This reminded me of a small French company that makes film rolls out of washi paper (Kozo and Gampi, more specifically) instead of the classic cellulose. Tried them a few years ago, they give interesting textured results (if your analog camera can handle 25 ISO ^^) and the negatives are cool object on their own :-)
I laughed the first time I met a “Tomoe River snob”. But it eventually won me over, and I became one myself. 😄 But I am going to have to check out those alternatives you mentioned at the end.
Love Hobonichi because of Tomoe River Paper. I wish we could get Hobonichi refills year round and further in advance than now. I have to have a year in advance for a lot of things.
I wish I had time to play with my fountain pens, water colors and inks. I want to play more with my Tomae River Paper, but I would love to try some of the washi paper you listed here.
I used to be a 120gsm person, but after severe joint and muscle problems, I was forced to choose a lighter paper And after trying products that use tomoe, I haven’t gone back Not that I need a paper that holds ink that well since I never use such pens, but I was just so used to the heavier weight, and was afraid of the durability of thinner paper.
I haven't tried Sanzen S, but I did try the 2021 Tomoegawa paper, and they didn't perform as well as the pre-2021 Tomoegawa papers with my fountain pens/inks. I"ve heard great things about the Sanzen! Are JetPens's Kanso Sasshi notebooks still using the old paper stock, or have those already been switched over to the Sanzen already? Thanks for another great video!
A paper I like is the Office Depot store brand Premium coated white 22# paper. It is 9.5 x 7.25, 80 sheets, spiral bound. Do you have a paper that might compare to it in an A5 journal book. I am a left-handed fountain pen writer. I cannot use Tomoe River because I drag my hand over the wet ink and smear it. I have found that this office depot paper works very well when writing left-handed but I do not like the spiral binding. I have found several inks that work well with it. Have you any ideas? I see the paper is made in Malaysia.
Rest in peace Tome River Paper😭. I will give that successor paper a chance, (after I bronze my old hobonichi techo's lol) And thank you JetPens team for the informative and charming videos.
I love the Tomoe River, especially in the Kanso Noto notebook. However, I tried using some loose leaf as filler for my disk bound notebook. The light weight wasn’t great for the shape of the holes-it could get snagged easily and damaged, especially if the notebook was folded over on itself. I had won a Maruman Mnemosyne notebook, which had displaced Rhodia as my go-to fountain pen paper, and, for me right now, second only to Tomoe River. I’ll harvest sheets from the notebook and punch it for disk binding. The heavier weight (80 gsm) works better for this application, with only a slight reduction in performance.
i much prefer cosmo air paper over tomoe river. i like that it shows off the shading qualities, i like the subtle grit (like a velvet whiteboard) and the low show through for easier readability. i still have diaries and some quick jotters made with tomoe river, but i think i’ll likely be using cosmo air only after they run out.
Has anyone used *Rorito Fanta Flow* ? I've used it a few days ago and loved the thick ink coming out of it. Is there anything else having similar writing with better a build and a bit more refinement?
It drives me bonkers when planner sticker people/shops will call any decorative rectangular sticker "washi." Washi has a specific meaning, and plastic nonremovable stickers ain't it!
Miriam isn't a native Japanese speaker, but you can hear our Japanese colleague pronounce "washi" in this video: th-cam.com/video/9jrH4LdP_n0/w-d-xo.html
The way you pronounce "washi" is incorrect, the weight is on the wrong part. It's hard to describe in text, but your way sounds more like "washi" as in "hawk" or "myself", with more weight in "shi". Washi as in washi tape should have more weight on the "wa." The English way of pronouncing it is actually not far.

Love the history & news. TFS. Good to hear Sanzon will be producing same style of paper.

I fell inlove with the cosmo note paper , it does feel very thin but the multicolored ink ,sheen and shadings are all see through, i'm amazed

I just lobe the paper used in the Midori notebooks and inhte Jibun Techo business....as a designer I never saw this quality paper before. Amazing
I love everything about japanese products...
YES, I loved the first video! Thank you!
I love Japanese stationery forever especially Sarasa, Muji Pilot Copic Kokuyo and soon hobonichi

If I lived in the United States, I would buy your products. In the meantime, I am just enjoying your videos.
When will the Successor paper be on the market? Thank you for these vids, you guys are so great.

Tomoe River all the waaaaaaaay! Love it!

I love Midori paper!!
So cool, Cool Japan.
God bless the japanese.
Hmm... I still haven't used Tomoe River paper yet. I'll have to get my hands on some before the old stock runs out.
Though I prefer a nice twin ring for a better flattening layout, gotta admit, those Kanso Noto's are appealing.

I am a huge fan of the Tomoe River 52gsm. I am happy to hear there will be a suitable replacement. Maybe now I can stop my paper hording! 😂
Great video

I wonder which of these papers (including the ones from part I) is the best for a typewriter? Hmm... Any ideas on that, @JetPens?
Could you do a third part video that includes:
Ma
Apica
Life
Nemosyne
Paper
So far, 68gsm tomoe river paper has my heart.
The tomoe river paper is pretty nice, but I still ride or die for Midori
Cuz paper beats rock!
Can you all do a review of the leuchtturm1917 outlines journal 😀. Maybe test some pens to see how they hold up 🤔
Has anyone used *Rorito Fanta Flow* ?
I've used it a few days ago and loved the thick ink coming out of it. Is there anything else having similar writing with better a build and a bit more refinement?
best paper for pencils vs gel pens vs fountain pens?
I can’t have enough Ito Bindery pads. Use them for everything.
I love Tomoe River paper. Will the name be changing with this new manufacturer?
I love a nice pen too
What is the pencil at 1:31?
Hi there! That's an E+M Workman Clutch Lead Holder: www.jetpens.com/E-M-Lead-Holders/ct/2805?&f=e8a21d3dacec2c1e
Paper is God.
Do you ship to Australia?
Hi there! Yes we do. Just set it as your country when checking out on our site.
Why I can't put subtitles on?
Hi there! Subtitles should be available. Have you tried refreshing the page?
if only i could get good japanese paper in Australia that isn’t craft paper :(

Great video .. But I am just concerned why were your hands shaking so much
Awesome! And apparently, I’ve been mispronouncing “washi” all my life. Emphasis appears to be on the last syllable, am I right?

@@JetPens thank you!
😍💕🥰
The accent of “Washi” is wAshi, not washI. The latter means an eagle. Just for information.
Cosmo over Tomoe for me.
First
Because it has no trees

You're not even Japanese and you're "correcting" a native speaker. Ok, weeb 🤣🤣🤣🤣

That's interesting, I never heard of cosmo air paper.😀 Any note book suggestions so I can try it out?
@@falennewman7289 Jetpens has a few, but I got mine from Atelier Musubi, in the A5 folio size :)
