! Dire hath no need for shiny blue rocks!
Are you going to do a computer craft program?
24:00 There is diamond ore and diamond ore cluster :P
im guessing the lag is coused by disabling and reainitializing the ae system with each move. theres probably quite a few calculations done after each move to figure out the connections, channel count and energy usage

Oh how i like the frame builds :D
Are you going to put the ore processing on the quarry?
The FitnessGram multipart is a multistage multiblock that progressively gets more difficult as it continues.
Dire I think it would be cool if you made the frame quarry analyze how long it is then it would move that many blocks and the quarry can be indefinitely expanded
But don't you think that would be a cool addition to it?
Abhijeet Viswa
I think hes going to try and use the logic gates to move the quarry around, This Season he has been doing a lot of challenges.
He should have just covered the whole thing in annihilation planes and had it move in a square wave pattern.
Or even better, make it a whole chunk tall, 16 chunks wide, cover the side in annihilation planes and make it over sideways.
He is working on making it a chuck wide he needs to gather the Materials
Would it be far more cheaper (in terms of frames) to cut the ones that are doing the up and down, and have them as covers/hollow covers, around the power line? that way you don't need the letter T/letter Y shape frames.
Maybe fill in the hole as you move to avoid the light issues?
Just one layer would do.
when will the pack be updated to support your computer craft program that controls the big reactors?
you are the master of frames
It's called Blue Power because the electricity is called "Bluetricity", because Nikkolite, the electric substance, has a blue color.
Direwolf20 if you make this thing to do a chunk at a time and every 3 min you get to bed rock this thing will be faster then any quarry i think you have ever made

It's not all about speed. Wonder how much power that AE system need for one operation of mining, and compare that to other miners.
Xplorer30E yeah thats my biggest question, how much power is used per annihilation plane? do the planes use power when they aren't destroying blocks?
naphackDT this comment made me thing it would be cool having a setup from bedrock to around ground level, cover the side in annihilation planes and just have it move one direction.
Dire have you tried turning off smooth lighting?
Can you solve this lighting problem by making it to place cobblestone roof over a top of the hole?
So technically you could have just built the whole thing with the frame microblock for a sleek looking quarry right?
How nicely does ender IO play with multiparts?
didn't u set the world download this time? can u do it in one of the next episodes?
where can I share my idea of a working cowfarm with Direwolf20?

you should put them quarry blocks on the the side and on top so when it reaches bedrock it can dig underground like a tunnel bore and when it goes up it digs so you dont have to waste time by going back to surface
Is it possible to make a big ass cube with those block eating pannels on the outside? Like 16x16x16 big cube? Would it be very power hungry?
With a lot of wiring (Not too complicated) and a relatively large ME Controller, this would be possible, and to my knowledge neither annihilation planes, or frames take much RF to use, and even so, the coal you would get from it would probably be enough to power most of what is needed to power it
Judging by dire's power supply, anyway
Possible: yes.
Power hungry: yes.
Efficient: not much more than the platform, sure you can mine on the way up too then.
Thanks for all the answers :D
Was thinking of this cube eating through terrain under the surface in all directions...

I WAS WAITING SO MUCH FOR THIS! :D
I have a good feeling season 7 is gonna be at LEAST 150 episodes
As im seeing this build finish. As sone pops in my head. Im waiting for videos to pop up but. The theme from Megas XLR, funkly loco Robos edition.
dire can you add the thaumcraft drill on the the frame quarry like your server play season 5 with soaryrn can you do that or no
Even though the tool it drops is relatively useless, you should try to take on king slime.
Put a glass window on the quarry to prevent light updates.
Signalum is like sweet n' sour bronze
That stray cable was out of place for a wile.
also why not use annihilation planes on the edges?
direwolf20 Would be nice if you made a separate video showing how your frame quarry on forge craft works. Like a specific rebuild. I love the idea of this but i just find it a bit slow.
Why is there 2 maps??? 25:00
I don't see the world download for Ep50. Yes, I'm looking on the forum.
you could have another network that feeds into a me chest and then have the other one have a import bus on the chest
So is there any way to re-bound your Blood-magic items cause i couldn't. and i thought you were going to add one of those copy thaumcraft books so we could learn all your research??
I'm in the process of making a frame quarry that mines in all directions unfortunately only the bottom and top can be straight annihilation planes each side has to have a gap between the bottom annihilation planes and the third row up same for the top row on each side it will still work but it has to dig sideways then move up then dig sideways again then move down meaning it will take 4 times longer to move sideways then up or down P.S. if your trying to build one your self make it at least 18 wide so you have anuf room to connect every thing I had to brake the one I made because there wasn't enough room to connect everything (it was 16 by 16 by 10)
10:57 fdcg instead or redstone. Good Job dire
Hey dire if you still want to add mods to you pack, i think pistronics would be realy awesome to add :D
Would it not be MUCH easier with cascading subnets??
Dire you missed quite a lot of diamonds in the hole and the frame machine found 6 diamonds
GreenPower, the NEW electricity!
Imagine pulling whole world up or down with those frames and shit ton of power :D:D
you can't, there's a limit of blocks you can pull. It's not just power.
Diretime! Yay!
Why did Redpower remove frames and microblocks?
are this new letsplay mod pack in FTB launcher to be downloaded
dire the frame for the side slider and the radstone block isn't blocked off so it isn't working
What would happen if the frame quarry hits a liquid material like lava or water?
dire u dont need the drives just put a storage bus on an enderchest
That would be easier, but I think that the whole challenge here is to move 1 single item (storage disc) and transfer EVERYTHING.
He's already passed over the enderchest for quarry item transport, because it's too easy and simple. I'm guessing he will go for a quantum link chamber, as he already built the matter condenser. He may have already hinted at it last episode, I'm not sure.
That's not the point he could just as easily export to the tesseract and have it plugged into his main storage system
If you remember, he was mentioning moving the disks in the drive when full to be emptied at his base.
He is using the drives as a challenge. Just like he was using the Liquid / Energy Cell Carts instead of a Tesseract for power and a Chest Cart instead of an Ender Chest.
24:01 u missed dense diamond ;o
Wouldn't this be more effective if it was placed right above bedrock and faced north/south/west or east? so you wouldn't have to wait for it to go up and down.
Well, in the DW20 pack they changed rhe ore generation so for example, iron is found higher and ONLY higher than diamonds. So you cannot find iron at the same level as diamonds.
Placing it at bedrock level without moving on the y axis would keep him from getting a lot of ores like copper ;)
