I used to have several devices in my USB chain, now I only use the Shiit Eitr and it's the best sound I've heard from my PC. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it compared to these SOTM units.
I hate to spoil that idea but I will never again lend equipment from viewers/readers for if it goes wrong it gives a lot of problems. It's a pity Schiit won't lend me one. I would almost think I know how they came across that name😁

The Sotm seems to be recommended with streaming audio or computer audio. I have a very good Aurender digital player playing only hi rez digital downloaded files to a holo spring 3kte dac. would the Sotm help with this type of setup? I’m trying the ifi I purifier 3 and I notice an improvement. I wanted to try the ifi iusb micro you reviewed but it’s discontinued. So I’m looking for the next step without breaking the bank.

Hello Hans, I have a question regarding USB versions for the best audio performance. I believe I heard you mention in one of your videos that you should always use the USB 2 version for good audio. However it is becoming increasingly harder to find USB 2 compatible equipment with the newer USB 3 version over taking the market. Why is USB 2 better than USB 3 for audio? Is is because of the difference in speeds between the two? does this cause a timing issue? I have also notice that some Network streamers use the 100 MB/sec speed rather than the faster Gigabit Ethernet connections . Can you please help us to understand. Thank you.
In this case less is more. Digital audio does not require more bandwidth than USB2 and 100Mbit/s (not MB/sec, MB stands for megabyte, 8 times the data per second). The higher the bitrate, the higher the noise of the components that have to process that data.

I have the Uptone LPS 1. It outputs 7 vdc. And seems to power the Sotm usb ultra ok. The Sotm calls for 9 vdc. Do you think upgrading my power supply to 9vdc would improve performance?

I haven't tested that setup but my guess would be the sMS-200Ultra would give the best result. BTW the tx-USBUltra doesn't have the same board as is in the sMS-200Ultra.
Thank you for quick answer! For some time I was quite skeptical about optimized USB transport, as most devices claim to have proper reclocking and minimal jitter already, like Audiophilleo. Can't wait to hear how my Naim DAC V1 will be enhanced by one of those "proper" usb transports, even though it has Audiophilleo1 USB interface and no need power from USB:)

There is no point in watching clean clothes, they will only wear and not get cleaner again if the first washing was done well. It's the same with digital signals. Once optimal it won't get better. Since the sMS-200Ultra performs better, the tx-USB200Ultra might even have a negative effect.
Given the hobby/line of work, it's good to get a feel for something when you can vs. guessing it won't sound better due to a line of thinking. I know you've replied below that you'll give it a shot, but it's a widely used combination that has many supporting reviews. If I had the 2 devices in house, I'd certainly try them. I'm looking forward to your feedback, but where can I look for it?

@@soundfx2222 Well, USB 3 also has the USB2 fast mode which is used by USB Audio Class 2.

I have no experiences with those. It is quite easy to do for a manufacturer but it is very hard to do it well.
