This game really shows how important psychology is in chess. Getting an unexpected draw offer can really catch you off guard, but in my experience having your own offer rejected is way worse. So even though it can make us insecure, I try to remember that declining in most cases does give me the psychological advantage. Imagining the opponent being like, "Oh no, she thinks she can beat me with only 4 minutes left, my position must be worse than I thought, is there something I'm not seeing?!"

I haven't played chess in 30 years at least. Not sure why but TH-cam suggested your channel to me a few weeks ago and now I am hooked. Great going, Anna. I really want to see you win!
Haha literally the same here!!
Yep i got back to playing some chess too.

I hope you started playing again !!
Welcome to the wild dramatic world of Chess TH-camrs
Don't regret about the draw. The three reasons you explain in the video really justify your draw offering
"I spent 30 minutes here, which was obviously completely stupid" - I came here today after watching the live stream just to hear you say this line. This is brilliant. I believe that in the past you would have tried to justify the time spent, and not fully connected this with the time pressure that you ended up in. And yes G takes is the better of the 2 moves, but neither move is even remotely bad, and so blowing 30 minutes on the position is what cost you the game, which is the one thing I didn't hear from you here that I would have liked to. But this report on the game feels like a REALLY positive step forward for you in your self assessment, and hopefully in your confidence in yourself going forward. Well done!! (And big up to Pia for keeping your confidence up after you came off and saw that you were ahead when you offered the draw. Even you realising that the only reason you offered a draw was because he had previously is great self awareness.)
👏👏👏👏👏👏 Tied for first, that can;t be bad!!
You seem to feel like it's so unnatural for you to be in a winning position. You are a great player, it's not weird for you to find yourself having the advantage. Keep at it, sky is your limit Anna!
Probably because she grew up playing against 2 GMs, her parents. I'd imagine they win a lot more than they lose.

When you compare Anna's content to other streamers, she just shines way brighter. Classy content with easy commentary and her amazing mom (with surprising amazing commentary as well). Thanks for sharing the amazing games Anna!
Anna is a great example of what good parenting does. Not in chess level but quality of human. Those who know, know.
Yeah, if you’ve watched a lot of Anna streams, her wholesomeness and kindness (and bubbly happiness) shine through.
I love the new format of dramatic retelling of Anna's chess matches.
It's not new....she pulled me in with this format during a tournament a year or so ago. She has several tournaments you can view here.
Draw was good here but I feel that the draw comes because the time pressure due to the 30 min thinking of the G3 move. Seem to be a common situation that you spend a bit too long time thinking on one specific move.
You and Pia have done an incredible job. It was very exciting to watch this game. The draw was a strategic decision
Damn I haven't watched the game yet ...

You've done an incredible job. Wishing you further luck in your future tournaments.

Great recap. Hope the rest of the tournament goes well for you
Go Anna! You content is really appreciated. Happy new year belatedly.
You know what else I love? Pia saying, "No, Anna, you're better!" That's the support of a Grand Master Mom.
And Facts.
i think pia was just saying she had the better positions. i don't think she meant anything beyond that.
That's literally just chess terminology my dude. It means Anna's position was better and therefore she shouldn't have drawn.
I understand about chess terminology and all that, but it was encouragement against self doubt, and I still give her the credit. It was in the context of a game. I've coached many seasons of girls and womens soccer, and that sort of positive reinforcement, particularly when a player hasn't sensed it themselves, and it comes from someone who knows, has materialized into a greater performance, always. I'm not talking about "everybody gets a trophy" but unlocking potential those individual players didn't have the confidence to see themselves. And that accurate instruction, as reported to me later privately by parents, has materialized positively in many realms beyond soccer, academically and personally.
That was my point, too, takumi, that Pia's comment was in the context of that particular game and play. See above for my further explanation/explication. What I said is not in opposition to your comment. My perspective is the result of decades as a university/academy/club soccer coach (and previously a player at those same levels). It's just a recognition that reinforcing a player's correct decision in a game when they are in doubt encourages them to accurately see their own assets and capitalize on them.@@takumi2023
Anna I am cheering for you! Hope you win the tournament!! All the best 🍀
I really appreciate your frank descriptions and evaluations of your internal thoughts (good and bad) while playing. Thank you for being so open.
your mom analyzing your chess matches is as good as any analyst covering any sporting event ... thank you ... thank her ...
Her mom, some time ago was World Nr 1 in women's chess. And she is still very strong. She IS as good as any analyst, actually better than a lot of them.
@@wolfgangbrait3716 Her analysis is excellent indeed. Although I do wish she would feel comfortable being quiet between some of her sentences so the listener also gets a chance to let everything sink in. 😉 But hey, that is the charm.
Totally. Her mom's the best.
jesus christ! i thought i was listening to a bare knuckle boxing match; which it was
Her descriptions reminded me of Howard Cosell covering an Ali vs. Fraiser fight ...
Keep going Anna we are all cheering for you!
Good luck for the next round!
You've got this, Anna ! 😊👍
These OTB tournament recaps and analysis are my favourite Chess content on TH-cam. I love playing in person OTB tournaments and my chess club in Melbourne is great but in Australia the chess scene is still a bit young. I really enjoyed when Levy played and covered his last OTB tournament. Aman did a great series where he played an OTB competition. Anna has been doing this style of video the best recently and I love her commitment to playing more tournaments. I'll be supporting her success.
Best of luck Anna! May the time be on your side! 😊 You are amazing!
Anna, you are doing fabulous! The fact that your opponents go against their usual openings indicates their respect for you.
Good luck and very nice summary of the games you are doing. I really enjoying them.
Good luck! This is some of my favorite content you’ve done, keep it up and I look forward to the next update.
Love the content! Looking forward to the next games. Even if they end up is losses, keep up the energy! We're going to enjoy the recap either way. Best of luck!!😁
Good luck, Anna! ¡Éxitos!
You’re playing beautifully in this tourney, Anna! Good luck in the next game!
Great video Anna and best of luck for the rest of the tournament !!!
2:03 you're not alone Anna. As a d4 player myself I've always hated the Grunfeld
Your commentary is so insightful, engaging, and honest. I love what you're doing. Keep it up and good luck!
I'm really enjoying your videos. Best of luck, Anna!
Good Luck from a Swede following you from Canada!

I`m in chess since quite recently, and I`m soooo proud to discover this channel! I couldn`t even imagine that chess content can be that addictive 😍 Thanks for everything you do, Happy New Year and good luck on the tournament ❤
Good luck Anna. Be proud of yourself of what you achived so far in you life as a chessplayer. More good moments for you will come.
Best of luck Anna! You are a skilled, capable chess player, enjoy the conquest.
Good luck Anna for your upcoming matches
Anna your combination of playing with your mom's commentary and then doing the retrospective sharing your thoughts is amazing. I think that you are correct that it exposes you to more preparation but they always underestimate your primary strength which is creative thinking under pressure. I agree that you thought a little long on the one move mostly because you doubt how good you really are lol but consider that at the start there always seems to be a relaxed atmosphere where folks are not concerned about time but if you consider every second is precious from the start, don't be a second late and use your opponents time to clean glasses etc. maybe it recovers a few extra minutes for the end game. Worst case try giving yourself a 15 min limit and then trust Anna by going with what you think is best because you are instinctively a great player. I love watching you play and hearing your comments and thinking, you are an amazing ambassador for chess. I haven't played in years but have been playing puzzles almost daily since watching you and recently even best a 1400. Thank you for sharing your energy and passion.
Good job on the game, Anna and great decision-making. All the best for the final 3 games, you got this!!!
Good luck Anna can't wait to watch
Good luck Anna. Great recap. I think you defintely made the right choice, offering the draw given the time situation.
Your mom has the best commentary. I just love how passionate she is.
Nice done, Anna! Good luck in the next game!

I couldn't wait for this game and recap, so I watched the already uploaded stream with your mom this morning. Gosh, it was exciting! And now I was really looking for this recap, thanks Anna for this top quality content!
PS: Pronoucing his name was quite ok ;)
So far shenanigans and punchy lines are delivering quite well for you. Keep it up!

Keep going Anna! You got this!!! 😁
This is getting interesting, Anna is clearly leveling up and a force to be reckon with
Don't know why exactly but your channel has become about my favorite chess channel lately. So many rich positions in your games, and taking the time (like how you play chess 😂) to explain your thought process through the different positions.
Also interesting to hear your mother's evaluation on the other channel. Really supporting your quest to a new Master norm. Keep it up!
Good luck with all your games!!
Thanks for your analysis
Good luck! Go get them!
Good luck for the remaining games Anna!
Good luck Anna! You can do this!! ❤
Hi Anna, i really want to see you win the tournament. I wish you the best of luck!!!! But if not, you have gained something else -> at least one new fan! I enjoy your love for chess. I haven't played chess in years, but your enthusiasm is so contagious, i can't wait for your next video and even started playing again myself. Thank you so much for being my favorite Chess player in the world! Go Anna 🤘🏻
omg, I had no idea that momma Cramling commentates your matches. I'll be looking for more of Pia's cheering!
Great video, thank you for the content!
Better luck next match Anna! You’re in pretty good shape. Wake up refreshed loving what you do!
Wish you luck - was never ever expected to follow someone playing chess on TH-cam. But I do now since several month. Right mixture of entertainment and learning tactics thinking while watching... and your mom is amazing - always thinking when is she breathing while commenting - great parents :)
Listening to you lifts my mood ☺ I'm very grateful 🌅 Wishing you luck 🍀

Anna thanks for sharing your thoughts on the game. Wishing you all the best 😊
I love watching your videos. You rock.
well done Anna, be awesome if u win it, you are doing an great job
Good luck Anna!
It looks like your studying payed off, really nice tournament so far. Good luck for the other rounds
Good luck on the next game .. much love ❤❤❤
You are rocking it! Keep that strong positive mindset and do what you are doing and you will take all the rest of the points for the win.
Your reason for accepting the draw was completely right. Self-recognition of your psychological state, that you were seeing ghosts and such, is a powerful tool for making a good decision. The difference in remaining time was also a big factor favoring you taking the draw. I'm surprised he offered the draw with you having so little time.
Anna is so great at making complicated things understandable
I do hope that you have a clear mind, feel confident and empowered as you play! Best of luck to you!!
You go girl!!! You got this...Thanks for sharing and teaching as you share. I'm learning to play and really enjoy your commentary. BTW, were you the Anna that had the issue with the shoes? Sorry if it was. Didn't realize that they gave you a competitive advantage...........
These tournament vids have been great, and love when your mum makes a cameo. :)
3:38 I want to explore what could happen if your bishop took that black d4 pawn. But I can't think far enough ahead about the possibilities.
It is like I have to train my mind to see the board after 2 or 3 moves have been played, before they are played.
To be able look at a future board position, with pieces in place where they are currently not in place, so you can analyze the near future positions, is a skill IMO that separates the best from the rest. Again Bobby Fischer called it, "Seeing the board in you Minds Eye" on a TV interview, (before moves are made but as they will have been made, so you can analyze the new position on the fly).
I love your tracking the tournament for us. I am also greatly impressed by your mother! She seems to know immediately what the best moves are. I guess that's the difference between a GM and me (my rating has lapsed from many years ago, but I would guess I am about 1500-1600).
Armchair analysis: work on your confidence, Anna. You are a great player. Believe in yourself and your instincts: Less time spent questioning yourself, being mentally undermined by your opponent when they play bad moves or offer a draw. So exciting to see your growth.
Yes Anna, letssss goooooo. Good luck 😊
Good luck Anna, you got this
Good decision and fun to see your process.
you carisma mixed you chess passion is a perfect combination!
I absolutely loved how excited your mom was😁 gl tomorrow!!
