    I am 45, and have "retired early" to move to Mexico with my husband (who is Mexican), and have opened a little store, a bilingual academy, and couldn't be happier!

      Hello Emily, how's your school going? I've been teaching English for nonnative adults for 26 years. I live in Japan, and I may be taking a short contract in India, but I plan to move to Mexico. Any advice from you is well appreciated. I will have to continue to work. I'm so looking forward to it. Hay tanto que hacer, in a good way. :)

    Nice interview with Carol... This whole idea of uprooting and moving to another country was perfectly summed up with her answer, "what's the worst that can happen, if you don't like it you can move back." Less than 13 months and counting until retirement...

      stitchergary .. what's the worst that can happen? 13 months to try it out?.. People go out to work and get kill on the bus, rape, kidnap.. that is in less than a day.. Don't count on the law to help. They do the same.. People here is doing business. They profit from it.

      I had been in Ajijic 3 years ago, was victim of crime! I am still disabled. However plan on moving down there in the nearest future. Perhaps you can assist me in finding a rental Ajijic seems to be a total Amerindian colony.! I could spend up to $700.00a month ,

    I relocated to Jamaica and I love it. Dont't believe all the hype. Where I live is safe. The food, beaches, rainforests and so much to do. I love it and everyone speaks english. Beautiful country and people. I like Mexico too.

    It was so helpful to hear the viewpoint of a single woman. I have been looking for "my place" for a long time and it always seems things are geared for couples who want a lot of recreational activities. I just want to live a quiet, simple, comfortable but not luxurious life as inexpensively as possible. Hopefully with good conversation and delicious, simple food.

    I moved to Ajijic and I am 74 years old. I rented a house with a yard and brought my dog. Many many people, especially from CALIF are moving here. Housing not always easy to find, but it is there. We are in the rainy season and being from Southern CA, I love it.

      Ruth Maloney - Thank you for sharing :o) I am an occupational therapist with years of experience in school and geriatric settings, I plan to retire in 803 days, when I'll be 66. You give me hope that I could move to Ajijic and perhaps help out in those areas :o) Helping others, Mexicans and Americans alike, regardless of it all, while living there sounds just right! Thank you :o)

      Yes, Ajijic , I’m moving there in July. Selling my car, in LA , going to car max,supposed to be easy, my Honda Fit was manufactured in Japan so not allowed in Mexico. And will save on dumb insurance and storage as well. Been in Airbnb,s for the last 4months. So hereI go, anyone out there, help! I’m going to get a 1 year lease and settle in Ajijic. It may be hard to find a $500 range apt. But This is the life I want, people are so sick and Not retired in states.

    I just found you! I'm really loving these tours. I'm a bit charged up to come down and see this fabulous place. Not the first time it's crossed my mind to retire there among the healthy produce. I have not moved out of the US but am already considering myself as an EX. The GMO/glyphosate epidemic, the fluoride and chem trailing is not the lifestyle I had in mind. Can you do a video on any welcome wagon tours for us tire kickers who won't be driving down? It's all so daunting.

      denise most of the ex-pats or maybe I should say 50% don't use a car down here. They take the bus, Walk or get a ride by a friend. Streets are little challenging because of the cobblestones but most people manage remember it's a village.

      yes alot of people are misunderstanding the video---she wasn't saying that was all her income a month --she has a financial advisor that told her if you can live on $1200 a month you can retire now......so she did in Mexico----obviously you couldn't barely live in the US with that income unless you share housing and even then its questionable.....

    Having viewed a few of these videos got me to think how useful this sort of information is to "We the People" of the USA. This due to what I have come to learn in regard to the future of what our lives will be like in the years to come in this chaotic nation. With out going into details on what I'm getting at here... Let me just say Jerry is on to a much needed source of information for us all, and has me now thinking how those with back-rounds in having been employed by State Department agencies, with knowledge on such matters would be doing their fellow-kine... a great service by sharing what is needed to migrate to such places, as here ... and otherwise !

    One day I was driving from Guanajuato and expected to stop over in Ajijic or Chapala area, but it was raining a lot and I had four teenagers in the car. I toured the area, but ended up traveling onward to return to Puerto Vallarta. My favorite places in Mexico would include Huatulco, Guanajuato and Puerto Vallarta but there's no question I could live almost anywhere in Mexico and enjoy being there. Some of the communities that are more primitive simply do not have the services and convenience we might like to have, so I prefer the communities with tourists or a university, etc., so the cultural options are a bit more available - we always want some stimulation in our lives!!

      Think positive. Get your swag on and meet a single woman down in Mexico. I am sure they're looking for a companion too. It's not as hard as it seems. Just make sure you're looking to be her friend first. I am already taken and I don't live in Mexico. No naughty stuff. And don't talk about your financial problems, women hate that! As long as your not a criminal, pervert or crazy guy, hopefully, things can work out fine. If you live in NYC and don't have no dough, you may never meet Jane. Jane has big ass bills. Thank you for the videos, Jerry & Laurie! I am 49 years old & thinking of relocating to Mexico. I'm from NYC & I currently live in New England; the weather is terrible on my health. I have Sjogren's Syndrome, RA, and sarcoidosis. I rarely get out of the house during the winter & I am always sick & in pain & very depressed. I want to move to Mexico ( I think it's beautiful & I love the culture) but I have a tiny budget; I only get 700$ US per month. I am putting out feelers to meet people who can help me move to Mexico. I am looking to rent a small 1 bedroom for at least 6 months with the idea of staying permanently.. I teach English (ESOL) . I have this dream that if I live in a warm climate & am able to eat healthy foods I will get better and have a better quality of life. I'm also an artist and a jack of all trades. If anyone has any helpful advice or support please comment back to me and we can take it from there. Thanks so much to you all.

    Dear Jerry, Thank you for your many useful videos. I am considering retiring in Mexico in order to finally afford to have horses in my life. Can you refer me to someone in the Chapalla Society who is a horseperson and could answer some specific questions I have. Thank you. Kathryn

    Thank you. Really interesting. Also, although one may be able to live on $1200 a month but the Mexican govt/immigration wants you to have at least double that for temporary resident status - otherwise visa runs

    • @JerryBrownTravels
      @JerryBrownTravels  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you need to qualify to live in Mexico by having a temporary visa or a permanent lease. A temporary visa you have to show an income of $2700 a month but that doesn't mean you have to spend $2700 a month you can do like our guest test done and lives on $1200 a month.

    Hi Jerry and Lori,
    I have an important question. From your videos, as well as a video by a Mexican immigration specialist, i am hearing that you'd need to prove about $2500 income to get a permanent resident status. But the videos of some people who have settled there state that these people are living on anywhere from $800 to $1200 a month. How are they able to live there with less than the country requires them to have? Or are they
    only staying on Temp visas?
    I am about to retire, but will only have Soc. Sec. of $998.
    Thanks,
    Sue

    • @JerryBrownTravels
      @JerryBrownTravels  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Excellent question Susan.
      First to get the correct information about temporary or permanent visas in Mexico please call the Mexican consulate in your area and ask them what the requirements are today because it varies.
      Now if you don't have enough money to qualify for a temporary or permanent visa. This is what you. Come down into Mexico and get a tourist visa that is good for 180 hundred or six months you will not have to show any income. So this way you can live down here on your social security.
      Now this is important this is very important when you get a tourist visa that is good for six months you will have to leave the country every six months and reapply for another six-month tourist visa. This is how people are living here on their social security if they cannot qualify for a temporary or permanent visa. Please call your Mexican consulate about the qualifications for a permanent or temporary Visa.
      Subscribe to our TH-cam channel and in in a few weeks I'll be posting information on visas.

    *IT IS BEYOND TOO EXPENSIVE* to retire in Canada anymore unless you have had the best luck throughout your life and were able to put a SOLID amount of money into a retirement portfolio, sadly many of us didn't have that kind of luck. The only way my husband and I can see having a retirement and not living eating cat food in the cold and dark is to find somewhere where our pensions would allow us to afford to live, and hopefully comfortably. We did some looking in to Belize - I think it is so beautiful but its quite hard to find people who are writing/doing videos with real information. People like us need to know about prices of food, do you pay utilities, prices of renting and buying... ALL THE BASICS WITH PRICES we would need to live. I never considered Mexico even tho we love it so much, we just assumed we likely couldn't afford to live where expats would be on our pensions, but your videos and information makes it sound like we could. Thank you for putting so much useful info in your videos! I have liked each one and share them many times over :) Thank you

    Hi Jerry, I'm a single man who is disabled, but I can walk short distances, and drive. I would to move to the Chapels area that you and Lori have shown, but am worried about being alone.Is there single women who may like to share expenses? I'm 60, and my income from SSDI is around $1300 a month, plus could sell or rent my home to help. Would my Medicare be accepted there? Thanks in advance, Jack

    • @JerryBrownTravels
      @JerryBrownTravels  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jack that's a Question most of the women here I looking for a sugar daddy.
      And Maybe you get around there's a lot of cobblestone streets and it's not wheelchair friendly. Also, you have to set up your own doctors here. Mexico does not have free health care anymore.
      If You could live on $1300 a month it would be very tight. You definitely will need to live in a Chapala, not Ajijic.
