Pink Floyd were formed in 1965 and are one of the most successful rock bands of all time. Formed by Syd Barrett, Roger Waters, Nick Mason and Rick Wright. Within a few years Syd Barrett was dumped (although his influence continued to ripple through the band for decades to come) and David Gilmour had joined. They broke it huge in 1973 with the release of the album 'Dark Side Of The Moon' which is one of the highest grossing albums ever, selling over 45 million copies to date and spending over 1,700 weeks in the Billboard top 100. It's estimated that 1 in 14 Americans under the age of 50 own the album. Needless to say, the band are steeped in music history. This track is from the highly successful 1979 album entitled 'The Wall'. The first person you hear singing is Roger Walters with David Gilmour coming in second and also playing that awesome guitar. The live version of this track from Pink Floyds 'Pulse' tour, features and extended final solo which is widely regarded as one of the best guitar solos in rock history. Live 'Pulse' Version: th-cam.com/video/vi7cuAjArRs/w-d-xo.html Pink Floyd are a progressive band and as such their songs often have a more complex (i.e. interesting) structure, odd time signatures, unusual arrangements and strong lyrics. Also, many of their tracks blend seamlessly into the next, so It's well worth listening to the whole album in order to achieve a full appreciation of their music. This is difficult on TH-cam as videos offered as full albums are often individual tracks edited together poorly, with joins that fail to blend smoothly together like the original Vinyl or CD...but hey! you have to work with what you got. I'd recommend that you continue your Pink Floyd journey by listening to their albums in chronological order starting: not with their early works, but with the aforementioned Dark Side Of The Moon, followed by Wish You Were Here, Animals, then The Wall. Once done you can start delving into earlier and later albums, there are many treats in store. PF are one of those bands where your listening pleasure will be enhanced by a few minutes reading up on wiki prior to listening to an album or track, it also helps if you have the lyrics when listening for the first time. I’m turning 65 yrs old in December. When I was 19 I saw Pink Floyd perform Dark Side of the Moon in Madison Wisconsin. Those of us who were in our late teens at that time were so lucky to live in an era of such artistry. Pink Floyd and Led Zepplin rocked my world then and still do now, and it’s so great watching young people discover the music of the 60s-70s generation. I saw them in Chantilly on my birthday. There was a storm in the background, so you had the entire Pink Floyd experience, plus a full "Greek nature Gods pitching in" thing! Lightning and everything. :)
When l was a child l caught a fleeting glimpse out of the corner of my eye I turned to look but it was gone I cannot put my finger on it now The child is grown The dream is gone I have become comfortably numb I think most everyone at some time in their lives mourns the joy and simplicity of their childhood mind and longs to return to it. Its my belief that the younger you are, the clearer your memory is of the place of your origin which imho is heaven. That's the feeling you have as a small child. This verse of the song put that into words for me and is in my mind a great explanation of the peace I felt as a child. Many people, unfortunately turn to drugs to achieve a false sense of this peace that eventually brings about their ruin.
You’re gonna stroke out when you see what they do live. Eventually, if you continue your exploration of Pink Floyd, you will see live performances from their Pulse tour. Buckle up.
The lead guitar and the singer for the chorus is Dave Gilmour, rocker extraordinaire. Working your way through The Floyd canon is enriching. Their thought provoking lyrics, impeccable musical engineering, and imaginative soundscaping, I think is unparalleled by any musicians in centuries.
@@cherylbradley5356 As I said, "...the singer for the chorus is Dave..." Actually the part of the music written by Roger Waters, originally called "The Doctor" is sung by Roger. The music added to the song by Dave Gilmour, i.e., the chorus, is sung by Dave Gilmour. Of course, Dave Gilmour also wrote the 2 solos.
i'm so glad you mentioned David Gilmour's voice. everyone [rightly] drools over his exquisitely beautiful and emotional guitar work, but i've always loved his voice. he's still going as a solo act in his 70s and still doing live concerts. the things you really need to know about Pink Floyd are these. they're always even better live than when in the studio. the 'PULSE' concert 1994 is the fans' favourite. truly spectacular. also, some of their albums are 'concept' albums, where all the tracks are part of a whole album concept and it's best to hear those whole albums, as each track runs into the next. this song was from 'the Wall' album, which is a story, based on 2 members of the bands' experiences. lastly, never think you know what to expect from them. they'll always surprise you. they're truly an emotional roller coaster ride. if you want to hear what is probably their most iconic song at it's best [live] you should check out 'Echoes' live at Pompeii 1971. enjoy the ride, bro.
Great Reaction, awesome to see that Pink Floyd has no era, They are timeless. Which brings me to what you should hear next. "Time" studio version w lyrics. Profound.
You'll do well and get your subs up with Floyd and Queen. I love that you mentioned the lyrics. Pink Floyd lyrics are never throw away, just to rhyme. They have meaning and they're poetry. When you're ready do some full Floyd album reactions. they're meant to be heard as albums. You'll be amazed.
“no one can bring such pure emotion from a solo.” I disagree. Stevie Ray Vaughan could do it too. Saw and heard him for the first time as an opening act for The Fabulous Thunderbirds. He blew me away. He was ONE with his guitar, and the music was coming from the heavens and flowing THROUGH him. He was electric! It changed me, and of course, I became a HUGE fan of his.

So many things to say about Pink Floyd. It’s just an amazing creative english group. They‘ve made lot of concept album. Let’s try the song from the Dark Side of the Moon : The Great Gig in the Sky -> it will touch your heart and your soul. Xavier from France
Welcome to Pink Floyd, my friend!! Their music is beautiful and epic and I literally cannot go a day without listening to some Pink Floyd. I hope you listen to more. Peace
This is one of the smoothest ballads of all time. Pink Floyd is great and they did some rockers too. Try the song One Of These Days from their album called Meddle. This group also owns the third biggest selling album in US history. It is called The Dark Side Of The Moon and has sold over 45 million copies so far! It is a concept album and should be heard from start to finish for full effect. Your headphones won't want to come off your head till it's all over.

I used to get really messed up listening to this, I swear to god you see things you never thought possible. One of the best moments of my life that was surreal was staring into the stars laying in the grass with this playing while I was super toasted...it waqs like I was floating amongst the stars. Amazing.
When this album came out it was fairly common to hang out with friends on a weekend night,, pass a bottle of wine ( or whatever your choice of relaxation was) and listen to the whole album. Good times.
I love seeing you react to these guys for the first time I was sitting around with my friends with the volume turned up and using the album cover to roll on almost 50 years ago hee hee
I feel like old people always say. ..that was the greatest music!!! But they were right all along . And remember no Internet or nothing... just pure talent...
Listen to the song or, better yet, the entire album without interruption. Albums by PF you need to check out are Wish You Were Here and Dark Side Of The Moon for starters.
You haven't experienced this song until you see the live Pulse Concert version. You might want to turn the music up or your voice down a bit for better balance.
FYI, that smooth voice and guitar player is David Gilmour, who I LOVE. I got to see Pink Floyd (which is a band) in concert, and they sounded exactly the same when playing live, and that’s amazing! They blew me away! Yes, the lyrics are very poignant, and they are about band member Syd Barrett, who lost his mind. That guitar solo is famous! And considered one of the best guitar solos EVER! Unfortunately, you ended it before the guitar solo was done. 😔 And in case no one else said this, Pink Floyd was VERY popular with people who smoked pot. They would get stoned and groove to Pink Floyd. One of my fav Pink Floyd songs is “Learning to Fly.”
At Tampa in ‘94....a 19 year old Pink Floyd fan gets to see them in concert for the first time. During Gilmour’s last solo in this song - a post in the middle of the stadium turned into a giant spinning disco ball reflecting rays of light back into the audience. And that’s how the night ended. It was very “special” to see them live, no doubt.
This was my song & album for getting high & relaxing into my buzz. Was also good for coming down off of acid..just sitting in my bean bag chair & chilling out..
Nice reaction bro. If you liked this then you should 10000% do a reaction to the same song but the pulse live performance. It's a whole new level of emotion and incredible sound! 👍👍
I'm up waaaaaay past my bedtime but your reactions are awesome and the music you've posted is just pure class. Reading the comments I'm getting an education. Really great stuff here.
my dad always used to listen to pink floyd whilst cooking so i grew up listening to it too, it's nice to have on in the background of a chill sunday morning
Hey. Just wanted to say thanks for sharing this musical journey with us. As a middle aged guy from the UK who stumbled across this channel by accident, I’m thrilled to see someone as blown away by such great music as much as I was when I first heard it. I see you feature quite a lot of UK bands and its great to see a young guy with such an open mind to music no matter where from and what genre. Keep up the good work in bringing appreciation of great music to a new and younger generation.
Your reactions make me so very happy. To see someone you're age not only love this music but understand it. Also the fact that you do research and learn all you can about them is freaking awesome!! Kudos to you. You are one of my favorite reactors. Peace✌🤘
There are some great live versions and David Gilmour is still amazing - this is one of my faviourite ever songs - it is very sad though when you listen to the lyrics -its one of the songs you REALLY feel when you are feeling down - makes you feel less alone -it's about taking drugs to numb out the pain of life.
Pink Floyd is in a class of Rock called Album Rock. The reason is that you need to listen to the whole album, beginning to end to get the story that they are telling, especially the first listen. This song is off "The Wall" which is the story of a mans decent into madness.
My dad introduced me to pink floyd when I was... 12 or 13. I remember just being in my dark room and just forgetting the shit of my life at the time. Aaah, I love watching you explore some of the songs I grew up on 💖 it makes them like new again
oh no, another one has gone down the rabbit hole, what shall we do ??? I know, outlaw pink Floyd, yes that's it.......welcome to the Floyd, we want you here
The thing you miss listening to classic rock and roll for the first time is the meaning it had to the listener when it was first released. The country at that time, hell, the world, was a totally different place. Vietnam was happening, young people were still struggling to get out from under the thumb of big brother and make their voices be heard. Rock and roll was finally emerging as a legitimate genre of music that wasn't going to go away. And the music reflected the times and deep, emotional feelings of the younger generations. It's great that new generations get to hear classic rock and roll but also a shame that they don't get to share the feelings of those who lived through those times and the birth of that music.
Been feeling Pink Floyd for 45 years bruh!! One of the most famous guitar solos in history. Welcome to when music was for real. Love your reactions. Keep it up.
You will love Pink Floyd. The Wall is a must album to do. But to understand the songs, you will have to do the whole album. Live at Berlin 1991 would be a great concert to watch to really get the album even though different artists sing with the band.Dark side of Moon album is a must also.
Good times.
especially this song should be listened to in a live version, pleeeeaaase take this concert: PULSE 1994. probably best rockguitar solo of all time.
The smooth voiced man is David Gilmour. Also one of the greatest guitarist of all time🎸👌
hey great reaction, that's how I felt back in 1979! also check out TIME. WELCOME TO THE MACHINE. THE GREAT GIG IN THE SKY. you won't be disappointed
I seen floyd live 5 times I was there when the seating collapsed. Earls Court.London.
Pink Floyd are amazing - you never forget listening to the first piece of music you hear by them
This song still gives me chills.
go back and listen again, just listen to the layers in the music, behind the lyrics. its synthesized, but, the stings, and horns....perfect.
Listen to the song or, better yet, the entire album without interruption. Albums by PF you need to check out are Wish You Were Here and Dark Side Of The Moon for starters.
My all time favorite song. This song kept me away from drugs.
One of the best Rock guitar solos ever. How many times have it listened to this song and it never gets old or any less impressive.
You haven't experienced this song until you see the live Pulse Concert version.
You might want to turn the music up or your voice down a bit for better balance.
Yes Pink Floyd was a band of my era of the 70's and 80's
Delicate sound of Thunder is one of their (like) rock operas and a favourite video of mine. These guys were amongst the first to use lazers.
And in case no one else said this, Pink Floyd was VERY popular with people who smoked pot.
Mathew Donovan the Pulse version is excellent, but the live version from the 1980 Earls Court Wall concert is like a religious experience🙏
@@leesaunders4113 not 100% sure that I've seen that version. I will check it out. :)
Mathew Donovan There you go. Enjoy😉th-cam.com/video/n1b3GO3FHqs/w-d-xo.html
Laying on the floor in the dark with big headphones at my mom's when I was in high school.
Saw Pink Floyd in 1987 in Seattle. One of the greatest shows ever.
Watching u react to this is so precious. We all knew what u were in for. Funny.
Pink Floyd is classic .. I'm glad that you young guys hear the music I grew up with....queen, Zeppelin, ...so awesome! Have fun,!!!
Welcome to the Machine son, Welcome to Pink Floyd brother.
They a band you should check out another brick in the wall
I'm up waaaaaay past my bedtime but your reactions are awesome and the music you've posted is just pure class. Reading the comments I'm getting an education. Really great stuff here.
my dad always used to listen to pink floyd whilst cooking so i grew up listening to it too, it's nice to have on in the background of a chill sunday morning
4 seconds into pink Floyd : what the hell...
Yup, he's got the vibe
Peace✌🤘
Thank you much appreciated
Stay on the Floyd......Time, Hey You.....oh who am I kidding......any Floyd is good Floyd.
Remember back them we were all pretty high when listening to Pink Floyd, as a matter of fact I am lighting one up as I listen.....
Pink Floyd is my go to. Both of my sons, who are now both in their 20s, know every word to every one of their songs.
917 weeks on the Billboard 200 (and counting) for Dark Side of the Moon. The Rogers Water guitar solos in this song are legendary.
Your reaction is awesome!!! Love this song!!
Thank you
My dad introduced me to pink floyd when I was... 12 or 13. I remember just being in my dark room and just forgetting the shit of my life at the time. Aaah, I love watching you explore some of the songs I grew up on 💖 it makes them like new again
Highly recommend listening to more Pink Floyd and Queen.
Personal Recommendation : Lynyrd Skynyrd - Freebird Full length.
Think youll love it.
Alright i'll check it out thanks
@@JayveeTV Cool :) Loving the channel. You have such genuine positive reactions, your love of music shines through.
@@Traehnoel thank you for the kind words. It means alot
Road Trip = The Dark side of the Moon album. 45 min. 👂
I LOVED your reaction to this song!!!
I seen them in concert in Miami Florida in the 80's and it was mind blowing!
The best concert I’ve ever been to. I listen to the record a lot. So chill. 🖤🤘🏻
I've seen Pink Floyd in concert 3 times in outdoor arenas. It rained during every one!
I'm late to the game, but I'll be caught up soon. I'm really enjoying your appreciation for these bands of my youth. You go young man.
My late brother was a musician during his time on his earth and taught me that majority of musicians write their songs from life experiences
'Mother' is another song in the album that is incredibly moving and without compare.
Just close your eyes and enjoy! Welcome to Pink Floyd!!
Easily one of my favorite Pink Floyd songs ever.
Just amazing!
Everything about Pink Floyd is smooth and polished to perfection.
This is my favorite song of Pink Floyd, the guitar solo is pure ecstacy
So many bands from so many genres and I struggle to think of one that I like more than pink floyd
oh no, another one has gone down the rabbit hole, what shall we do ??? I know, outlaw pink Floyd, yes that's it.......welcome to the Floyd, we want you here
"oh no, another one has gone down the rabbit hole"
'Nuff said!
Enjoy discovering PF music, you will love them.
Live please. Probably best solo for taking your soul into another universe. Just absolute perfection. A MUST SEE!!
Pink Floyd is one of the most famous bands of all time. Her album "Dark Side of The Moon" has been named the best music album of all time in many music polls. Listen and you will know what really great music is. I believe that you will then look for other albums and fall in love with them.
Mr. Jayvee. I saw a video of yours on youtube for the first time about a week ago. Im anlittle hooked now! I really enjoy your reactions to music you havent heard before. Wether its the tune, the words, the voice. Its really cool that you just take it all in and enjoy. Great way to explore music, not just one part of it. Thanks for that! Im a subscriber now! Cant wait to watch more music reactions.
This album kicks ass!! You should listen to them live, it's other worldly. Thanks for this. 😊
This song is sublime. So glad you got the experience you did.
Great video as ever mate. Your reaction videos are my favourites 😁
