- We've all been waiting for Hot Hatches in India, and we've all been hoping that the Abarth is both priced sensibly and more than a cosmetic gimmick.
Well, the hopes have turned true and how! Here's a first look of what could be called as India's first, modern-day Hot 145hp hatch!

These viewers make all this noise , cheer , halla ho..and they will eventually buy Maruti swift VDI/Dzire/i20 etc . These are not bad cars..but how can u show off these cars..seriously!!. You are amongst the millions of autorickshaws and maruthi's and hyundais etc. Honestly "The best cars are never bought ...they are always craved".Fiat Punto/linea etc are such cars..They are the best ..but only few buy them.

Do a comparison with the Punto Abarth sold abroad. One will understand how much the Indian Engineers have compromised.
But still, I appreciate Fiat for bringing it here. Let's see if other Car Makers are going to launch something to compete. Fingers Crossed!

I am an ex fiat fan boy the reason I say ex is because there was no successor to my Palio GTX until now 😇 looks like the Civic will have to make way for the Punto Abarth and a good remap and I will have a real world hot hatch indeed 👍

When you talk about Sporty, it's about Adrenaline. A 'Car' means different to different people. A commuter for some, a people carrier to some, pure thrill to some. The name "PowerDrift" means something, doesn't it?So PD looks at cars as thrill bestowing machines.

It's the Abarth Punto.
For this machine dares you to think beyond. I bet Rohan would agree with me if I said that Steering breathes life. That motor gives you power that we middle class can only dream about. Well , what's in a well mannered horse that never jumps? One that is difficult to tame has all the thrills to offer. All 4 discs to give you more assurance, that I think is more important.I still remember the look on Rohan's face when he experienced torque steer on the Abarth. Sure, he has seen better cars with great Dynamics and supreme comfort. But So much Thrill has never been made so affordable as the Abarth.
As for Figo, a superb car! Alas! Not in the league of the Abarth. Ford needs encouragement for the effort they put in. So, buy the Ford Figo S while you can. As for the Abarth, I was told production restarted this June-July. Have to confirm.

The international Standard Abarth punto comes with 1.4 ltr 155 BHP and the Esseesse Abarth punto comes with a more powerful 1.4 ltr 180 BHP engine.
It would have been better if Fiat India tuned up the engine to produce 155 BHP and does 0 to 100 kph in less than 8 seconds.
It will be a REAL BOON if it would come 6 speed automatic gearbox and as well as with a touch screen infotainment and navigation system..
But the price of this model MIGHT BE AROUND 12-13 lakh ex-showroom

Powerdrift you completely forgot about the comprehensive review that you promised. 2018 Abarth Punto comes with 5" infortainment with same 145 bhp that make you smile.
Ok so it has "strong" Fiat build. Fiat is also known for great handling. It has looks. It will have performance. Its petrol. Its manual. Its priced right as well. Its definitely a car for an Indian driving enthusiast. Hope it sells well.

I took a td of Abarth, torque steer is massive. But after 2 torquey launches, i managed to launch the car with a little bit of wheel spin and boy it flies! I could manage to hit 100kph in 9.2 seconds(Phone video calculation :p). It drives like my diesel punto, just that the powerband is massive (2500-6500rpm) whereas the diesel punto tapers off at around 4000rpm. Bhp and top speed aside, it's the widespread torque that impressed me more, effortless to drive and cruise around! Awesome! It's a complete package, you have good interior room, pretty damn good Interior design and quality, great sounding music system, racy seats and abarth Instrument cluster, what else can you ask for! And for kitna deti hai community, turbo petrol will give more kmpl as the torque generated is high and at very low rpm, so you dont need to rev the guts out of your engine to build up speed and to overtake, that positively reflects in the fuel consumption, existing T jet owners have reported around 18-20kmpl when cruising on highway, that should be enough to justify how impressive this package is. And then the looks, there is nothing you can find like this car on indian roads! Sticker job is loud, but then all you need is some alcohol to remove those stickers, they are just stickers, not paint. :D

+Yash Agrawal I dont think the gap will be too wide to push the GT out of the picture. Even with 40hp advantage the punto is just about a sec faster in the 0-100 sprint (if the numbers posted in the other sites are to be believed)

Hey PD, I pray so much that this hatch finds homes and yes FIAT some good sales! The Abarth Punto TVC was a big let down - 21 sec of rapid scenes of a car spinning.... Counting on PD for a better showreel. Man, you guys are awesome!

Torque steer is given when u put a 145 horses through front wheels without a proper diff but still it a senario changer and for once i can say we really do have a "HOT HATCH" and that too a steal of a price old punto's had bang on handling have to see what's AbarthFIED punto like ...!!!!

Guys, I saw this car in person today and I couldn't stop drooling at it. But as a noob in trying out cars, I think it would be great if you guys can come up with a set of video tutorials explaining how to try out and what to look for in terms of aspects and features in a car when checking it out in the showroom. It will help all new car buyers.

Hi ..I'm in the market for a new four wheeler. shortlisted duster & punto abarth. Is the torque steer in punto abarth something that I should be worried about? Will it be a problem in chock-a-block traffic? Also how good is the punto abarth for long distance trips of about 800km?
+Vinod Kumar One is a hot-hatch which the other is an SUV! Torque steer is a problem yes but it can be managed unless you are too heavy on the pedal.
When exactly is comprehensive review coming? It has been quiet a while.
How were the gear shifts? Were they smooth or rubbery like the previous Punto's?

Also ..since GT TDI has massive 250 nm torque for a hatch..if you can really bring out where does abarth scores...cause if I recollect.. you guys mentioned polo also does 0 to 100 under 10s..why is it not a hot hatch..

seen this car in a fiat showroom delhi was a delight. top notch finishing and built which is putting cars like ciaz, city verna to shame. the light on the storage console is so so premium. and these alloys. fucking good car. getting test drive car on wednesday as i am going bonkers to book this. had test driven GT and thats not also a mean machine.

Good review waiting for the detail review.Fiat could have added some instruments to the interiors like touch screen parking sensors parking camera that is the one they miss.Inspite of having all the motor resources with them they still can't get the interiors good.
+Ram prasath Thank you Ram. This car is a sweet little hot hatch, India's first in more than a way, and chances are that you will spend most of your time just flooring the pedal to the metal. And chances are while doing so, you'd not be looking at those fancy bells and whistles :P
FINALLY!!! they should get a 2 cheaper door without all the electronics (power windows, stereo etc.)
punto is really underrated..I am glad fiat is willing to take the risk in indian market.

Great with the torque steer :) could have been better if it was a rear wheel drive. How much power you add, the same wheels with acceleration and steering on same wheel gives a lot understeer. I love the strips on the roof.

Contessa was a great car except for its maintenance. Love its shake when comes to a sudden stop. Yes even Innova is a RWD, but there has not been a RWD Thrill Car yet.(For aam admi).

If you love driving a manual, the Abarth would be a better choice, but for an automatic, the Polo. That said, the Abarth is more powerful than the Polo.
