Definitely looks weird that Daredevil is the only one in a costume. I'm fine Luke Cage and Jessica Jones as they typically don't wear costumes, but they really should try to incorporate Iron Fist's costume at some point.

My head canon reasoning for Matt having the upper hand against Danny is that the Hand's fighting style is derivative of the one taught to K'un-Lun's warriors (as all five fingers were trained there), and Stick taught Matt the style of the Chaste, which was designed specifically for fighting against the Hand, thus also sufficiently capable of dealing with warriors of K'un-Lun.

Here's what we need from the second season of Iron Fist: . Show him fighting the bloody dragon to get his iron fists . Better choreography . Better writing . Have Danny actually learn to use the iron fists properly in a fight . Get Danny to wear the costume . Get Danny to be somewhat mature . Introduce a villain that has some connection to the dragon or Kung Lun or has some kinda weird power. . Get a better editor . The music for season 1 was pretty dope and I thought the intro was pretty decent, so idk, that can stay . Less business stuff but, keep some business stuff cos, I mean, he owns 52% of a company, he's gotta do some something with that, perhaps use it for comedic affect? and that's how we fix season 2.... I genuinely want it to be good, some people could be like "another way to fix Iron Fist season 2 is to not have it" but, come on, a cool martial arts hero, who's a billionaire, got magic hands from punching a dragon in the heart and fights mystic enemies? It could've been so cool. .
Everyone arguing about the comic portrayal is wasting their time. The fact of the matter here is simple, in the marvel TV series, Daredevil had some of the best TV fight scenes in the last decade (ex. the single shot hallway scene tributing Old Boy), by contrast, all the choreography in Iron Fist and Defenders involving Danny Rand, has been horrible C-rate shit that I'm embarrassed to even watch. Everyone's recent experience is based on our viewing experience, plain and simple, and Daredevil is fun to watch and good at fight choreography - and Iron Fist is not. The guy is supposed to be the worlds best martial artist, I've seen better fight scenes in chick flicks.
Yvaelle, If your're talking about the hallway stair fight scene from S2, that was actually around three separate shots but they did a couple of interesting tricks to mask cuts. In my Uni's film club, one of the student members messaged the editor through his contact on imbd( I think it was the editor...been a while) and he told him. By no means does that subtract from the scene though. If it's the one you were thinking about, that makes it all the more impressive. Film/tv is a creative medium from pre-production to the final product :)
Bad fighting: unimpressive choreography, poorly executed by the actors/stunt doubles, shot under poor lighting, with no clarity as to who is hitting and who's getting hit or how they're getting hit. Wrap that up nicely with bad editing and compare it to Daredevil's stunning quality on fight scenes for a Western show and Iron Fist's fighting is awful. But I'm ready to assume everyone involved in Iron Fist went the Expendables school of choreography and the Taken 3 school of editing. Add the Marvel school of writing two-dimensional characters and it's understandable that Iron Fist is so bad, which is a shame with such potential.
Hunter Zolomon I think it's less of the actors fault and more the writers because there were a lot of moments in Defenders where he seemed very likable.
Fun fact, iron fist is supposed to be the best fighter in the marvel universe, I have no idea what Netflix did to this beloved character,. I just hope marvel gives Danny another shot instead of replacing him for a different iron fist.

**SPOILERS, MAYBE, I GUESS** So I had a bunch of issues with The Defenders, but to save time I'll only address one here. At the very end before everyone leaves Matt and Elektra to die, Matt whispers something in Danny's ear. Then after the building comes down Danny says to the rest of the gang, "He told me to protect his city." Was that really worth the whispering and the 5 second mystery? I sure as shit didn't think so.

What? That's definitely what he said. If you listen really closely when Matt is whispering in Danny's ear you can faintly hear the words "protect my city." Even if we couldn't hear those words, Matt never says that out loud so where would Danny get that from? Also, I understand that since Matt made it out it's easy to assume that Gao did too, but we never see that happen for any of them so you can't definitively say that she's still alive. Especially since Marvel isn't shy about killing off their cinematic universe villains.
it came out years later that finn refused to train before all of his scenes, the trainers and producers came clean out of sheer 'PTSD' over shooting where they were blamed and their hands were tied because he just flat out refused to learn the choreo, so they had to shoot almost ALL of his fights in the dark or with his face obscured for a stunt double to do them. what a shit show.

my least favorite part about the iron fist in these shows is by far how little he actually uses the fist. Its treated as some sort of final move in the show, and most of the time he's just a regular kung fu guy, but in the comics if he's fighting he uses it pretty much constantly, like he never turns it off, cause why would he? just really annoyed me that he basically just doesn't use his powers
Actually, in the comics Daredevil was always a match for Iron Fist. The thing about DD is that his senses are phenomenal, he knows you're about to strike just by noting a beat of the heart and the following stretch and pull of muscle fibers.
The shows had different showrunners. What I imagine happened is that the Defenders' showrunner read the scripts or watched the dailies for Iron Fist and thought "Oh boy, this is going to be a problem". So he tried to anticipate people's complaints.
They need to give iron fist his costume, or a realistic version if his comic costume. They need to give him both of his fists and make his fight scenes like the guards in the pilot episode, iron fist is supposed to know how to kick ass, they shouldnt make it look like he can be taken down so easily. I think they chose the right actor but they need to wright a script that has Danny becoming stronger and wiser.
Danny Rand has never been a great fighter, Daredevil can kick Black panthers ass in a fight, while black panther has beaten the shit out of rand before

They most defintely had him doing push ups and pull ups. Finn Jones is a lazy fuck who looks like he doesn't even know what a push up feels like. He's supposed to have a body like Connor McGregor or Bruce Lee at least.
Because the Iron Fist season was pretty bad I loved that fact that Matt was actually able to beat him in a fight, we have watched him evolve as a figher and being able to hold his own against tougher guys then Iron Fist has. If all of a sudden Iron Fist in The Defenders was superior to Matt fighting wise it would have been weird because Matt has proven his a good fighter Iron fist hasent. If in Iron Fist, Danny was shown to be a great martial artist it would make sense he could beat Matt but because of the poor season and the awful fights it made more sense that Matt beats him.
my favourite conspiracy is that nick mason and mr sunday movies are the same person doing two voices and using editing makes it seem its two people by having them talk over each other.
What makes Iron Fist so bad, is that they have the character basically whine all. the. time. He's arrogant and entitled. Ok, we could work with that. But then he doesn't actually prove himself a good guy in any way. He's willing to risk the entire destruction of New York because of his own ego (because he doesn't want to be even momentarily put on the bench/ asked to stay back). So not into what's doing best for others then. Ok, I could deal with that. If he were really, amazingly good at being a protector/ doing his job. ...No, he's not that either. He abandons Kun Lun and it gets destroyed. Not a great protector. He was trained by the best monks ever, and yet couldn't hold his own with Daredevil, who was trained by Stick, without deferring to using his super power. And he chose to use it against someone who had none, who is really his ally, who might have been seriously harmed by an iron fist to the chest--talk about overkill for them asking you to sit one out. He's a crap guy, all the way around. Stuff like this is why he wasn't well received. You gotta give audiences SOMETHING to root for.
kurarisusa You underestimate Stick, Stick was trained and later became a leader of the Chaste, which was made to fight off the Hand. Stick is possibly one of the best MA in the Marvel Universe.
Oh I don't doubt it. Sticks awesome, got no problem with him. But that's not my point. My point is that Iron Fist is "supposed" to be one of "the best" and therefore have been chosen to protect Kun Lun. Which means he should be able to do more than hold his own against Daredevil, and he couldn't even do that in this series.
Iron Fist in the comics: badass fighter, can use BOTH fists, smart Iron Fist in Netflix: incompetent idiot, always gets his ass handed to him, only uses one fist and can't use his power after like 24hrs which is complete bullshit, acts like a baby and doesn't like when people have a better solution
The further I come away from the series the more I dislike it. Danny Rand obviously sucks and for him to be "the key" made it worse. The Hand seemed like a bunch of bumbling idiots and posed no real threat to the Defenders. Also, Sigourney Weaver's character was just killed out of the blue as she was set up to be the big bad. Everything building up to the Hand and their plot seemed really cool and it just fell flat.

Darth Vanquish ... Agree with your points. The Hand did not deliver a compelling villain, either individually or collectively. So they had to get Iron Fist to crank up his chi to unlock a door to a mystic basement so they could harvest segments of dragon bone so as to continue to be immortal. Sigourney was particularly underutilized, and for her to not see Elektra coming with her coup attempt was just silly. I'm still not impressed with Finn Jones or his stunt double or the fight choreography in terms of selling an action scene; it still looks hokey. Lastly, I really don't want to hear about Kung Lun again until you're ready to show us the place, not just the spot where you keep the dragon skeleton... rant over. 😉
Finally a video when people talk about how amazing ironfist should be compared to the others. I 100% agree. The writers have no idea how to handle is character. Maybe send him back to his city at the end of season 2, we don't see him for a few seasons of other shows and then he comes back after completing his training. I hate seeing such an amazing character be turned into nothing
I played a game in the Defenders series called "STICKS HAND" He cuts off his right hand to escape when his character enters the season and his hand keeps reappearing over and over :D
hopefully the other defenders will have made him a better character with their harsh words. He also better get a suit

The WerewolfF he has his first suit variation at the end of Defenders. Nobody noticed it but he has a costume now. It was just without the iconic mask or symbol.
As a fan of the comic book iron fist I'd have to say that I'm not pleased with how crappy a fighter he is. He had a problem fighting a guy with a knife in his tv series. He was okay fighting cyborg machine gun ninjas in the early issues of one of his comic book series. He had problems fighting a guy with a gun on the rooftop in the show. He fought a literal god that was the size of a sky scraper in his comic book series. In the comics his Iron fist is able to hurt the hulk. In the show it's like a flashlight with rechargeable batteries.
My dad and I were watching it, and we got to the part where they're all trying to convince Danny that his fist really is a key, and he's like "WHOA. GUYS. THAT'S *CRAZY* and we lost it. We lost our shit laughing because. After everything Danny has seen. He literally fought a dragon??? And there are immortal people??? And all this crazy shit??? But the idea of his fist being able to unlock a door is like. "Insane guys THAT'S INSANE WHY WOULD YOU BELIEVE THAT" xD
at first watching this i was like "Hey i like Danny, leave him alone" Now after watching it i have to agree with you. Its made me realized, i liked the IDEA of what the Iron Fist could have been portrayed as. I especially like the example of him being trapped behind a door, and takes out 50 guys within the same time it takes for the rest of the defenders to deal with 10. Scenes like that would have really helped his character. They should have made him a ridiculously OP character(maybe untill a final showdown or something) that only struggles with moral dilemma's instead of physical ones.

Everyones' powers were wildly inconsistent. Daredevil and Luke Cage both took punches from goa and got thrown back. Either Luke cage shouldn't have moved, or daredevil should have split in half.
Iron Fist was weird. He was trained since birth to understand how to be at peace, it's his whole character, and then also he's upset and throwing tantrums several times an episode.
Carter was a different type of show, I'm not sure I'd call it better or worse. Thematically, it is closer to CW shows. Budget is closer to Netflix shows (so it "feels" better to watch). Writing is closer to Netflix shows, but the universe is much "lighter" (closer to the optimism of the movies).
Decienders is a D for me. I saw so many things wrong with it. It had it's moments, but the story was awful. AoS and Agent Carter are definitely better.
the problem with the plot is, why the hell they make it like the hand will destroy the city like it some ras al ghul with his league of assassin? and turn out in the end just want to blow open the sealed door to the dragon bone? what a dragon bone gonna do harm to the city? why hand doesnt just talk it nicely with the ironfist to get help to unseal the door and tell it for medical purpose or whatever? after seeing how it ends, rewatching them doesnt make sense at all. like why?

A lot of Kung fu moves are too flashy and waste too much movement for not enough damage. There's a reason you don't see Kung fu masters in the UFC maybe some elements or a move or two are used every now and then, but Kung fu is kind of obsolete when it comes to boxing, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu jitsu, wrestling, etcetera. Despite what the movies would have you believe. Now I'm sure I'm gonna get the argument "a true Kung fu master would never stoop so low as to join cage fighting" but how do you know that. In this vast world we live in there are many types of people who if learning Kung fu, would not take to its mantras and would show it off in the street and in the rings and such. This is why I buy DD being a better fighter, that and he needs something to be relevant. (Ps this is coming from a guy who wasted years on Kung fu to get my ass handed to me, now I just do mma, and Kung fu is a great skill set to have, the discipline, health and whatnot, but from a pure fighting stand point, it's not that good.
360nohope i think out of all the street level heroes moon knight has the best fighting style that is could actually woek in real life. It's a mixture of krav maga , savate, kung fu and boxing
Kung fu is like colonial warfare while MMA is like modern gorilla warfare. There's rules that correlates with honor and dignity Kung Fu fighters imposes on themselves that doesn't apply to sports like MMA or street fights.
360nohope I said this in the other thread but here it goes again. The way I see it, JKD was Bruce Lee's attempt to strip Kung Fu of its im-practicalities. MMA does the same. However, I chalk up Danny losing to Matt more to Matt's superior awareness and emotional control. I'm sure Kun Lun style King Fu would look oddly familiar yet alien to a Shaolin practitioner but when you're fighting a well trained fighter who can sense your every move before you make it, losing your cool will hinder you more.

I think iron fist will probably have a good second season, Finn is a good actor and Netflix/marvel tend to listen to critics. I also think that they've got a lot of the backstory out the way so they can leave him to kick ass. Plus he's got his yellow and green colours now.
I think I like the daredevil dynamic they made because really, if you compare his powers to that of the rest, they're not nearly as stunning or useful really. So giving him experience and an edge in fighting I think is really smart and cool.
The criticism for Iron Fist is a little much now. It is warranted in many areas especially in his own series, but his character in the Defenders was at worst *fine* .Danny multiple times was the only character willing to see the big picture, move the plot along, tried to work with others even when they refused, and he also compromised on his own beliefs at least a handful of times. He took what Luke said about him having other means than fist fighting and took his advice. He listened to Colleen when she said they needed allies and defended those allies when Colleen felt like they were a burden. Even him fighting against everyone else(it wasn't just DD though he did have the upper hand at the start) his reaction was understandable, as he was literally raised and trained to fight in this war and they want to bench him. I see no criticism on Matt's side for putting the entire group in jeopardy not once, not even twice, but three times over a personal connection that he and Stick kept hidden. Danny is naive and ill tempered at times but that is where he as a character is supposed to grow from. All of these characters had flaws in their own series and this one, IF just gets the bulk because of the poor way his character was handled in his series and how he's basically the driving force of this war, meaning he's a focal point.

It's common knowledge among practitioners that Kung-Fu is not as effective as the mainstream movies wants you to believe. Only casual fans really believes that Bruce Lee was a superhuman for example, also other fighters who wants to say popular things just to appeal for the public. And saying that, netflix committed a big mistake with the actor, he is a misscast, plain and simple. Even if they forced the issue, showboating kung-fu as the greatest martial art that can defeat anything and etc.. Even with this gimmick, I don't think the public would accept that actor. He doesn't have any charisma.
Rafael Teles Bruce Lee has the one inch punch you normie. I've had that shit happen to me and that really is superhuman. Also, the actor isn't miscast. If you see him in interviews, he acts almost exactly like the comic version of Iron Fist. It's the writing, plain and simple.
There is no guy doing american television that could do good Kung Fu fight scenes and still act. Everyone only shits on him, because his character should be the best fighter, but really, they all can't fight and all the fight scenes are just unimaginative punching with lots of cuts, except for 1 fight per season of Daredevil.

My head canon reasoning for Matt having the upper hand against Danny is that the Hand's fighting style is derivative of the one taught to K'un-Lun's warriors (as all five fingers were trained there), and Stick taught Matt the style of the Chaste, which was designed specifically for fighting against the Hand, thus also sufficiently capable of dealing with warriors of K'un-Lun.
Stick trained nothing more than 2 years, he did the rest by himself.
Bringing Bakuto back was a waste of time. All it did was rehash Colleen's character arc in the Iron Fist series.

. Introduce a villain that has some connection to the dragon or Kung Lun or has some kinda weird power.

Everyone arguing about the comic portrayal is wasting their time. The fact of the matter here is simple, in the marvel TV series, Daredevil had some of the best TV fight scenes in the last decade (ex. the single shot hallway scene tributing Old Boy), by contrast, all the choreography in Iron Fist and Defenders involving Danny Rand, has been horrible C-rate shit that I'm embarrassed to even watch. Everyone's recent experience is based on our viewing experience, plain and simple, and Daredevil is fun to watch and good at fight choreography - and Iron Fist is not. The guy is supposed to be the worlds best martial artist, I've seen better fight scenes in chick flicks.
Yvaelle, If your're talking about the hallway stair fight scene from S2, that was actually around three separate shots but they did a couple of interesting tricks to mask cuts. In my Uni's film club, one of the student members messaged the editor through his contact on imbd( I think it was the editor...been a while) and he told him.
By no means does that subtract from the scene though. If it's the one you were thinking about, that makes it all the more impressive. Film/tv is a creative medium from pre-production to the final product :)

Bad fighting: unimpressive choreography, poorly executed by the actors/stunt doubles, shot under poor lighting, with no clarity as to who is hitting and who's getting hit or how they're getting hit. Wrap that up nicely with bad editing and compare it to Daredevil's stunning quality on fight scenes for a Western show and Iron Fist's fighting is awful.
But I'm ready to assume everyone involved in Iron Fist went the Expendables school of choreography and the Taken 3 school of editing. Add the Marvel school of writing two-dimensional characters and it's understandable that Iron Fist is so bad, which is a shame with such potential.
It sucks because Iron Fist is essentially a Z-Fighter in the comics

I know this is 5y old but I have to say Daredevil can see the hits as they're coming because all the movements from iron fist can be heard without effort by daredevil.
**SPOILERS, MAYBE, I GUESS**
So I had a bunch of issues with The Defenders, but to save time I'll only address one here. At the very end before everyone leaves Matt and Elektra to die, Matt whispers something in Danny's ear. Then after the building comes down Danny says to the rest of the gang, "He told me to protect his city." Was that really worth the whispering and the 5 second mystery? I sure as shit didn't think so.

What? That's definitely what he said. If you listen really closely when Matt is whispering in Danny's ear you can faintly hear the words "protect my city." Even if we couldn't hear those words, Matt never says that out loud so where would Danny get that from? Also, I understand that since Matt made it out it's easy to assume that Gao did too, but we never see that happen for any of them so you can't definitively say that she's still alive. Especially since Marvel isn't shy about killing off their cinematic universe villains.
it came out years later that finn refused to train before all of his scenes, the trainers and producers came clean out of sheer 'PTSD' over shooting where they were blamed and their hands were tied because he just flat out refused to learn the choreo, so they had to shoot almost ALL of his fights in the dark or with his face obscured for a stunt double to do them. what a shit show.
He sounds like a real tool, they probably only cast because he was in Game of Thrones and Game of Thrones wasn’t a complete shit show back then. If don’t to learn choreography, you shouldn’t be Iron Fist.
my least favorite part about the iron fist in these shows is by far how little he actually uses the fist. Its treated as some sort of final move in the show, and most of the time he's just a regular kung fu guy, but in the comics if he's fighting he uses it pretty much constantly, like he never turns it off, cause why would he? just really annoyed me that he basically just doesn't use his powers
Actually, in the comics Daredevil was always a match for Iron Fist. The thing about DD is that his senses are phenomenal, he knows you're about to strike just by noting a beat of the heart and the following stretch and pull of muscle fibers.
The shows had different showrunners. What I imagine happened is that the Defenders' showrunner read the scripts or watched the dailies for Iron Fist and thought "Oh boy, this is going to be a problem". So he tried to anticipate people's complaints.

Because the Iron Fist season was pretty bad I loved that fact that Matt was actually able to beat him in a fight, we have watched him evolve as a figher and being able to hold his own against tougher guys then Iron Fist has. If all of a sudden Iron Fist in The Defenders was superior to Matt fighting wise it would have been weird because Matt has proven his a good fighter Iron fist hasent. If in Iron Fist, Danny was shown to be a great martial artist it would make sense he could beat Matt but because of the poor season and the awful fights it made more sense that Matt beats him.

What makes Iron Fist so bad, is that they have the character basically whine all. the. time. He's arrogant and entitled. Ok, we could work with that. But then he doesn't actually prove himself a good guy in any way. He's willing to risk the entire destruction of New York because of his own ego (because he doesn't want to be even momentarily put on the bench/ asked to stay back). So not into what's doing best for others then. Ok, I could deal with that. If he were really, amazingly good at being a protector/ doing his job. ...No, he's not that either. He abandons Kun Lun and it gets destroyed. Not a great protector. He was trained by the best monks ever, and yet couldn't hold his own with Daredevil, who was trained by Stick, without deferring to using his super power. And he chose to use it against someone who had none, who is really his ally, who might have been seriously harmed by an iron fist to the chest--talk about overkill for them asking you to sit one out. He's a crap guy, all the way around. Stuff like this is why he wasn't well received. You gotta give audiences SOMETHING to root for.

Oh I don't doubt it. Sticks awesome, got no problem with him. But that's not my point. My point is that Iron Fist is "supposed" to be one of "the best" and therefore have been chosen to protect Kun Lun. Which means he should be able to do more than hold his own against Daredevil, and he couldn't even do that in this series.

The further I come away from the series the more I dislike it. Danny Rand obviously sucks and for him to be "the key" made it worse. The Hand seemed like a bunch of bumbling idiots and posed no real threat to the Defenders. Also, Sigourney Weaver's character was just killed out of the blue as she was set up to be the big bad. Everything building up to the Hand and their plot seemed really cool and it just fell flat.

So they had to get Iron Fist to crank up his chi to unlock a door to a mystic basement so they could harvest segments of dragon bone so as to continue to be immortal. Sigourney was particularly underutilized, and for her to not see Elektra coming with her coup attempt was just silly. I'm still not impressed with Finn Jones or his stunt double or the fight choreography in terms of selling an action scene; it still looks hokey. Lastly, I really don't want to hear about Kung Lun again until you're ready to show us the place, not just the spot where you keep the dragon skeleton... rant over. 😉

As a fan of the comic book iron fist I'd have to say that I'm not pleased with how crappy a fighter he is. He had a problem fighting a guy with a knife in his tv series. He was okay fighting cyborg machine gun ninjas in the early issues of one of his comic book series. He had problems fighting a guy with a gun on the rooftop in the show. He fought a literal god that was the size of a sky scraper in his comic book series. In the comics his Iron fist is able to hurt the hulk. In the show it's like a flashlight with rechargeable batteries.

Now after watching it i have to agree with you. Its made me realized, i liked the IDEA of what the Iron Fist could have been portrayed as.
I especially like the example of him being trapped behind a door, and takes out 50 guys within the same time it takes for the rest of the defenders to deal with 10.
Scenes like that would have really helped his character. They should have made him a ridiculously OP character(maybe untill a final showdown or something) that only struggles with moral dilemma's instead of physical ones.

the problem with the plot is, why the hell they make it like the hand will destroy the city like it some ras al ghul with his league of assassin? and turn out in the end just want to blow open the sealed door to the dragon bone? what a dragon bone gonna do harm to the city? why hand doesnt just talk it nicely with the ironfist to get help to unseal the door and tell it for medical purpose or whatever? after seeing how it ends, rewatching them doesnt make sense at all. like why?

Well to be fair, and I know I'm gonna get hate for this but, Kung fu in real life isn't that effective compared to mixed martial arts (which DD seems to have a variation of). A lot of Kung fu moves are too flashy and waste too much movement for not enough damage. There's a reason you don't see Kung fu masters in the UFC maybe some elements or a move or two are used every now and then, but Kung fu is kind of obsolete when it comes to boxing, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu jitsu, wrestling, etcetera. Despite what the movies would have you believe. Now I'm sure I'm gonna get the argument "a true Kung fu master would never stoop so low as to join cage fighting" but how do you know that. In this vast world we live in there are many types of people who if learning Kung fu, would not take to its mantras and would show it off in the street and in the rings and such. This is why I buy DD being a better fighter, that and he needs something to be relevant. (Ps this is coming from a guy who wasted years on Kung fu to get my ass handed to me, now I just do mma, and Kung fu is a great skill set to have, the discipline, health and whatnot, but from a pure fighting stand point, it's not that good.

Kung fu is like colonial warfare while MMA is like modern gorilla warfare. There's rules that correlates with honor and dignity Kung Fu fighters imposes on themselves that doesn't apply to sports like MMA or street fights.
360nohope I said this in the other thread but here it goes again. The way I see it, JKD was Bruce Lee's attempt to strip Kung Fu of its im-practicalities. MMA does the same.
However, I chalk up Danny losing to Matt more to Matt's superior awareness and emotional control. I'm sure Kun Lun style King Fu would look oddly familiar yet alien to a Shaolin practitioner but when you're fighting a well trained fighter who can sense your every move before you make it, losing your cool will hinder you more.

I think iron fist will probably have a good second season, Finn is a good actor and Netflix/marvel tend to listen to critics. I also think that they've got a lot of the backstory out the way so they can leave him to kick ass.
Plus he's got his yellow and green colours now.
I think I like the daredevil dynamic they made because really, if you compare his powers to that of the rest, they're not nearly as stunning or useful really. So giving him experience and an edge in fighting I think is really smart and cool.
The criticism for Iron Fist is a little much now. It is warranted in many areas especially in his own series, but his character in the Defenders was at worst *fine* .Danny multiple times was the only character willing to see the big picture, move the plot along, tried to work with others even when they refused, and he also compromised on his own beliefs at least a handful of times. He took what Luke said about him having other means than fist fighting and took his advice. He listened to Colleen when she said they needed allies and defended those allies when Colleen felt like they were a burden. I see no criticism on Matt's side for putting the entire group in jeopardy not once, not even twice, but three times over a personal connection that he and Stick kept hidden. Danny is naive and ill tempered at times but that is where he as a character is supposed to grow from. All of these characters had flaws in their own series and this one, IF just gets the bulk because of the poor way his character was handled in his series and how he's basically the driving force of this war, meaning he's a focal point.

cityu english Well to be fair, and I know I'm gonna get hate for this but, Kung fu in real life isn't that effective compared to mixed martial arts (which DD seems to have a variation of). A lot of Kung fu moves are too flashy and waste too much movement for not enough damage. There's a reason you don't see Kung fu masters in the UFC maybe some elements or a move or two are used every now and then, but Kung fu is kind of obsolete when it comes to boxing, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu jitsu, wrestling, etcetera. Despite what the movies would have you believe. Now I'm sure I'm gonna get the argument "a true Kung fu master would never stoop so low as to join cage fighting" but how do you know that. In this vast world we live in there are many types of people who if learning Kung fu, would not take to its mantras and show it off in the street and such. This is why I buy DD being a better fighter, that and he needs something to be relevant. (Ps this is coming from a guy who wasted years on Kung fu to get my ass handed to me, now I just do mma, and Kung fu is a great skill set to have, the discipline, health and whatnot, but from a pure fighting stand point, it's not that good.
It's common knowledge among practitioners that Kung-Fu is not as effective as the mainstream movies wants you to believe. Only casual fans really believes that Bruce Lee was a superhuman for example, also other fighters who wants to say popular things just to appeal for the public. And saying that, netflix committed a big mistake with the actor, he is a misscast, plain and simple. Even if they forced the issue, showboating kung-fu as the greatest martial art that can defeat anything and etc.. Even with this gimmick, I don't think the public would accept that actor. He doesn't have any charisma.

Also, the actor isn't miscast. If you see him in interviews, he acts almost exactly like the comic version of Iron Fist. It's the writing, plain and simple.
There is no guy doing american television that could do good Kung Fu fight scenes and still act. Everyone only shits on him, because his character should be the best fighter, but really, they all can't fight and all the fight scenes are just unimaginative punching with lots of cuts, except for 1 fight per season of Daredevil.
