I definitely suggest everyone plant some of them and i planted morning glory right next to it so they intertwined and i had blue flowers during the day and while they shut the moon flowers were opening! Watching people with big gardens always reminds me of my childhood! My parents had a garden large enough garden to feed our family of 10 all year long! Lots of 'fresh from the garden' meals in the summer...then lots of canned and frozen veggies all winter long! I loved it! I have a large garden now and understand all the work my Mom went thru with 8 kids on a farm. She's gone now, but I have lots of good memories to think back on as I walk thru my garden! "This is not what I'm supposed to be doing right now" STORY. OF. MY. LIFE. EVERY. DAY. IN. THE. GARDEN! Lol! My husband is always like "I thought you were just running out to ___"
This is my 2nd year at my new property & I can't wait to see how things like my roses & fruit trees do this year vs. Last year! 😁
Every time I talk about my peonies my husband says it sounds like I'm saying "panties" lol. I find that pulling weeds as soon as they pop up is best, because they don't have deep roots yet, but I also don't mulch with straw. I've always been scared that I'll end up with a bunch of weeds popping up everywhere.

Thank especially for talking about kitchen gardens, love it, it’s so freeing to create following our love of beauty in the gardens as it truly does work out well. Also it’s helpful hearing you talk about the beds with weeds at least for now as can’t till it with many nice things returning. It drives me nuts yet there are other areas really doing nicely with 5 varieties of iris, Columbine and lilies fight weeds back, thyme, lots of transplanted mint,(that I couldn’t bear to throw away!), rosemary, blue Veronica, buds on the roses, even new greenery on the chrysanthemums and blue asters. Nice tip mulching with hay/straw? Best to everyone!

My favorite thing to see on your trellises are the long weird melon-squash. Those and the purple noodle beans. I would love to see those again.

New Zealand spinach is a lot like the Malibar in that I planted it once and now have 6/7 volunteers every year all over the yard. It pops up the minute the weather warms and thrives in SoCal heat.

Hey Jess Charles Dowding so does his beets in clumps of four and when one is ready for harvest he pulls it out and it doesn’t disturb the other three that are left and then they mature and he just has multiple beets at different harvest times

On that arch--moonflowers would be amazing, as noted by other commenters.
For something different, have you tried chayote squash? You can just set one from the grocery store on a windowsill until it sprouts, and then plant the whole thing. You will get loads of them and they are delicious, like the inside of a broccoli stem

Purple Hyacinth Bean for that entry trellis - they are prolific climbers, beautiful, and love hot humid climates! There are different opinions as to whether or not you can eat the bean itself. Some do some don't. Eat them young if you do. But irregardless, they are BEAUTIFUL

For your trellis you could maybe do snow peas, shell peas, small-fruited cucumbers (the pickled like kind), or even the intermediate small-fruited tomatoes, maybe?

Tip for clematis: They like their roots to be shaded and cool. The key to getting a nice vigorous clematis plant is to grow small ground cover type plants at the base of the clematis to shade it's roots.
