man running multiple EQs and reworking my compression really helped me get the sound i was going for. bravo on the video you had a simple but perfect explanation for everything
Thanks man. Went back and did this and finally got the Bass sound I've been looking for. I've learned more from your channel in the last year than I have from watching other channels for the 10 plus years. Best Music Production Channel out there. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Kristian Kohle got me into the Mammoth bass amp sim. Only need one track, the plugin control's both bottom and distortion/ clank sound. It's the best Bass amp sim out there for metal...
It to me this makes so much more sense than splitting the high and the low end and forgetting about the mid range the baby that’s needed to make the bass audible on low end system.
If only this came out last night, I was struggling trying to get a decent bass tone for something I'm working on haha. I finally got "something" but, at least the project isnt actually finished yet. It's not too late! Here's a "like". Will be back later!
Cool video man! There's something weird in the editing of the video though. Around 2:50 you are talking about the EQ and suddenly there's a cut and you are suddenly showing your compressor settings. Just let you know. Keep up the good work with his awesome content man.
Yup you're right, I somehow screwed up the edit when I exported the video. The compressor was next in my chain after the EQ so luckily no info was lost. Thanks for watching!
Awesome idea to provide the whole project to the viewers. It’s always the best way to learn anything if you can play around with it for yourself. Hope you do more like that in the future! Different question: double tracked rhythm guitars. Do you always pan them hard left/right or what is your usual approach here? I’m currently working on a project that has a certain TomMorello‘ish vibe to it. And I feel like it sounds a lot more „in your face“ with the guitar tracks being more centred.
I always pan my rhythm guitars hard L and R. As a matter of fact, most of my tracks are either hard left, right or center. I'm a huge fan of the LCR style of mixing.
@@FrightboxRecording I've finally found the time the past weekend to fool around with the template - and boy, was that a lot of fun! I think I've spent two hours with it, just playing around and getting a feel for what each component adds to the final sound. Combined with the template files, I'd say that this video has made it to my top 3 mixing-related clips this year. Easily. Have you considered doing this more often in the future? The project files don't need to be more complex than this one but imo, but having them in addition to the video boosts the whole experience and learning effect to a whole new level. Or maybe starting a Patreon thing and having the templates accessible there? Just a thought. Anyways, keep up with what you're doing. You're definitely going in the right direction! :)
This is great. My Bass sounds that much better now! I hear some improvment in performance but i get to that when i put on new strings... Anyway, thanks a lot!
I want to add, it seems obvious to anyone who's been in this game for a minute, but this works as long as you have fresh bass strings. if you use strings that were used on Napoleon's ship, getting this result will be next to impossible.

Yes, yes, and frickin' yes.
Bass within the mix is such a challenge - and I want to hear it, not bury it. Nice work.
Hell yeah I agree!

Frightbox Academy is what this channel should be called! great content of great value!

So stoked to hear that, Jerry!

Also didn't know there is a amp/cab modeler in the stock reaper plugins !
There are two; the other's a dual modeler. Though I haven't yet found granular enough control over the mix of the two amps.
It to me this makes so much more sense than splitting the high and the low end and forgetting about the mid range the baby that’s needed to make the bass audible on low end system.
I agree!
cool... I didnt know that the Reaper stock plugins included an ampsim... i must try it out for guitar AND BASS...thanks
It's great for that midrange bass grind.
I kept having to rewind and rewatch because I was distracted by your fabulous hair.
Nice. So glad I found this. Such an underrated channel

Thanks for providing the template for free. Great tone btw
Nice clear order. Effective. Thanks man 🤘💀🤘
Thanks for watching, Jorrick!
Folders vs creating buss with send/receive...is there a major difference??

Perfect timing my bro. My bass sounds boxy
Killer riff, buddy
If you use something like the Neural DSP Parallax, do you still need the compressor and limiter?
Great video Bobby! Reaper is a mystery to me for now, but everything sounds super great!
Thanks man!

I have to check this limiter, I've been using Reaper for a couple of years, but always used Waves or Izotope, this limiter sounds very nice !
Yeah man, for free...you can't go wrong.
great! I will test this!!!
Bobby, can you show procession of drums on stock plug-ins? ;))
Thanks Bro. I struggle with getting a good Bass sound.
My pleasure, Jerry!
Thanks a lot for these very high quality videos. I am learning a lot from them! :)
You rock man thanks I really appreciate all this free content!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Noice!!!!! I did something right on my own volition!
Dude this is brilliant. Thanks, man!
Seems ridiculous at first with all the plugins, but the proof is in the pudding. Sounded killer in that mix.

Hi there,
When you recorded the bass guitar, did you "Arm" the 2nd, 3rd or 4th track? Or did you Arm all three?
Sub, Amp or Disto, or all three
Thanks man! You explained it so well. If I use a bass VST (modo bass 2 specifically), does it count as DI or amplified signal?
If you're recording straight into your interface, you're recording a DI.
anyway i can bass boost an downloaded beat?
Great video! More Reaper videos please!!
Do you arm record each track separately or all together ?
Amazing tutorial! Thanks for that you legend.
I was today years old when I found out reaper has built in amp sims!
Another question. Do you do any EQ cuts on drum overheads?
Yes...I heavily filter everything below 500-700HZ. My goal is to have as little drums in my overheads and as much of the cymbals as possible.
@@FrightboxRecording thank you
it would be nice to see and hear your mix with ez drummer metal machine in reaper ???? 😁
You're badass! Thanks.
I don’t recognize that Limiter...is it Reaper stock or a free plugin?
It's the stock limiter in Reaper. Search for "limiter" in your plugins list. All plugins in this vid are stock Reaper plugins.
Thanks Man! Great!
thanks!
I've been using reaper for almost 2 years and didn't realized it had an ampsim
can you send me your other reaper templates
Sent!
What's bass amp plugin your usingcalled?
It's the stock amp sim within Reaper.
Ahh yes what a sound
Gotta have dat clank!
I wanted to hit like but there are 666 likes and that's metal AF so I can't 😂
😂
can you send me your other reaper templates.
