    Man, remember nostalgic Nintendo games like Brain Age and Wii Sports? In this video, I played an assortment of Nintendo DS and Wii games over 60 days and tracked my progress to see if my Brain Age improved in Brain Age 2, Eye Age improved in Flash Focus, and Wii Fitness Age improved in Wii Sports. Man it was so cool to play Wii Bowling again, it's been too long. I also played America's Test Kitchen: Let's Get Cooking and Personal Trainer: Cooking to learn how to cook some new recipes, and play some Game and Watch games while I'm at it. Yeah, this video essay is jam packed with content, and I really hope that you enjoy it. This is by far one of my favorite videos that I've made.

    I've recently picked up a pristine condition DSi XL in brown/black (yes, the colourway that all the elderly people bought) and I was literally looking to see how I could use it in my daily life to provide me a form of routine. This was such an interesting, well made and fun video to watch. I already have Brain Training but I'm looking to improve my cooking so I might look into getting Cooking Guide!

    Oh man, I remember having these games when I was in middle school. I had personal trainer cooking and brain age. I don’t think I ever actually cooked anything from the game but I loved looking through all the recipes, so it was cool to see you actually cook from it (even if results were mixed 😅). I played brain age all the time though - I especially loved the change making minigame/exercise

    Really wonderful video all around. If you think about it this video incorporates the 4 core school subjects (science, math, history, and English)... Seeing the personal journey with real footage of your cooked meals made the video feel special, and more than just another video game review. I played Brain Age as a kid during 6th grade to fill my Summer Math homework quota.... little did the teachers know I spent half the time playing sudoku.
    This video also reminded me why I love Brain Age and Satoru Iwata's vision for Nintendo, the DS had so many games that experimented with the basic form of the medium... A lot of them were productivity based like the ones in this video, but games like Electroplankton, Flipnote Studio, and Warioware D.I.Y. also felt like unique experiences that utilize different skills compared to what games usually test. Looking back this sort of rampant experimentation would only have been possible during the DS era, the perfect cross roads between financial success and lower development costs. Sort of the perfect storm, especially considering that the DS also had plenty of games for traditional gamers, and shockingly decent third party support.

      Thanks so much for watching!! I like what you’ve pointed out here - the DS/DSi/Wii era was so interesting because of the productivity/lifestyle angle Nintendo took. There’s something about it that is so distinctly lovable.

    Wow! I'm amazed that there is an interactive, cook-book game on the NDS. As an expert on using the toaster and microwave, I could use a new challenge. 😅
    I love your content! Very creative and well thought out. Sometimes you need time to develop something special, so the inconsistency in uploads isn't a big deal to me. Keep up the great work!

    Awesome video. As someone who has been slowly learning to cook the last few years, I'm really impressed with how many different recipes you were able to take on here. I've found myself getting creative when I really had the energy for it, but that passion has slowly burned out and lately I've been sticking to what I already know as well as quick meals. Cooking is definitely its most fun when you're able to be adventurous and try new things, but it can also be pretty stressful.
    And so many of your dishes look great! Seriously I really want some beef and broccoli stir fry and huevos rancheros now...

    • @marksrecroom
      @marksrecroom  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks so much for watching!! couldn’t agree more - cooking is so much fun when you have the time, space and energy to get creative but it’s so difficult to make that time to make something that’s new, haha. But yeah if you are interested, you should totally try using one of these recipe games, if for nothing else just for the novelty! hahahah

    This is such a great video! It’s great seeing love for these games, especially America’s Test Kitchen! I bought that game on a whim at a thrift store once and I’ve ended up using it a lot! It’s super intuitive, has really great presentation, and it’s awesome to have a bunch of recipes on hand rather than worrying about having to search for something new in the vastness of the internet. Some of the recipes have become staples of my cooking that I make super frequently!

    Woah this is such an awesome video! It had me wanting to plan some cool meals to cook and also buy the brain age books lol! I have a core memory of playing brain age on the ds at our Disney world family vacation 👏🏻 it’s so fascinating seeing how cool those cooking games are and actually helpful they were, your food looked so good :) definitely add some more veg, I always go by the rule, the more colorful the plate the better, even if it’s just carrots of spinach on the side! I absolutely loved seeing the progress on everything and it reminded me of how important training your brain is!

    Really neat idea for a video! Routines have always been a challenge for me as well due to motivational issues and handling time management. The most consistent thing I ever did was play Animal Crossing: New Horizons every day for 4 months back when the game was new. But I do have a lot of nostalgia for Brain Age, specifically the Brain Age Express titles which I would play often for the short time I had a DSi, and I would later buy back the Math version on my 3DS. I actually just tried it out again after watching this video and got a brain age score of 20 on my first go in years, even with Number Memory involved, though given that I've gotten that score in the past and my success rate wasn't quite as high as before, I'm not all that surprised. I played Concentration Training a lot when it was new as well, though the devilish training might've taken it a bit too far. In any case, this video has kind of inspired me to try out a similar method of getting my life back in order this summer, with me being on a college break and all. I don't know what it would consist of, but it's very much worth a shot with the free time I'll have. If anything, one of those cooking games sounds like a great way to get me interested in making more food and diversifying my palette. But if not, at least I now know some great tunes to use for my own videos, lol.

    Some of the best things you can do to improve your health is start eating whole foods, most notably meat, dairy, fruit, and eggs. I myself eat about 2 pounds of grass fed beef a day, 4-6 eggs, avocados, cheese, and fruits. I also workout 6 days with weights and 4 with cardio. That's not going to be easy to jump into so starting at a pace and rate that works for yourself is key, even if it was only a little bit. All this to say I feel incredible 24/7 and always fall asleep when its time to sleep.

    This bothers me about Brain Age. It presupposes that a younger brain is 'healthier', I guess? I'm not sure I agree with this. You can be equally slack jawed at any age and sharp minded. Yes dementia might be a thing. But is doing lots of mental arithmetic going to improve anything but that task/s? I don't think so. But I would advocate something not akin to trivial, simple tasks but to holistic and connected expansive thought, to help you to achieve clarity in your thought process overall and identify issues. This is training for chain gang office job type brain work.
