i've seen many sites recommend going to a store to try on a few different brands to get a common consensus of size. I've measured from ankle to middle of knee, measure middle of knee to top of thigh (divide this number in half), and take your skate size. add all totals to get pad length suggestion. I'm 5'9", my measurements are 16" (ankle to knee), 16" knee to top of thigh (divide in half) is 8", and my skate size is 9. which gives me a rough length for pads being 33" short 34" tall. as mentioned with other pads or protection (knee braces, ice pants, etc) length will increase which I would get 34" length goalie pads.
ATK only gives a measurement that is used to estimate your pad size using reference ATK values. The size will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer since all pads are not built the same. For example, an ATK of 18 could mean you would fit in a 35" pad made by company A but for company B it would be a 37" pad. There is no real way to correlate ATK to pad size unless you have a way to reference it (ie. know someone with similar ATK or consult a database with this information). Hope this helps!
The measurement you will get from this (your ATK) does not directly give you your pad size. It has to be compared with goaltenders of the same ATK that have listed their pad size with make and model. (Hopefully manufacturers will change this eventually)
I decided I will try and build a database to help other goaltenders find their pad size with their ATK so please post your ATK, pad size and type in the comments section! Example: - with knee pads ATK=18.5" , Pads = TPS Summit PL 37"+1"

18.5 atk with Passau pro knee pads, but I'm in a set of Bauer XR8 37+1

thanks man tho helped a lot. when I'm buying my goalie pads, my size looks way way lower than the x+1 sizing. why?
Do you multiply it by 2 to get your pad size
i measured and it was about 19.5 inches. what pad sizing would that be?
