@@TheHandyman1 Would that be an issue of water seepage under the tiles after a while being so humid down there mildew and other fungus? Just a curious question :P
I was not expecting sounds of nature while watching the World's #1 Handyman channel doing grout work on tile flooring. I heard what sounded like to me as a woodpecker peeking when you sped up the video doing your grout float work.
I think I’d have left the toilet in the shower. Had a camper like that once 😂. That’s the type of things you learn if you’re really into that secret society stuff. Nice video Handyman.
Noswaith dda. I’m from Wales and need to grout dark brown bathroom tiles. It’s only a small floor. I was going to fill using my fingers; wash with a sponge and finish, if necessary, with a dark brown grout pen. Would that be ok please?
Love your content, Handyman! Would be interested in hearing your thoughts in a future video on when a job is too big/time consuming to take on. Not sure if you face that situation often.
I used vinyl baseboards in my laundry room after I tiled the floor. I used a sealer under the baseboards as I installed each piece to make it water tight. The finished look matched the baseboards in the rest of the house. Just an idea.
Awesome Video HandyMan! Love trying to figure out what your saying when you flip into Alvin at Warp speed! Hilarious! Subscribed to Paige. Whew, she's got a ton of work ahead of her!
I get it, I do but why not a more focused initial application …slathering it all over the entire floor indiscriminately seems like it would make for a tougher cleanup
hello there. ty for the vid. I need to know how clean the grout line needs to be before you put in the grout. I think that on some of the tiles there is going to be mortar in the lines. As i lain the tile I took a putty knife to it. I was afraid that I would mess with the cohesion of the tile. Anyway. the tiles are almost dried enough to support me getting on the floor to apply the grout.
Question: the tile that's been in the house for the last 50 the grout doesn't crack or chip off ever.. HOWEVER someone install some tike in my house last year and it's cracking already. The floor got wet and it really cracking down. Why is 50 years old grout not cracking at all and 1 year old grout cracking fast?
My lowes in pa finally restocked theirs. I think it's because they set up all the garbage glove and mask disposals with them and because they were using them to set up rope lines
A big fan of yours! Always look forward to your videos and humor! I about died when you responded to the overalls question. 😂😂 I wonder if the same person complained about the deer crossing signs being placed near the high traffic areas, wanting the deer to cross somewhere else where there wasn’t as much traffic.
Down in Mississippi, Lowe's and Home Depot both have plenty of buckets... No shortages here. Low cost of living too. You might consider retiring here once you have made your fortune.
I agree with Rob Roy I used to cut pine boards in a random shape with a jig saw then burn the wood with a blow torch and wire brush the burnt part away bringing out the grain I then stuck photographs onto the wood overhanging the wood I wood then feather the edges with a wire brush .I would then paint burnt amber around the edge and spray with clear plastic spray.I use a rubber pad clamped between two pieces of wood to to bring out the grain through the photograph.
I didnt know you had a pressure washing channel...southeast softwash is the channel... dude looks just like you. I think so especially at first glace..lol..have a good one
Do you ever use something like ammonia in the water to help cut the haze? I think it was ammonia we used back in the day and you just need a small amount
Please elaborate. I did I've been doing tile works for 10 plus years. I was taught by a union guy who went off on his own for many many years. I've never heard this please do tell. Not being fasicious genuinely looking for any new tip to the arsenal.
Do you ever get the most intense stomach pain while working bent over? Seems to be a thing for me, so much pain I go pale and start sweating. Anyone else have this happen making working bent over problematic?
Here is a tip for you, I use a small nylon bristle brush to pull any thin set out between joints before it dries. Then I am all ready to grout. Also random question do you head down to your sailboat in the summer? Just wondering.
We had a stopped up sewer in a brand new building. Found out when contractors cleaned up after their grout work they cleaned up and poured their unused grout down the floor drain.
THAT'S why the wooden baseboards in my bathroom look so moldy and mildewy. I knew there had to be a reason. :) I don't mop, I swiffer, if anything (I'm lazy. I just let the Roomba do it, and screw mopping altogether), but I wouldn't doubt the previous homeowners mopped occasionally, and of course: it's a bathroom. Super humid environment.
Got my coveralls--quite impressive considering the money--used them for two weeks while i restored some "one-of-a-kind" windows in an old mansion--also tried out that light box--i'll tell ya--its really scary watching myself on video
It's always nice when the client brings you a cold beer or cocktail. I have a question, please don't reach through the interwebs and slap me. Why do you grout all over the tiles instead of just grouting the joints? It seems like a waist of grout, plus the amount of time it takes to wipe up the grout that is all over tiles.
I do exactly that. I'm not a fast contractor. I'm slow, clean, efficient, and meticulous. If you go slow and are careful you can usually do it. Best to bear in mind though that is after many tile jobs and like someone else said it's quite a bit trickier to get with 12 × 12 tiles.
It's also just better practice to sponge the whole tile if you are new to tile. There may be some thinset, dust, or pencil marks on the face. I use a rubi bucket and sponge and it cuts the time drastically. A good grout job and cleanup will hide the imperfections (horrible to say but truth).
Grout control to Major Tom... Take your glucosamine pills & put your kneepads on. 10. 9. 8... I'm stepping on the floor And my float is floating in a most peculiar way. And the people want to know whose shirts you wear. Time to clean the floor tile if you dare... (You spacey, HM 💫 :)
I just swear that you said in the speed it up voice per portion it about a minute 35 that it smelled like donuts in there! I'm sure I was mistaken right?
Heads up! Prism comes with sealer already in it. If your not careful. You will be on you new tile floor with a belt sander to take it off...lol Just kidding a paint scraper will work also
Wow - this is a slow way to do it. You need a "Washboy" - they use them in Europe - originally from Germany. A bucket with built in rollers. You have two floats - the rubber one and the sponge one to wash off. Much faster.
Best video yet. Loved how you talked through installing the toilet before the baseboard, but nothing tops, "when people ask me how I keep material from transferring to the car or the next job? I just want to reach through the screen and slap the..." Great video!

6:50 shouldnt you have worked your way to the door? :P
You have the same cup that Paige is drinking out of? 🤔
I did work my way to the door. no grout under the cabinets I ran out.
@@TheHandyman1 Would that be an issue of water seepage under the tiles after a while being so humid down there mildew and other fungus? Just a curious question :P
Not an issue here. It might be an issue on the east coast with wet basements.
Grout and wipe 1 section at a time so the grout is easy to wipe off and not dried on tile
Thank you for the debris tip, that reminds me to vacuum the area well. Thanks again for the upload
Grouting my first floor in my house. Thanks for all the tips! I'm going to need them.
LMBO in rare form today Handyman! I feel ya on all of those points
I felt that way too. Had a chip on his shoulder and I found it refreshing.
One of the earliest things my dad made me learn how to do was grout. This brings back me back...
Lmao. “You can always work it with your finger if you need to”. I love your videos Handyman!
I like the shower toilet. Looks like it would save some time when getting ready in the mornings for work.
Yes it does. I bought one of those prison toilets with the sink on top of the toilet so I can do it all in one step.
Awesome! Love the high-speed whistling, too! Thanks!
WOOT WOOT! Heck yeah! New video on the No. ONE Home Improvement TH-cam Channel... In the world....
Love the beard. Thats what a handyman should look like......Just finished my floor in the bathroom. Thanks for your video that helped with my success.
Your edited comments are priceless!

You are welcome!

That is a good topic for my other channel.
Ha! I just grouted my bathroom floor. Waiting for the haze for third wipe. I shoulda waited ...
It's the way it's been done for 1000s of years I was taught this way from an Italian family that does floors for a living it's the way it's done ok

At 04:20 funniest thing I've ever heard
There are no stupid questions. Only stupid people.
Agreed
With those big ass baggy coveralls you could put knee pads underneath!! 🤓🤓. Ps. Love your videos.
True! 👍
I have bad knees, is there a float with broom like handle, I can use while standing?
I get it, I do but why not a more focused initial application …slathering it all over the entire floor indiscriminately seems like it would make for a tougher cleanup

Hi thanks for the demonstration. What is with the "tiler's holiday" at the door entry?
Handyman video ! Excellent.

10:30 "ductile" I believe is the word you were looking for.
@ The Handyman What kind of light were you using?

Sounds like they didn’t use enough mortar or thinset underneath the new tile so the tile are shifting when you walk and it causes the grout to crack
GOOD JOB HANDYMAN!!
Why the small cuts against the walls?
I noticed that immediately
My lowes in pa finally restocked theirs. I think it's because they set up all the garbage glove and mask disposals with them and because they were using them to set up rope lines
Thanks! Very informative

Thanks for the great videos

How long after installing tile to start grouting?
24 hours
Nice entrance! 👍

Good video man. Thank you.
Production stopped in China for 2-3 months. That's where everything is made. There is going to be a supply issue for a while.

Errr see a doctor

Excellent work handy man! Found your channel a few days ago and ive been hooked, you do very good work and make amazing content!

Sold it
Woo hooo! Party in the basement.
I don't think I've ever seen tile baseboards. Interesting idea though!

Love da humor handyman
We're gonna need more videos. 4 per week. 😁
Grouting with no gloves is intense! No knee pads either.
Really nice grout technique, I'm sure it looks great in person.
If you look closely he is wearing knee pads at first then he explains why he is not using them while grouting, pay attention
Is that a Ryobi tool ??

Plastic baseboards. They make them for bathrooms and looks just like wood trim but is water resistant.(only comes in white though)
Excellent
Thank you big help

It is unavoidable.
Maybe if the tiles were huge, you could sort of avoid the center of the tile, but even then...
I do exactly that. I'm not a fast contractor. I'm slow, clean, efficient, and meticulous.

Ryobi impact?
Just started grouting for the first time a few days ago and I gotta say it sucks big time. Wish I never started it 😂
We may watch, but he LISTENS!
Grout control to Major Tom...
Take your glucosamine pills
& put your kneepads on.
10. 9. 8...

And my float is floating
in a most peculiar way.
And the people want to know
whose shirts you wear.
Time to clean the floor tile
if you dare...
(You spacey, HM 💫 :)
I had a guy work for me once upon a time, he ran grout that same way, only his speed up wasn’t a frame rate kinda thing
Mother nature's kneepads... cartilage!!! Lmao 😂🤣😂
So just water and a sponge 3 times???
No knee pads?? I knew a pro tiler who did that and eventually wore out holes in his knee-caps. Bad idea. Wipe the pads off easy piesy.
whats the secret
got the hat and shirt
waiting for the magic
I just swear that you said in the speed it up voice per portion it about a minute 35 that it smelled like donuts in there! I'm sure I was mistaken right?
Those high speed audio spots are for members of the secret society only.
It would not fill everything and by the time you only stick it in lines the rest will be dry as long as you use ur float you won't be wasting much
I wished you would show a perfect grout line and grout lines that are low and need to be filled. Close ups.
What you really need is...
Knee pads and a washboy.
With a washboy you could wash that floor once and it be done.
Have clean knee pads.
Nice
Thanks for the video. I especially like the part where you have to do the touch up on the grout.
Heads up! Prism comes with sealer already in it. If your not careful. You will be on you new tile floor with a belt sander to take it off...lol Just kidding a paint scraper will work also

You really have to make a troll clip about the basement contractors who still live with mom.
There’s a vinyl baseboard available.
Neat Heat.
Why not wear knee pads under the coveralls?
My favorite part is when you whistle in fast motion.
Is that a fart? 8:26 😂
4:06 considering how lazy people are nowadays it might as well be a secrete society - hard honest work.
Guess this works if youre working for yourself and you can take 8 hours... better grout the right way and have it done perfect in an hour if not
It would help! If your camera is up close!! Not far!!
like the toilet in the shower look...eliminate two things at once and come out nice and refreshed....
The whistling lol
I know the feeling all too well
Wtf is up with the random Ryobi impact doing sitting on the vanity at end of video??
