Great talk, Cathy. I have to admit it's a topic I don't know a great deal about, as we didn't have them in Australia. But your talk provided a really useful overview of what they are and how they've transformed over time often into private houses.
Great talk! I have to say living in Canada that I was not familiar with almshouses so this was a great introduction to this very interesting buildings/institutions. I will have to look into whether my places have almshouses within their boundaries.
How were these allocated? Good connections and influence ? with so much hardship around it must have been seen by many as winning the pools. And assuming they were old inhabitants, how did the landlords cope with declining health ? Evict them to some other institution? In London there are quite a lot. Some near me and I always wonder how lovely it must have been to step over the threshold when given the key.

Great to see Cathy is introducing Almshouses to those of you who haven't got them where you live. A great introduction to them.
