MSP 84th Recruit Training Troop Graduation Ceremony

- On June 27, 2019, The Massachusetts State Police 84th Recruit Training Troop held their graduation ceremony the DCU Center in Worcester.
A total of 171 trainees became Massachusetts State Troopers. The graduation ceremony is the culmination of six-months of intensive training at the Department’s academy in New Braintree. That training included rigorous instruction in police procedure, criminal law, defensive tactics, physical fitness, firearms instruction, emergency vehicle operation, ethics, and specialized topics, such as responding to an active shooter incident and enforcing domestic violence, impaired driving, and animal cruelty laws. Trainees lived at the academy on weekdays and went home only on weekends.
Speakers at the ceremony included Lt. Governor Karyn Polito, State Police Superintendent Colonel Kerry Gilpin, Attorney General Maura Healey, and the Class Speaker, Trooper Joseph LaBounty. Awards were presented for highest-performing trainees in classroom studies, physical fitness testing, and firearms accuracy.
The new Troopers hail from diverse backgrounds. More than half have some previous law enforcement experience, including former local police officers, sheriff’s and corrections officers, military force security and a harbormaster. Many are military veterans, including those with deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan and former members of Special Operations Forces and military intelligence. Numerous graduates have EMT or paramedic certification, or served as medics in the armed forces. Several trainees bring life experience from other professions or specialties as well; among them are a former high school teacher, a trained anthropologist, martial artists, an electrician, and holders of commercial driving licenses, pilots licenses, and maritime captain’s licenses.
Numerous members of the graduating class are fluent in second languages, including Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Arabic, Italian, Haitian-Creole, Cape Verdean-Creole, and Albanian.
Just applied for 2021 exam, just watching this gives me hope that one day I may earn the title of a “State Trooper”.

The massachusetts state police abuse detainees and fabricate charges with impunity. Nobody should be suprised when a cop is ambushed and executed, shot in the head or face.
I was supposed to be in a training exercise,it was in a garage I can't remember if it was for r.i. or Massachusetts state police,but it was on here,they shot me in cold blood in the garage because I wouldn't reliquish my name Wich is illegal,and beat me afterwards,stomped....I'm Robert Marfeo Jr., April 5 th,1978...
