You don’t have to float your fish. We just do it to minimize risk of sharks coming to grab it on a stringer/fish bag attached to yourself. If you want to carry your fish with you I would recommend putting them on a stringer but not attaching them to yourself. Hold stringer in one hand and gun in the other. Drop stringer when you need to take a shot and let it lay on the sand or reef. If a shark goes to take a bite out the fish hanging off your hip and hits your main artery on your waistline you will bleed out quick. Not carrying a stringer also reduces weight/drag in the water. If you’re not shooting real big fish it’s not a big deal, but we’re usually shooting pretty good sized grouper here in the 15-20 pound range. Couple of those on you while trying to swim into the current along a reef will slow ya down and cause you to burn air quicker.
@@carsongeib thanks very much for the advice, placing the stringer on the ground when needed to sounds like a good idea. Hopefully I'll be able to catch something good for the fam. I wont be aiming for anything too big anyway, not experienced enough, have only dived for crays here (WA aus).
