    If it’s clotted cream, cream first but if it’s whipped cream jam first and a dollop of the whipped cream on top, as the whipped cream is too soft to spread the jam on! 😂😂😂

    To make clotted cream it is baked slowly in the oven and that is when you get the yellowish crust on the top of the cream . It's the bit that most people like the best. Jam and then cream for me. They say you should aways break your scone rather than cut it .

    Jam first for me. Milk first in a china cup, they used to do that to stop the cup from shattering with the heat of the boiling water apparently. Sandwich with no crusts and cut into fingers is the traditional English tea way Macaroons are made with ground almonds which is why you thought the taste was like marzipan. Looks very tasty 😋😍

    In regard to the tea/coffee and dehydration, while it's true that both coffee and tea technically have a dehydrating effect on you, it's completely negated by the liquid you're consuming when drinking the tea/coffee. So in other words, the liquid the caffeine makes you lose by drinking a cup, is less than the liquid you gain from drinking a cup.

    I actually did myself a little cream tea as a treat the other day and when I came to do my scone (sounds like cone), I couldn't even remember which way around I usually do the cream and jam lol. Some people say you put the cream first because it takes the place of butter but I say as it all goes down the same way it really doesn't matter does it? Black tea no sugar, I say scone, jam then cream, no butter,but if a fruit scone no jam or cream, just butter. Mum taught us no butter before jam on a scone or on white bread, too much dairy. £25 is good for afternoon tea, some hotels and restaurants charge almost £100 for 2 people. Even here in Australia they charge up to $100 for 2,and that's without the bubbly.👋💕🇦🇺

      @@betagombar9022 that's a great tip putting the jam on before the cream so the cream doesn't melt. I am definitely going to try that when I get the opportunity. Where I'm from we pronounce it "sgon" like its vanished lol! Exactly what a cream tea does when this fat lass has the opportunity 😄

    • @patriciaharris4971
      @patriciaharris4971 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      What you have are macarons not macaroons. A macaron is a meringue based sandwich cookie whereas a macaroon is a drop cookie made with shredded coconut. In Australia we call a cream tea a Devonshire tea (who knows why). We serve with whipped cream not clotted cream. As clotted cream is the consistency of butter it makes sense to put that on first. With whipped cream better to put jam first. I work in a tea room where our staple is scones with jam and cream. We pronounce it scon not scone. We also have a gluten free version. Your high tea looked great.

    The best afternoon tea I ever had was at enisborough House in Cheltenham. Huge selection of fruit/herbal teas, freshly cooked sausage roll and fresh hot focatia Mozzarella and pesto sandwich, then the normal usual sandwiches, then two!! Yes two!! Scones each (doesn't matter how you pronounce it or jam/cream first) then the cakes. We all had to take all the cakes home as we just didn't have any room left at all. I had booked a curry meal in the evening as didn't know what the afternoon tea would be like (it's was my first... I was a virgin!!) And I ended up taking most of the curry home cause was still full from the afternoon. Tea. 😁😁 now I make a point of having one now and then and we have some wonderful placed in gloucestershire to have them. ❤❤❤

    The only problem with having an afternoon tea is that you don't have any room for your dinner if you are staying there! Well in my case. Browns do an afternoon tea with optional champagne or cocktail, very nice.

    Looks lovely. Lots of debates, but those are not macaroons, they’re macarons (pronounced ‘on not oon). Macaroons are those coconut cone shaped things made at school, macarons are what you’ve just eaten, french and made with ground almonds, egg white and icing sugar. Quite tricky to make and either filled with chocolate ganache or buttercream. Also on the subject of pronunciation, Tim there’s no ‘k’ at the end of thing or something … other than that, he’s got a lovely BBC presenter voice 😆

    I never understood the difference between Devonshire cream and Clotted cream...they both taste the same to me....delicious. This is one British custom I adore.🇺🇸❤🇬🇧

    several reasons on why to put milk before tea. Coagulation factor ; it blends easier. From the old time they discovered that putting the hot tea into the milk prevented the china in breaking and the last one it keeps the cup more clean

    You both look fabulous!!! Thank you for sharing all your adventures.
    As I understand if you were from Devon it's cream first, then the jam while in Cornwall, they rather jam on before the cream. However neither use butter.

    Love the video. Those cakes look scrumptious. I would definitely have an afternoon tea, I don't think I could eat everything that was there. You both look great and are good together ❤
    I would have butter on my scone. It's dry without it. I would put jam on 1st, then cream, basically though, I just prefer a scone with best butter.

    Those cakes are macaron. They’re slightly different from a macaroon. I think the scones are a bit large and overcooked and I prefer plain ones with a cream tea. My personal preference is no butter, jam first then a dollop of cream on top but it looked lovely and you had plenty plus a takeaway box after so 👍
