Plus it's time to boycott tesco until they change back to cash.
Boycott Tesco and any other that goes this route
No big deal, i don't mind using card it's so much easier anyway!!
It is a big deal. Thats what people like you say all the time but you dont realise you are sleep walking into losing so much. We should at least have a choice. @@PeterPete
@rosemarywoolley8394 but you're overlooking one thing, you use THEIR money, THEIR banking system, THEIR supermarkets - none of it is YOURS!
@@PeterPete Their money???
@@PeterPete But the cash is mine once it out of the system. That's what they don't like as they find it harder to track what I'm doing with it. If you're happy with big brother watching you then there is no more I can say except more fool you.
Boycott all big corporations where possible
Yep , spend locally , keep money in your community .
@@paula7084 I would like to but they have hiked up their prices and i cant afford to do that.
It's not easy because they have such a grip, I regularly use a local greengrocer and try to buy milk sourced in Wales so that the full amount goes to the farmer, some have set up milk huts with vending machines.
I worked in supermarkets for a very long time and trust me it is next to impossible to do this, Paul is right they have a huge grip on things and do adapt to give people what they want. It is a dog eat dog bang your best friends wife type of business where smaller businesses do suffer
@@pauldurkee4764 Any start in this direction is a ball rolling and I do similar to you and it is amazing how many know what I do and are also actually looking at their food source much more.
Card payments can be tracked, cash can't. It's as simple as that
🎯👍👏👏
And there we have it
It's not so much tracking that is the issue, it's the all encompassing control that is the real problem !
I suspect the intelligence services have more to worry about than keeping track of who goes to tesco for a fry-up.
@@citizenpb they doubtless do, but with a cashless society basically being forced upon us, there's no smoke without fire - the option for total control over the whole of each individual's life is a very real possibility, but the sneaky bar stewards are taking baby steps in the eventual implementation of all encompassing control, so that people don't really notice. Very much akin to the frog in the pot of boiling water scenario.
Boycotting Tesco
BOYCOTT
Still taking cash at our branch but will stop using tesco once it changes to card only.
@@PeaceAndLove303
I stopped using Tesco yrs ago ,thankGodi woke up.
Boycotted them ages ago about their tax avoidance
@@PeaceAndLove303 Same here. 👍
Station Cafe at Horley uses cash. Any place that refuses cash, boycott.
Yes and more than just boycotting, we must patronise the places that use cash.
I live in Horley
Yes they are going to exclude certain sections of society - Especially elderly. Keep up the good fight Andy.
Boycott tescos
I'll be boycotting tesco stores if I can't use cash, they can do one.
Just spotted that U.K. notes have braille on their corners. Surely refusing cash is discrimination against blind people.
Good point.
Another nudge to the cashless society😒
IMO
"Tesco are conducting trial runs"
Next, it will be an increasing number of
smaller sized Tesco supermarkets.
Just another way of control...
Don't forget facial recognition cameras in their stores.
Well Tesco can go get stuffed!! Que length rubbish!! Just saves robbing and having to pay the extra for staff to do the cashing up!
Good point, it will also be to lower Tescos banking costs as banking cash will be more expensive
Stopped using Tesco years ago. Uber woke & overpriced 2 tier shopping.
Agree and also fed up with all these super markets that if you buy one item you pay more what are pensioners going to do with three of the same thing especially if perishable
Same here
I find Tescos expensive and the fresh food goes off quick....
Yep, same. That 2 tier pricing really pisses me off. Shows you the value that your data has to them. F**k giving them any more data than they already capture.
I find it astonishing that the club card system is legal
I’ll be boycotting Tesco if they are cashless
100%
What about the trollies? Need a quid for them still, or will it be a touch payment?
I only ate at Tesco bc it was cheap and I could pay by cash. If they stop this they will boot out half of their customer base! 🤬
Cash is King I will never pay by card in a shop!!
Until their computer infarcts and grinds to a halt.. then the question will be back to the nearest airport. Boycott Tesco.
Dont use Tesco cafes they will soon change back
If legal tender is refused, so should their ability to trade.
BS! Here we go, the move to full digital economy
I went into a local pasty shop and asked for 2 pasties. He put them in bags for me and said that will be 5 pounds, or whatever it was.
I gave him a tenner and he looked at me. We don't take cash ! Card only.
I said that's all I have with me. He said you can't have them then and took them back out the bags and put them back on the shelf.
If other people did that too think about how much they would lose in sales, and inconvenience.
Pay them cash, they cannot refuse, as its promise to pay the bearer, just put the correct amount down and walk out with your goods, there is nothing they can do at all.
Sorry you're wrong. Legally, apparently, they can refuse. I watched a legal guy talk about this.
The Tesco cafe where I work doesn't have tills, it's all done by touchscreen. No card no breakfast!
says the guy who won't accept replies.
and @CJR434 You are 100% wrong, just like you also dont accept replies to your nonesense
I quote:
"In the UK, businesses possess the right to refuse cash payments. Despite this reality, a common misconception that cash is universally considered ‘legal tender’, and therefore cannot be refused, persists.
While legal definitions vary across regions, the UK government, in response to a 2022 petition, affirmed the autonomy of businesses to choose what specific payment methods they accept.
Various shops opt for cashless transactions due to cost reductions in cash management. In some cases, this can increase efficiency and diminish risks of theft."
I don’t eat Tesco rubbish and will happily pay double for quality over quantity.
Presently illegal for them to do so.
No its not,my wife checked gov website and its not illegal to refuse cash unfortunately
@@andrewthomas2406 Really, wow that is bad. Like really bad.
@@alexpervanoglu7420 Purchasing anything is a contractual agreement. If they don't want your cash you need not want their product or service. Exercise your right and buy from someone who does want your cash
@@andrewthomas2406 Its only illegal if its a debt , Paying up front they can do what they like , I just boycott anywhere cashless
Tesco wants to be boycotted. I am fed up with the government and businesses pushing us to behave in a certain way. Andy we need to use cash because we are watching the pennies. Crazy situation.
It'll shorten the queue alright but not in the way they want.
If they won't learn the easy way then they'll have to learn the hard way.
Make it dwarfs only, that'll shorten the queue!
@@TheNewOriginals450 Add in some little people and midgets for diversity and strength.
Avoid like the plague 👋👋👋
My local asda is card only at their fuel pumps. Laugh everytime I drive past cause it's empty but the little family garage down the road is pumping. Love it 👍
Any business that won't take my cash, doesn't get my card either.
Use farmshops, independent butcher's/ small green grocers where ever possible. To heck with these corporations and their dictats.
Been doing that for years now ,farm shops are great and quality is excellent .😊
Used to be independent bakery, greengrocer and butcher in my local precinct. All gone awaiting demolition & redevelopment. Area like a ghost town now, and we won't get the missing shops back.
There is a farm shop by me and it was one of the first to go cashless. It is always packed. Most people couldn’t care less. They can’t see beyond the end of their nose. I’ve been to two cashless garden centres, not by choice I didn’t realise. I went to a store in Marlborough on Saturday that wanted a card for an ice cream. I put it back in the freezer and walked out.
You should have a choice simple
I think all wages paid by tax payer should be cash, including two tier and his cronies.
One thing I don't miss about the UK is the supermarkets. God awful places.
Let's use Asda or Morrisons instead ..boycot the canteens and the store..one month and they will get the idea😂
Asda are doing it too, they have started to implement set times for card only purchases, (no cash), its a nudge into the cashless society😕
Morrisons have vile cafes now cold dirty and anti social all miserable looking staff .get rid of them wasters .
You do know who owns Asda, right?
Asda are making all petrol stations card only my local one changed a few months ago.
@lenny500 They also only sell Halal meat make of that what you will..
I haven't shopped at Tesco's since Aldi opened a store next to them also support your local independent cafe keep the wealth local
That's than then I am shopping elsewhere from now on 100%!!
I'm 70 years old and I feel that technology has left me behind despite trying. QR codes really scare me. Cash is still legal tender, this is one way of weaning us all off cash and going to a cashless society and a means to control use even more.
Clearly you are one of those people who do not understand what "legal tender" actually means. It is not what you think it means!
I’m 71 I will not use QR codes
@@SpeccyManwell please enlighten us all then as you clearly know ??
@@SpeccyMan Half a post sunshine ! Explain yourself !
I’m relatively young and I also hate QR codes,it’s a push to a cashless and digital control system.I only shop using cash.
When were you last at a till paying your bill when the cashier says sorry your cash has been declined ?
It’s not just Tesco cafe doing this. Other big supermarkets are doing it as well.
Shop elsewhere
Look how much Tesco boss got paid.. 😊
Totally agree
Every little helps Tesco's profits !
Except this time they have not been very clever, once you lose customers
very few of them ever return.
Most towns had plenty of small cafe's to have a cuppa or meal in, a lot closed
during the lockdowns and never re-opened, now the likes of Tesco cafes are your
only option, but not if you want to pay by cash it appears.
I won’t shop anywhere where they don’t take cash and as for saying it will shorten the queueing time, that is absolute codswallop !!! 😳
Get in the Queue, make your order, get to the till, if they refuse to accept payment, tell them you don't support cash-free businesses & just walk away.
We'll see how their queues improve...
Just come back from Canada, one of the hotels we stayed in had a no cash policy….we budgeted our holiday on spending cash….no cc, so it cost us more at the hotel as we had to pay a fee on the cc transaction plus commission…..on the exchange from Sterling…won’t be going back in a hurry!
Canada is no different to Europe as it is a member of the WEF via Trudeau.
Where my friend lives there is no Tesco's etc, only a Waitrose, and an M&S, which she says is good because it means none of the Margar Street shop there, where i live there isn't any supermarkets, only a small Co-op, and the rest are all family run shops, just like it use to be, we have a butchers shop, veg shop, paper shop, bakers shop etc. never see plastic cards, people pay the old fashioned way with money, nearest supermarket is a 2 hour bus ride (buses also family run).
The Tesco cafe near me has had McDonald’s style order points installed.
I’m a technophobe and I’m sure it will alienate a lot of their older customers .
Its up to them! Find somewhere else for breakfast! Their rightful assumption is that most people will accept anything in return for convenience because most people are lazy, short of time or just plain thick. Cash Is King!
Haven’t posted on this channel for a year or two, it’s not about Cash, but I have CP/Autism and use a wheelchair and I’m finding Tesco’s hard to get around at moment, due to Trouble Getting down the isles, Hope Andy is ok, me and him didn’t always agree but he would always ask how my parents were, Andy is a top guy
Order your food then refuse to pat by card . I'm sure this will pi?? them off
The current trend is for outlets not to give receipts. Insist on your lawful receipt, especially when using a card.
Ive noticed that, thay now ask you if you want the receipt , also on the self service tills you now have to tap the receipt option on the screen , if you don't do it within a couple of seconds the option is gone!! Iike to keep them for a few weeks so i can compare prices betwwen shops &to check how much thing have gone up by.
Another part of the psyop so people switch to digital. I'm in France where a couple of years ago the government brought in the rule that we would no longer be allowed receipts (to save paper/energy FFS!!), or at least that's how it was pushed. We can still get the receipt just have to ask, although I've noticed some staff ask or just give you the receipt automatically (like before). I want the receipt as been charged the wrong price for stuff in the past!
Walk out of the store without one when the alarm goes off, where do you stand!?!
In our local Tesco, they are expanding the self-checkouts, when the last cashier goes so do I, to another shop.
Saw a newspaper article this week which said some supermarkets were reducing the number of self-checkouts and reverting back to more cashiers after customer complaints. Morrisons was one of them, but Tesco's was sticking with their current set-up.
I work in the Middle East and come home to the UK on regular visits. I avoid places that do not take cash because it can get very expensive when the Bank charges on my Debit Card cost more than the coffee I just bought!
Older people prefer to use cash.
Children have pocket money. Tesco should rethink about this.
THAT isn't going to work.
They've turned the drink vending machines at Stansted Terminal into card only and the last time I tried to use them they didn't work!
And thats not Tesco based, but an indicator how much that is going to screw things up for them!
Have you noticed that many garages have changed their tyre inflation machines to card only? I refuse to use them and decided to get a portable electric unit instead. No card required to make it operate and a miniscule amount of electricity to keep it charged.
Tesco raised their delivery charges to £5 and £5.50 during the Covid times and have never put them back down again, I shop Asda £1.50 And Iceland FREE next day.
Hate tesco , the way they bump the prices up and then put them down to the price everyone else sells them for , as long as you give them all your details , they can sell on or use
Spot on. 😂 !..they assume we are idiots!
I agree with you.
Cash payments are much faster than the folks that pay with their phones!! Now that method is a right pain in the a*se!! Queues will be longer!!! GOOD LUCK WITH THAT ONE TESCO!!!
How many people pay witn their phones?? The VAST majority of people pay by card.
If the queues are too long employ more staff.
In my opinion it should be illegal for any business to refuse to accept cash as payment
I will not use tescos haven’t used them in 10 years
The cafes in Tesco are not Tesco . I used to hold a bereavement support group each month at one in Manchester and it was nothing to do with Tesco. They just rented the space 🤔
I shop at my local Morrisons ,they have staff operated checkouts where card only is displayed and card and cash at the self service ones ...funny!.
Well done for exposing Tescos, l wont be going there.
Much as I am against the cashless society, I can understand why more retail establishments are going that way. The cost of handling cash is high, given that it has to be counted and kept secure, and then you have the problem of the cost of insurance cover for cash kept on the premises overnight. Imagine the takings of restaurant over a busy weekend and the process of getting those takings safely to the nearest bank, which leads me to the biggest difficulty...finding a bank branch near enough to take it to. Banks are closing branches at a frightening rate, while many are restricting their opening hours. When branches close, so do their ATMs. It is the very closure of bank branches that is making the cashless society a self-fulfilling prophecy. Online shopping is a major accomplice.
The day that we all use electronic payment, in the form of Central Bank Digital Currency(CBDC's), is the day we are all controlled by Government. You don't have to think about it for too long in order to realise this. We should all fight to retain cash. My local Supermarket currently has card payment only at their self-service tills, but the main checkouts take cash. If that changes, and they declare card only transactions, I'll be shopping elsewhere.
supermarkets up to their usual ploy, the benefit of the shopper, absolute crap, the profit margins of the supermarkets, watch what happens after the nearing market crash, when the cards & ATM's don't work for weeks............ payback from the punter
Bloody cheek they have!
Boycott ANY business that refuses cash.
hi there, our tesco is card only. had breakfast there, the egg wasnt cooked properly so had to take it back, its much more expensive than it used to be with the old style cafe's, cheaper to get a meal deal
Asda is doing the same, setting times for card only purchases, they'll all do it eventually😒
I work on tills in retail. Cash payments are no slower than card payments because frequently contactless payments are rejected and have to be repeated with a pin entry. The change to card payments is not about queues but is about automation and reducing staffing and costs. There will be fewer employees and less customer service interaction. Ultimately in the future you will have a sit down vending machine experience.
They are just checking us out to see if we will wear it,they are not sure otherwise it would have been the whole supermarket.
If they don't want my cash, then I will not use them.
For me at least, cash is king. Anyone or any shop that does not accept my cash will have Lost my custom. I can shop elsewhere or even go without.
I prefer using cash personally it's easier to keep an eye on what I'm spending with cash but contactless it's so easy to over spend what I don't have. I knew there was more than one reason I don't shop at Tesco
Andy, I would advise everyone who uses Tesco to formally complain to the head office via their web-site. If enough do it they will soon change their minds. The sooner everyone does this the better. Same goes for any retailer.
They have just lost my custom. We must keep cash
So what happens when you offer to pay with cash, but then they say card only, are you within your rights to say I have offered you payment, then walk out with the items ? Remember old bill will probably not give two shiny hows your fathers.
We simply walk away.
Just done the samecin a shop , went to pay in cash , only card, left the product in the counter and left.
Interesting in France where they can still use cheques.😊
those card machines are always breaking down and paying by phone takes all day bloody rediculous stopping cash payments.if thay want shorter cues stop the phone payments.
This began in Wales from February this year(I live close to a Tesco store and use the cafe quite regularly), about 6 occasions been turned away or machines have broken down waiting to be reset. An example is if the cafe had closed for the whole day would mean a loss of taking around the £1500 mark. No back up system!
Boycott them.
When the machines don't work
Ther also changing to touch screens food and drink ordering. That's going to put off a lot of customers, what about partially sighted and disabled people and non computer uses that get flustered. 🤔
Hi Andy, I retired some 14 years ago and I love the freedom of being able to spend out on a cup of tea and an eccles cake in my local Tesco cafe paying cash of course. It is very important for us oldies to get out and about to get fresh air and exercise
I do have some mobility problems but not serious enough to keep me inside!
Thanks for the advice !
People should have a choice ..
CASH OR CARD ..simple as
I have a mate with mild learning difficulties, he can't use self service or pay by card he's completely out of his depth. Is this not discriminatory?
My daughter is on the Autism spectrum and she is on quite a tight budget. She is not particularly good with mental arithmetic so she uses cash as much as possible.
She recently went on a trip to Blackpool. Had she not taken a packed lunch she wouldd have gone hungry because everywhere was card only. Surely this shouldn't be acceptable in a civilsed society?
The Tesco in my small town brought in self checkouts. There was a high number of older people who were customers. They voted with their feet. In a short number of weeks Tesco had to reinstate staff on the tills.👍
Bless them they only made over £2 billion during a so called “cost of living crisis” up from only £600 million.
Every little helps😉
I wont use the cafe if its card only, also tesco in scotland charges you for toast on the breakfast , tesco can sod off .
Same trick with the self serve tills, we don’t work there, we don’t go on the Christmas do’s. They work for us, haven’t they heard, the customer is always right!!!!!
I think it's wrong that you have to pay more if you don't have a clubcard or nectar
We're over decimal coinage, now it's time to get over debit cards
I already boycott Tesco, i don't like the 2 tier prices.
Same at Sainsbury's but at least there you can use an unregistered loyalty card.
Is this about card only at the self help tills?
Or have they messed something else up?
Stopped shopping at Tesco 4 years ago as they showed their true colours during the cough. I used to spend 600-800 per month and that amounts to a lot of loss for them over 48 months. You should all try it and imagine the impact.
Here in hastings me and my kids went for breakfast in tesco cafe, we couldn't order our food has all the paying machines went down. There was around 11 people waiting to get there payment cards bk from the machines due to it just loading for 40mins.
What happens when someone that does not have a card and can't have one because of their condition goes in? As under the Equality Act, its against the law as it discriminates against a protected characteristic.
Why is it always sunny 🌞 where you live 😊
