In European Portuguese non-stressed vowels are closed to the point they are barely pronounced, and in everyday life most people will mostly omit those vowels, kind of like the 'ai' in mountain. Also the s at the end of a word is pronounced as shh, so in Fernandes case it is pronounced like Fernandsh, or simply FrnAndsh. In Brazilian Portuguese though it would be more like Fernandeiz, or Fehnandeiz
Good explanation. I do think people overdo the barely pronouncing of the vowel a bit, like in the famous Derek Rae commentary. “Fernandge”. If you listen to Jota saying it you can still hear a vowel in there, it’s just not as prominent. Maybe I’m being a nitpicker but I feel like “Fernandge” still isn’t the right pronunciation 😂
@@h3nr_. Brazil's "portuguese" actually differs from its mother language. It's like saying "Spain's spanish" or "Argentina's spanish". Kinda the same thing
India and Sri Lanka has lot of Fernandes in their country. Specially in states of Goa and Kerala. For example - Brandon Fernandes is Indian footie player.
Valuable Portuguese lesson from a Portuguese. When you want to say a word just try to say it ignoring 80% of the vowels. Example: Bruno Fernandes = Brn Frnandsh
@@orientof No, I know people pronounce it wrongly. (Fernandez, like in spanish, usually). So many videos on how to pronounce Bruno Fernandes, but no videos on how to pronounce João. We need just one video
As a Portuguese, that's hard level. You need to master Fernandes and Ronaldo before even thinking about learning João
