It would be great to add 'Build Quality' to your score system. It has been a sticking point with Tesla over the years (tho they are getting better), and with so many new EV brands coming out, I think it would be worthy of being given a score.

And would it be worth each of your scores being out of 10, as you were rating some of the items I was thinking it should be 3.5 or 4.5 so perhaps a 10 point scale would be useful for future comparisons, rather than everything getting a 4 or 5.

I think your score card is flawed. A trip back to the drawing board and consider marking out of 10. While you were presenting various categories i was trying to give a score myself as I'm sure that everyone would be doing. You were pointing out various oddities and things you didn't like and the give it a 4. What!!!!! A 4 out of 5 is ridiculous for something you didn't care for tells me that either your score card is flawed or the wine and dine got to you more than you think and basically paid for a favourable comment. But the biggest shock of all is how you gave it a 5 out 5 when you didn't give any category a 5. I don't know what qualifications you have or claim to have but you are very easily influenced with every day expectations. I think I'll be be checking out others for their critiques.

I’ve been following the EV6 for a while now as have many folks (in the US); Kia dealers here know that it’s eagerly anticipated so get ready for the $5-10K “market adjustment” to MSRP. Similar to their Telluride, it’ll be priced by demand bringing the OTD price near the Model Y.

Ben, KIA is not trying to be a luxury brand, and it is not competing with the likes of BMW, etc. However, it is making some vehicles that blur the line a little, like the Telluride.

KIa won't be the "ICE" market for that long and neither will other car companies. They'll offer both ICE and BEV until they no longer offer ICE. Now, it's more age of the companies. Rivian, Lucid, will they make it and there are some other startups. Tesla will become the middle-aged EV carmaker if that happens.

Far more bang for your buck, things like HUD, Apple Carplay, surround/overhead cameras, etc... things that Elon is stubbornly refusing to add. You usually get the promised 10-80% in 18 minutes, as long as it is not cold. Hyundai and Kia try to solve this coldgating by preheating. And Hyundai/kia has to improve the software. But to me still the closest competitor to Model Y.

Thank you for this reivew, nicely done. Just an FYI, the mode button does not turn on sounds of nature, you must have hit the media button on the steering wheel. The mode button is designed to toggle through the Snow (hold to get it), Eco, Normal, Sport modes. The modes changing will also change the instrument cluster design, but the general layout will remain the same. Also to note, the 360 camera view allows you to spin the view around the car by swiping on the screen. Unrelated, I noticed that you had the car in Auto Regen mode; I don't know if you were aware, but you can modulate the regen modes manually, with the paddles, to tune how you slow the car down, and there is the iPedal mode that is one pedal driving. Funny that you mention the Telluride because the EV6 has the same wheelbase at 2.9m. I also agree that Kia has been making the transition to better quality and being more upscale for quite some time, my SX Touring Niro EV is an incredible value with excellent range, has been 100% reliable for 2.5 years and 58,000km of driving. Nice video, I especially like the perspective from a more Tesla-centric person because my channel is a bit the opposite, more Kia-centric. Thanks again.

Not sure how I could look at the ipad of the Y after having the gorgeous heads up display in the EV6. 3. The Kia warranty blew me away. 10/100k years on powertrain and battery pack. 5/60 general warranty and 5/60 roadside assistance! 4. Apple car play. I have never used it but the EV6 has it and it seems to be popular. 5. Vehicle to load feature is interesting. Check out the video of the guy charging his tesla from the EV6.

    Hey Ben, nice work.
In the UK I think Kia began their transition nearly a decade ago with introduction of a 7 year warranty, based on their confidence in their design and build quality.
However, I don't get the impression that they're trying to transition to a luxury segment like Lexus etc, rather to position themselves as suppliers of modern (ground up BEV design) tech capable, reliable and stylish EVs.
I think they have achieved this. Korean technology and design is world-leading (Samsung, LG) and Hyundai/Kia group with their shared global BEV platform.
I saw the EV6 September 2021 at the Fully Charged Show (check it out - one in the USA soon) but it was larger than I'm looking for.

I have a Tesla Model 3 and a Hyundai Ioniq (original model). With the Tesla I engage park on the stalk and walk away with my phone in my pocket - it auto-immobilises and I can close any windows later. With the Hyundai I engage park, engage the handbrake, hit the 'off' button on the dashboard, close any open windows and then lock the car with the key fob. If I leave a window open I need to go back, switch on the ignition and close it manually. Ok this sounds trivial but after the Tesla I often forget one of those steps with the Hyundai and there is no engine noise to remind you that you haven't switched it off. So my long-winded question is have Kia/Hyundai sorted this out with their new models so that you can switch everything off and close the windows with the fob or your phone?

The only problem I foresee with KIA's EVs is getting the "Electrify America" charging network to actually work. My theory behind that whole network is that it was created by the Big Three and Corporate America to deter people from actually adopting EVs and having anyone using that Network feel extreme regret for buying an EV and having to be stuck on that Network. Kia's best bet if it wants to actually compete with Tesla is to buy into their charging Network which is very extensive and very reliable.

    • @beammeier4997
      @beammeier4997 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@4literv6 AHHHH HAAAA HAAAA HAAAA!!! Oh Really? "Electrify America "beats" Tesla's Charging Network?" Mind proving in a logical/factual way why that would be exactly? Or was this an "opinion piece" written by Corporate America that you swallowed 100% without actually doing any research to verify if this was intrinsically true or not? I suspect the latter because the typical TH-camr is lazy and unwilling to actually put the work in to get their facts straight.
Also, would you mind explaining why a charging Network that claims to be "better" than Tesla's has more than a few problems? Whenever I see anyone on any TH-cam video interact with "Electrify America's" charging network either with a Tesla, a Volt or a Prius, problems arise; either a majority of the Chargers at any one location on the network are "down for maintenance" or the charging rate is so slow that there's no point in going to a charging station that takes 10 hours to charge when you're directed to it during the daytime on a road trip. What's also really sad about Electrify America charging network is that once you get close to charging your vehicle in full the rate at which it charges slows down to the point where you're stuck at the charging station for nearly an extra hour because the EVs that normally charge at those stations are sub-standard and can't take a normal high flow of electricity to get them charged up completely.
Neither of these problems have ever plagued any Tesla charging Network station because if they did the Corporate Media would have a field day and claim that the Tesla network was faulty and tried to create that false Narrative of which you're feebly trying to push here.
How exactly is that better than current version 3 of Tesla's charging Network? I have never heard of anyone complain about any Tesla charging station that has either been down or malfunctioning to the point where you can't actually use the charging station you were directed to stop at by the Electrify America's navigation protocols.
All I've ever heard from anyone who's ever used a Tesla charging Network station is that they get charged faster than they anticipated and can spend time getting a lunch break while on the road in about a half an hour to 45 minutes depending on how much charge your vehicle needs. That's only the old version of the Tesla charging Network. The current version three charges in half the time and is quite efficient and has never been "down for maintenance". Also version 3 & Beyond are going to be solar powered so there is no chance that with the battery storage system and also solar energy that anyone can complain about the Tesla charging Network at that point.
The fact is Electrify America has had numerous complaints against it which you can find out pretty easily when you do a Google search from reliable sources that aren't being paid by Corporate America to create a false narrative.
So please enlighten me with your Pearls of Wisdom on how exactly Electrify America, which half of a charging location breaks down on a regular basis, or is mysteriously "down for maintenance" on a regular basis and not even their navigation protocols can effectively guide a person to the correct type of charger is somehow "better" than Tesla's which I've never heard breaking down or had anybody complain about the charging stations not working or being foolishly directed to a charger that takes 10 hours on a road trip during the day... you have to admit that's just stupid! LOL
P.S. - Without even looking at your "Source material" I can already logically deduce that the "opinion piece" of which you speak has a bias to it and is more than likely written by Corporate America/the short sellers who want to bet against the success of Tesla and or automakers that are in direct competition with Tesla for the market share of the EV Market which of course will never happen because they don't want to make EVs that actually work; what they want to do is I will sell you a lemon passed off as an EV so that would create the perception that EV's are not better than gas-powered vehicles.
So, logically, I suggest you verify the source from which this particular information came because obviously it makes claims it can't substantiate and basically doesn't know what it's talking about. It's trying to create a false narrative easily manipulated people will fall for because they refuse to put in 5 minutes of research to find out if the source material is actually valid or not. No one who knows anything about Tesla would ever believe this and anyone who's even interacted minimally with Tesla charging Network would ever take seriously.
Congratulations on getting the easily manipulated by Corporate America and the lies they want to try and clumsily hurl against Tesla because they're desperate to try and stop them. Ironically this is just like the competition that the big three one to try and create against the Japanese import wave of the 1980s and 90s but didn't work because the executives refused to listen to their customers which seems like a common sense thing to do as a business person but of course their egos were more than their common sense.
So the Japanese ate their lunch in the market share and Tesla is of course doing the same and will continue to do the same no matter how hard they actually want to try to make a decent electric vehicle which they don't because they're still beholden to the fossil fuel industry.
"Electrify America beats Tesla's Charging Network." HAAAA HAAAA HAAAA!!!! You'd have to be pretty ignorant to believe that.
Lastly, I am in no way a biased "Tesla Fanboy"; what I am is educated, and know more than most about Tesla's Charging Network and Electrify America.

But greatly diminished by the flat-out link-bait title, and the glossing over of the greatly reduced actual range with AWD, which is a feature that's needed for those with winter road trips like myself. Also, a lack of mentioning the widely-reported cold weather charging speed concerns, which may wind up greatly affecting it's viability in wintery climates. I miss those real-world data based assessments, and am hopeful for Kia (and Hyundai) and Ben's generally great work and channel going forward.

For a data analytics specialist by trade, I would have expected much more in the way of comparison/analysis. All of your ratings were subjective, which is fine, but you shared what felt like your back of the napkin assessment as you gave the scores. For example you gave it a 3 for charging network but then talked about how it had “great charging” and towards this end of the vid it felt like you were actively trying to sell us the car. Hmmm, that felt too far subjective going into ‘I’m bought’ territory.

Well, it obviously won’t happen overnight. Even Tesla took many years to ramp up their production rate.
So I’m sure Kia (and Hyundai) will increase production as they see the demand increase. And of course they already have the production logistics in place with the many millions of ICE vehicles they currently produce annually. So transferring those logistics over to EV production should be fairly straight forward. The limiting factor of course will be battery supply, and no doubt they have plans in place to secure more supplies into the future.
