Because right now those people are focused on making sure Damar stays alive. I'm sure sooner or late their names will be released if they want and will interview with the media (also if they want) but the thing is, that's not why they do what they do. Saving lives is what's important to them, not being part of the media.

Fascinating analysis, though curious why minimize the role of a "fast track" vaccine that has resulted in untold health ramifications for numerous athletes, pilots, and mi!itary members across Europe and the US. Several soccer players in Europe, for example, in peak physical condition have mysteriously collapsed on the field after recently taken the "jab." Coincidence or possible deep connection, the subject must be considered center stage. If for some reason, the Medical "authorities" say the fast tracked vaccine question can't be considered, then the public needs to know why Orwellian medical boards can limit discussion in their proclamations from National Boards. Aristotelian logic and lack of 10 years studies and research on the vaccines ramifications must call into question seeming Orwellian efforts on national boards to restrict debate. Sunlight, as Supreme Court Justice Brandeis observed, is the "best disinfectant." Ty, for your inspired efforts to educate the public on this important topic. New US subscriber.

My daughter had a cardiac arrest during her PE class at school in 7th grade (4 years ago now). Not caused by a hard hit, but a not yet detected heart condition called Long QT Syndrome. Like Hamlin, she had a wrong event happen at the right place. Her school had an AED on site, teachers who immediately performed CPR and knew what to do. EMT got there within minutes also. She was estimated to be down about 6 minutes. She never had to be sedated at the hospital but her recovery was slow. Her 'wakeup' was terrifying. She looked like she was having seizures. Her short term memory and fine motor skills for days/weeks afterwards were not right. Every 2 minutes we had to remind her what day it was and where she was. She couldn't pick up a pencil without dropping it. Doctors explained that the minute the brain is deprived of oxygen, the brain cells begin to die. So effectively, she had brain damage, but luckily she was young and healthy and her cells ultimately recovered. She went on to continue to play sports after having an ICD put in her chest.. I hope the length of time Hamlin was down was not too long and he can make a full recovery, but I expect it will take some time. Prayers for him!

1973 I was 15 year old playing ice hockey. I took a hard puck/slap shot to the chest (identical to Chris Pronger NHL player incident).
I felt a sting and took a couple strides toward the team bench and collapsed.
Fortunately the opposing team coach was a medical doctor and a players father was trained in CPR. They immediately started working on me and saved my life. In those days the survival rate as 10%.
Remarkably yesterday I was contacted by the coach/doctor who is 93 years old. He recalls exact details of the incident as I do.
The right man, in the right place, at the right time for me and my family.

apparently, therapeutic hypothermia -- i.e. dramatically reducing the body's temperature -- was part of Damar's early treatment at the hospital. Dr. Brian, any chance you could do a video explaining this form of treatment for cardiac arrest?

Seems pretty simple. Chilling the body slows the metabolic rate and therefore reduces the demand for oxygen in the brain. Which means that you don’t need a fully developed heartbeat to supply enough blood.

I believe they also did that in the Milwaukee Protocol case when a 15 year old girl got bit by a bat and her parents brushed it off until she was symptomatic. Great description. I’m a Firefighter/Paramedic and was watching it at work, with my coworkers. My immediate reaction was that the hit to the chest put him in to v-fib, secondary to commotio cordis. Like you said, it’s rare to have happen. It’s even rarer to see it live in front of you. This incident reminds me a lot of what happened to Danish player Christian Eriksen at the Euros about a year and a half ago. He too collapsed suddenly from a cardiac arrest while Denmark was playing against Finland. This kind of thing has happened many times in football/soccer, actually. At least enough times to be scary (though even having it happen once is pretty freakin' scary). In those instances, it's mainly caused by another extremely rare condition where the kind of just general intense physical exertion (as opposed to something specific like a tackle) that athletes typically put themselves through during a game causes a sufferer of said condition to have a cardiac arrest. For all I know, that could've also been another underlying condition to Hamlin's situation here, but, as Dr. Sutterer laid out in this video, the hit that Hamlin received in that point in time, specifically, was very likely the most significant factor in this case. The only thing I know for sure is that I hope that Hamlin can make a speedy recovery and, if he so chooses, be able to continue his dream of playing football like Eriksen eventually was able to do because it would be such a shame for a career or, even worse, a life to be cut short due to a freak incident like this.
