    Hi! I absolutely love your website! Chessboard design and feel are perfect. But there are few things that keep bugging me: 1)check animation makes king to disappear …. It’s pretty confusing and not convenient to play. 2) animation for moved peace: previous location marker and moved peace marker are not obvious. Besides that all is great. Looking forward to keep playing on your site!

    Nicely presented but really low volume. Please increase the volume for future recordings :)

    At 4.29, the threat of mate in one….surely the advisor takes the chariot and if chariot recaptures advisor then general takes chariot….what am I missing for the mate in one?

  • @NL-tq1yr
    @NL-tq1yr 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Also at 4:26 shouldn't it be mate in 2 not 1? Because the advisor can take the chariot

      @@xichess632 I don't get it. Wouldn't the king be able to capture the second chariot?

    • @neildtt
      @neildtt 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@BruceRicard I think the threat is knight check first followed by chariot up after knight takes knight (advisor would be pinned to king then)

    I can't find anywhere that will explain what those spaces are with the arrows pointing at them. There seem to be 10 in total. Do they have some special properties?

    • @hezhenbang

      They just mark where the pawns and cannons are positioned initially.

    Which websites do you recommend for Xiangqi (puzzles, learning, playing)?

    • @bernmr1
      @bernmr1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      xichess .com, and xiangqi .com

      Very good analysis thanks. The Chinese game is ugly due to huge constraints on movement. I really love the Canon idea though.

    • @mathsLaw
      @mathsLaw 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @18 Nicholas 李卓銘 I would like to see a more unconstrained version though which would have a lot more lines to calculate. Again the idea of Cannon is huyyyyyyyyyyge !!!

      That exists already, it calls “chess”, but it doesn't have a cannon.

    It just doesn't look natural when you are using international chess pieces to play Chinese chess

    • @DieFlabbergast
      @DieFlabbergast 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I've taught plenty of people to play both shogi and xiangqi despite their complete lack of knowledge of Chinese characters. Nobody had any problem. Even if you allow for the differences in characters of SOME of the pieces on the two sides, to play xiangqi you still only have to recognise nine different characters. Sheesh! If you're not willing to put in that minimal amount of effort, just go and play Western chess instead!

    • @lukeskywalker691
      @lukeskywalker691 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DieFlabbergast No, I play Chinese chess mostly, and I just think it is a bit not authentic to play not using Chinese characters but Western pieces instead

      Wow gatekeepers apparently exist in every game!!! These are the ones for chinese chess. Keeps new players away good job 👍.
      Why would I learn 9 chinese characters that all look the same to a beginner when I can just use pieces that I already know???

    • @AthanasiosJapan
      @AthanasiosJapan 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It doesn't look natural, but it is more accessible to people who can't read Chinese.
      Some chess players may want to check about the gameplay of Xiangqi, before they invest their time in learning the Chinese characters.
      For this reason, I think that this is a great introductory video.

      @@dark6.6E-34 Those gatekeepers just don't get it. Get the newbies through the gate first - once they've built up the interest it is only a matter of time before they actively go and learn the characters! Being snobbish about the characters simply turn away new players and impede exposure to the game.
