Is OCEAN CAY the BEST Private Island in the Bahamas?? (MSC Cruises)

- Ocean Cay, MSC’s private island in the Bahamas, is the only private island we have not visited yet. So today is the day! First off, I LOVE that we have a very long day in port which is past sunset! Why can’t all the cruise lines do this?? We dock at 9 am and do not leave until 10 pm.
So we are able to leisurely get off the ship as we know we have plenty of time here. This is great so that we don’t feel rushed and there isn’t a mad dash of 4300 people trying to descend the island all at once! Looking at the island from the top of the ship, it seems small. But once you get off the ship it’s bigger than you think! Especially if you walk all the way to North Beach which is the furthest point from the ship.
We decided to rent a cabana for the day. This was a fabulous decision! And the price was not bad at all!! Pre-booking we were able to get the cabana for $250. This is a lot less than other cruise lines on their private islands! And we had some friends with us and we split the cost so it was only $125 per couple. This is definitely the way to go!!
The island is beautiful and well laid out. There are several beaches to choose from and the further away you get from the ship, the less crowded they become. For food, there is one large buffet at the center of the island but also many food trucks serving burgers, hotdogs and fries all over. So this was the best option for us on North Beach. For drinks, the bars are plentiful! And if you have a drink package, it does extend to the island.
Around 5 pm, most of the island shuts down and only the beach near the ship and the lighthouse is open, along with the Lighthouse Bar. This will stay open until the all aboard is called for the ship. We enjoyed this area as well as swimming right next to the ship is a pretty cool experience. And most everyone had gotten back on board so it was not busy at all.
We got back on the ship for dinner at Ocean Cay (yes the specialty dining seafood restaurant onboard carries the same name as the island) and then back off for the 8:15 lighthouse show. It was really cool and unique to a private island. I have seen the projections at Disney, etc, but not even at Castaway Cay. In between lighthouse shows in a beach party... if you are so inclined. We were wiped out from being in the sun all day so called it a night. We definitely enjoyed our day here!

Ocean Cay is by far my favorite private island. My last cruise, we were there for over 24 hours, I really liked that. I like that only one ship at a time docks there. Makes for a very relaxing experience. The Yacht Club section is really nice as well. Private beach, restaurant and bar. Maybe we could do a group cruise with MSC sometime. Just saying.

i just went to south beach and found a nice couple trees and was lucky to have shade for the day. Ocean cay was a great place to just relax and swim, also did shipwreck snorkling. My only complaint was to get drinks was a bit of a walk. if they add more water and drink stations would be awesome.

We went to Ocean Cay when it first opened in December 2019 so nice to see how it has evolved since then must get back soon ☀️ back then too it was a really nice private island for adults for a relaxing and free (if you have drinks package) chill beach day!! I like that it doesn’t have big waterparks like Coco Cay, it’s a different vibe so hard to compare but we really enjoyed that

WOW that private island looks amazing! We are BEACH people all the way. I noticed your sun burn as the day progressed! That black cod looked yummy, love fish as well. ok the night life on the island is kicking it.. looked busy.. very cool.. now i need to add this to my already long list of cruise stops.
We spent 2 days at Ocean Cay. It was kind of neat spending the night. We were lucky that we had a starboard side balcony. The first day, we spent the day at Ocean Cay lagoon where we rented an umbrella. $14/day. The second day we spent at Bimini beach and it was quiet. I fell asleep. We found a tree to camp under for some shade. We ate at the buffet on day one and at the little blue shack you were filming on day 2. The difference? At the buffet, you have more salad options, other items to choose from besides a burger ("jerk" chicken, hotdogs) and more dessert options. You also had a drink station with water, lemonade, sodas and beer. Speaking of which, I'm a Mich Ultra drinker and never had a problem getting one while on the island.

Ocean Cay looks pretty. The water looks so clear and blue😍 Plenty of time there too. I dislike short days on ports especially on private islands. I am not a fan of Tuna either!!! The ship looks pretty I haven’t cruised MSC yet. Thanks for sharing. ❤

Yes I love msc ocean cay. Snorkel right next to ship near rocks on shore. Free food buffet on island but times are limited during lunch. Some areas in beach need water shoes.
Well that island looks so idyllic and the option to stay into the evening was good too.
Great beach area that’s about the beach vs a water park.
Btw given it’s a single ship docked just to mitigate a lot of food waste & spoilage, I think it’s okay to have a beach buffet for lunch with the understanding that most guests will head back to the ship by the mid afternoon to get cleaned up for Dinner and to enjoy the Light Show & maybe the evening Beach Party.
Btw did you ask to have your Fish sides like the Olives switched out for something else?

We just spent 2 days there. It was great! South beach on the lagoon was the BEST! There is a lot of natural shade, no need to rent a cabana. The lagoon is very calm and pleasant for swimming. Food is great.

great review, loved seeing it all. I am not a fan of the look of the food at the Ocean Cay specialty dining... it looked "ok" but I was expecting it to look spectacular. I know I didn't get to taste it, but just what I saw it looked a little underwhelming. I am glad you guys really seemed to enjoy it though!

We were there in June on the Seascape. I thought that North Beach island was for Yacht Club members. Didn't even try to go there.
I've heard nothing but good things about MSC's private island.

How did you manged to get the drone footage? I was under impression drone is not allowed on board the cruise and you are not allowed to fly drone in Ocean Cay?

Are you able to request things be left off dishes in specialty dining, or is it even advisable?
I'm assuming modifications are out, but if I cannot stand a certain thing (like beets, or olives) are you allowed to omit?
Oh yeah, they can modify dishes as they are made to order. It was really delicious.
are the food trucks on the island complimentary
A group of us went prior to the Covid outbreak so 2020 and we enjoyed the island but the island was very new, small baby plants & trees and I don't think there was transportation to shuttle around. We had a cabana and it was great, we all pitched in so it wasn't bad in price.
What we all agreed on that we didn't like about ocean cay was how everything closed early. I think everything even closed earlier than 4pm when we went. We all were disappointed about that and they didn't make a big deal about letting people know they shut things down. So if you want to rent any ocean toys you need to make sure you plan for it to get your money out of it.

Virgin Voyages' Bimini Beach Club is the best private island cruise experience! They also have a pool party at night with bonfires.

There’s a great(for a fee) seafood truck before you get to the YC area
If you have 2 days at Ocean Cay how does the cabanas work??
Do the cabanas have a place to lock up stuff when you are not in them?
Not that we saw but we could be wrong! We had some friends with us and for some reason we didn’t really look around the cabana too much.

Woohoo hair has sure grown a lot girl. Pretty primitive compared to Coco Cay but the water on Bimini Beach looks lushious. I don't go on any beach without my water socks.
I was on MSC this past weekend on their new ship. Came back Sunday morning with an amazing souvenir. Yup you guessed it COVID and boy this time it was so much fun. Tuesday night I enjoyed an endless night of low oxygen in my lungs and buckets of sweat. It's Friday and I still have this wonderful headache. Thanks MSC for being so understaffed that no one was cleaning the stairwells often enough. We had so much fun being forced to take them because of your new horrible elevator service. Can't wait to sail again with my COVID carrying friends onboard. 😊 Thanks MSC

@@SteveCrosd uhmmmm yeah I am because the staircase hand rails where full of handprints and a week on the cruise I saw only one person clean them once. They had no staff wiping down. The whole ship barely had any staff to begin with.
@rickyrick9501 it's airborne, it could have been anywhere in the cruise, didn't need to be on a surface. You're also in a small space with 1000s of people; infectious diseases can happen with or without covid involved.
Not to mention, since you noticed the hand rails were dirty, there were preemptive strikes YOU could have taken, like washing and sanitizing your hands before touching any bodily orifices. Cause and correlation are not the same thing frand😊

What are you talking about. Weed is illegal on any ship. They problem is New York. The ship will need to have a dry dock after leaving New York. If you seen what happened on or after your cruise it was disgusting. Jail was filled to the max. Had to kick people off. Don’t promote use of a illegal substance. What the heck????????
