Nice video Rich! You forgot to mention the radio bezel may have an airbag wire plugged into it. DO NOT turn the key ON with this unplugged! Also the car did not have HVAC controls, and I believe those overlap the radio at the bottom so 2 more 7mm bolts will need to be removed.
I'd like to know that as well and also how he removed the AC control unit without removing the surrounding radio/AC trim panel because I can see a bolt on each end where the AC unit attaches to. I'm thinking that it may have been removed before.
they never sold well bc they were over priced and not alot of 5sp stick shifts I love my 06 colbolt 2dr coupe 5sp stick shift bc I bought it used and not at a dealership
Thanks man! I appreciate it, just bout an 07 and looking to replace the radio, the seller says the radio drains the battery. Had to take out the fuse, brand new battery. U ever come across this problem?
How did you remove the bottlom part of the radio? I wanted to know that specifically but when video started that part was already out, can you help? I belive is the AC controls
This probably way past its usefulness time, but it's just 2 more 7mm bolts. You need to do everything in this video except remove the radio. Unscrew the 2 bolts mentioned above, then unplug the connections.
I'm looking into getting a cobalt 07 same brand. Dors the stock radio have a remote control wire or something I can use to put a subwoofer in? Or do I have to buy an aftermarket radio? Thanks in advance..
+ryan vapes Aftermarket is the way to go if you want to add more features or customization. However it is not necessary to get a new stereo if you want to add a subwoofer. You can buy a Line Out Converter which you splice into your rear speaker wires that gives you an RCA hookup for the amp then you just splice or tap a remote wire into an accessory(something that only has power when the car is on or running.
Hey mate i have a 2007chevy cobalt ss 2dr coupe i plan on installing a AVH 2700BT POINEER 2DIN RADIO AFTER READING THE MANUAL IT SAID IF THE RADIO ISNT A SINGLE DIN I WILL LOOSE ALL MY DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER AND SINCE MY CaR HAS THE PIONEER STOCK FACTORY AUDIO IN IT IT ALso STATES I NEED A CERTAIN PIONEER HARNESS TO EVEN MAKE THE RADIO COME ON OR WORK CAN YOU GIVE ME ANY ADVICE and what mounting bracket and what all harnessws will i need to have a successful install AND THE OTHER QUESTION IS DO YOU KNOW IF THE BACK DECK WITCH IS LOCATED RIGHT BEHIND THE BACK SEAT HEAD REST CAN I REMOVE THAT TO FIT A SUBWOOFER BOX IN THERE OR DOES THAT NOT COME OFF THANKS SO MUCH
jackson jones driver info center I believe is just the little screen with the different info, the mileage should work, disconnect factory hu and see before installing aftermarket. The pioneer amp as with any factory amp will need special adapters for them to work with aftermarket but yes, the aftermarket radio should turn on by itself. A lot of stock amps don't just turn on with the car, they comm. With the radio so they know it isn't just any signal, its a security thing manufacturers like to do to annoy people, that's why certain electronic adapters are needed for an aFTERmarket HU to work with stock amp
I havent done car audio stuff since high school. While buying a replacement pioneer head unit I had the guy at best buy tell me that the cars from 2007-up don't have the 5v red lin on the stock wiring in the dash. But I clearly see a red line that I would only prsume to be the 5v in. He was trying to sell me a $120 special "CHEVY" harness for it. I know that retailers like best buy have little tricks to get you to spend more money. We always had to fix problems the they caused. Any way, Is that true?
+MaxinMaytrix they have a regular harness that has an ignition wire that hangs off seperately so that you can wire it into an Accessory via splice or fuse tap. I did mine (on a Chevy Cavalier) via fuse tap onto my wiper fuse, since it is only hot when the car is in ACC or ON.
Hi. I have a 2010 cobalt and I want to replace my stereo and put a new one from a 2007 cobalt in (same exact stereo). Am I able to do this on my own or will I mess up the computer because of harness issues? this is what I'm being told
For anybody wondering about what Christina asked. No, everything will work just fine. Your car will run without issue. They're not like the old anti-theft units. But you will lose door chimes and turn signal sounds. They will work fine, but not longer make the audible click. You can buy a $100 PAC adapter to retain those features though. But most don't bother with buying it.
Hey I removed a radio just like you did, the MP3 part of the radio was no good jumps all the time, so now I have a new radio the dealer says yeah this radio will work, BUT !! they want $185.95 to program it, umm yeah there's gotta be someone that knows how to get past GM's ripoff program. And DIY yourself, so did you program the new radio for the car you were putting it in...?
richpin06a so if I were to remove the battery from my friend's car when working on his amp tomorrow, I may need a code to get the radio to turn back on? Never, no way. I'll just disconnect the amp input terminal from the battery connecter and leave the cars power connected
i have a pontiac g5, im from mexico, g5 have something like a xm module with an ipod hook up (it looks like ethernet to ipod/ iphone 4) can i make it to usb??? thanks a lot
Hey this is off topic, but does anyone know if I can child lock my windows in my 2007 cobalt ss. My dog has figured out how it works and presses it on her own now. I havent been able to find the answer or way yet
richpin06a yes nothing can work without a ground. Disconnecting the ground also disables the air bags from triggering from sudden power when reconnecting the battery terminals, if you disconnect power some things can fry from power surge once the positive terminal is reconnected
I used this video to remove the panels to replace my ac control unit, saved me hundreds. Thank you for posting this! :)
The simplicity of working on an older vehicle, compared to today's units.
Thanks man, I appreciate knowing where those clips were. Kept me from tearing stuff up! All the best!
I just bought a Cobalt and thinking of changing the radio. This looks pretty easy.
💯 boss. I just hot swapped that radio in less than 20 minutes. THANK YOU
On the Cobalt you do not have to worry about the HVAC controls as they do not overlap the radio.
THANK YOU for not handholding the camera!
I try to make it as steady a shot as i can.
Awsome video saved me over $250 replacing my radio
Thanks for the video honestly havin alot of car problems and so far this the only video i found with my specific yr

why did you not include the heater control removal
I'd like to know that as well and also how he removed the AC control unit without removing the surrounding radio/AC trim panel because I can see a bolt on each end where the AC unit attaches to. I'm thinking that it may have been removed before.
This video was amazing the only trouble I had was finding a 7mm socket😂😂
What is the tool called that you are using to take the panels off? I have a hard time getting most of mine off and that looks super useful.
It is a panel remover they even have plastic ones for not marring the surface of the panels.
richpin06a Thank you for your reply and this video. You're a car saver!
Were can u get that tool at
By taking one look at the cobalt you can tell why they never sold well.
they never sold well bc they were over priced and not alot of 5sp stick shifts I love my 06 colbolt 2dr coupe 5sp stick shift bc I bought it used and not at a dealership
@@jamiedeatherage3757 there really good cars I have a 08 .

I hear the New York in this man 💯
Hi, what do you do if soemthing is stuck inside the audio jack? Do you still have to remove the whole unit?
Thanks man! I appreciate it, just bout an 07 and looking to replace the radio, the seller says the radio drains the battery. Had to take out the fuse, brand new battery. U ever come across this problem?
Have this problem, wondering if just removing the radio will do the trick?
Thank you so much! Appreciate it! Worked like a charm!!
Thank you ima make a boom box out of the old radio as for some reason gm cars have great reception
does it go the same is I want to remove the steering wheel/ audio controls? I thinks you can just pop them off but I'm not sure..
It looks easy to do. All you need is a panel?
How did you remove the bottlom part of the radio? I wanted to know that specifically but when video started that part was already out, can you help?
I belive is the AC controls
This probably way past its usefulness time, but it's just 2 more 7mm bolts. You need to do everything in this video except remove the radio. Unscrew the 2 bolts mentioned above, then unplug the connections.

jackson jones the driver info center is most likely just the passenger air bag and seat belt warning light maybe
..very nice and clear! Thank you.

not at all
Excuse, why would you want to to that?

Tim D Stevens Some radio have a security code that has to be put in to make the radio work after removing it.
+richpin06a how do i get that code and how do i proceed???
+Julien Duteau Maybe this link will help www.wikihow.com/Unlock-Your-Locked-GM-Theftlock-Radio

Is it possible to put a 2007 radio into a 2006??

Lindsey T no. Unless there's a window lock button on the driver control panel or you know how to work with relays and wiring.
Thanks. Great help
You're welcome!
Good job richie sxelent
You should not be using a metal pry tool, you'll mar the plastic. Always use nylon removal tool on plastic.
That radio is like the one in my 2006 Saturn Ion.
Great explication man, thank u so much! Greeting from México!
Thank you!!
Obviously this is a pick a part junk yard.. Which yard is it if you don't mind?

Negative battery what?
If i forgot to mention it it is always the negative battery cable from the battery when working on electronic components.
richpin06a yes nothing can work without a ground. Disconnecting the ground also disables the air bags from triggering from sudden power when reconnecting the battery terminals, if you disconnect power some things can fry from power surge once the positive terminal is reconnected
