Given the K3's are now 8 years old do you think they have likely fallen behind newer releases like the Pirelli Diablo Rosso 4 Corsas etc? Or still a good fast road and track day tyre?
They are still the benchmark I reckon, we continue to use them at the Superbike school and all the coaches love them. They are still the fastest warming tyre I've ridden on I believe.
@@TheBikeStig awesome thanks. Do you think they'd offer more feel and grip on the road as well? Or less due to inability to maintain optimum temp than a lesser tyre (eg. M9RR). I'm thinking late Spring/Summer riding in the hills nearly exclusively.
@@domd2304 I know one thing about the metzelers ... they don't just let go, there is definitely an easing into slip, so on the basis of that I do like the feel they give me. Personally, unless I am really pushing it (i.e. on track), I ride on the M9RRs which is what I have fitted to my RR for range riding. Definitely cannot give it as much throttle on the edge as a race tyre, or trail brake as hard, but for range riding I have zero issues keeping up on M9RRs with everyone who rides up here where I do even if they have race tyres on. Shit, I went off on a tangent 🙂
@@TheBikeStig thanks again, yes I agree that M9RRs or S22s or similar are plenty for the street. Its just that I still won't have my dedicated track bike ready to go before I do another track day so will do one more with my pride and joy and wanted a tyre that gives me confidence to push a bit harder but give me plenty of margin, but will be using those tyres over the summer in the hills and don't want to compromise grip there either (happy to sacrifice treadwear). So wanted to ensure I don't actually have less on-road grip with the Racetech RR K3's on the road
@@TheBikeStig I was riding the M9RRs last week at PI, definitely not getting the drive out of corners others were getting, but they're super forgiving, letting me spin up the rear up into the hayshed, and out of 11 without feeling like they will let go quickly. If I don't go straight to slicks, I might have to give these a try next time out.
I can only tell you what I run, you do need to work out what best suits your riding style, bike and tyres etc. On the track on Racetecs I run 29psi Hot for the rear, 35psi Hot for the front. On the road, I have been riding my M9RRs at 32psi cold for the rear, and 34psi cold for the front. Like I said, you have to work out what is best for you and your riding mate. Hope that helps
Depends on the the compound. K1’s you have to. K2 and K3 is not necessary but recommended for K2. You can get away with not running warmers. Just need a couple warm-up laps.

Do you run these tyres with warmers?
No mate, during the school days we ride most of the day so no time, we do 2 laps usually before the 1st coaching sessions and then work up to speed.
