Field dodder parasitizing on Japanese clover.
Field dodder is yellow in color because it lacks chlorophyll.
There are white, hair-like scales inside the flower.
Parasitic roots.
Galls have formed here and there.
I cracked open the gall.
Larva of Smicronyx madaranus.
The inside of the gall has turned green.
Chloroplasts develop inside and perform photosynthesis.
Larvae feed on starch produced through photosynthesis.
Adult of Smicronyx madaranus.
Body length is about 2 mm.
Parasitic wasp targeting weevil galls.
I learned again that the ecosystem is not just a thing.
