Makes me angry that neighbors and council made their dream home such a difficult project but, despite it not being exactly as originally planned, the end result is still just fabulous. ✨✨✨

I feel the same way, I can't understand how the neighbors were so awful, I would have never moved in I wouldn't want those kind of neighbors

From the start even with the one wall, this was always a new build.

of course. They attempted to dodge the planning and building laws and didnt get away with it.

This is exactly why you should hire professionals to help you. They know how to handle all the bureaucracy and can save you a lot of money and time.

@RafaelH-e8y If they hired professionals they would have known how to keep the wall that was required for it to be a major remodel. One solution a professional might have come up with is a staged demolishing and rebuilt. They had basically three sections to build an accommodation i.e. bedrooms section a living room entry kitchen section and a garage. The existing garage likely helped hold up the wall they needed to save. If the garage was not structurally enough to hold up the wall the bedroom section could have been built while the living area section was still up and then the living room section removed in such as way to keep the original wall. Professionals would have been able to help them to get to such a solution instead of the headache they found themselves in.

@@philipbloomquist1580 A major remodel?!? FFS, that was not a remodel even on a sunny day. Just a buch of red tape forcing people to turn themselves inside out and then getting battered - and for what?

The combination of nasty jealous neighbors and bureaucrats that behave like mafias would've been enough to put off anyone with less drive and determination than this brave couple; kudos to them for that beautiful home they built.

That is why it is best not to take shortcuts. It would be interesting to hear the view from the actual neighbors and what they planned to do that got rejected. Consult with a proffesional who works with the council laws and rules and regulations and avoid disappointment. It will make a boring show though, so quite enjoy all the drama.

We can all have an opinion on style, the demolition and reasons for doing this. But they are lovely people, tried to do good by the neighbourhood in the beginning by giving away plants etc. The council and neighbours should be ashamed of themselves. I wish them well. I would not have survived this.

Lesson: never tear down the wall that keeps you within a legal defined status. They tried to outsmart the council and bypass the law... They got a deserved slap on the wrist. The law is there to be complied with and upheld. The neighbors sucked in this instance and behaved like creeps

Another story of wastefulness... knocking down a perfectly good home to build another... be satisfied with what you have instead of feeling the "need" to put up something that caused a lot of grief for them and animosity amongst the neighbors and ending up with a project that stretched their finances beyond their means

I would never build in any area where there are rules, regulations and neighbors who restrict creativity or practicality. Compromise is when both parties lose and it is unnecessary. One cannot reason with those who do not use reason

Sound like projecting on your part so who hurt you? True he could have worded it as he would never chose to live with a Karen like that instead of have to live with a Karen like that. It is a statement to indicate that he was fortunate that he did not make the mistake of choosing a partner who he views as problematic as he views the woman in this episode as being problematic. I would say the dynamitic of the couple in the episode works for them but I could see that working for other people.
