Thanks for the video Chris, this just helped me, my dad AND a couple of your colleagues at a VW Van Centre when picking up my Cali. We'd missed pulling out the rotary mechanism so didn't have the gap, thus the towbar didn't lock in place and just kept falling out! So simple and had us all kicking ourselves but your video saved the day.
Thanks for the video. It might help if the vehicle manual explained the tow bar is ready armed from new! Thought I was going mad. Don’t seem very secure against theft.

You've mentioned the down force exerted on the tow ball - what is the maximum allowed for the removable tow bar that comes from the factory on a T6.1 California Ocean? Basically, what is the maximum weight allowed for a bike rack including cargo and bikes? Also, if not carrying a bike rack but a trailer (ex: boat, etc.), should the tow ball be greased to avoid friction issues? Many thanks and kind regards from a Portuguese fan! (To avoidance of technical specifications, my VW was bought on VW Liverpool commercial vans)

It’s a T6 2019 but tow bar looks unused so in mint condition. Just wondered if you have any advice, I don’t want to use it until I can lock in place.

Ordered in August 21 and received an email last week saying they are running at reduced production capacity due to supply chain issues. What happens if delivery is in July 22?
Thanks Chris, Very helpful - I was fiddling round frustrated for 20 mins throng to get mine back off, good to see your plain instruction. When you have a bike rack fitted to the towbar, are the reversing sensors clever enough to adapt?
It’s a very nice, easy, set up to use (doesn’t take the skin off my knuckles like the one on our XC60 did!). Downsides are not much clearance between the hitch and bumper, especially if towing a caravan, the vast majority of which now have Alko stabiliser hitch heads, and no separate breakaway cable attachment point; frustrating that it’s on the detachable part!
Hi Chris. When we bought our T6 Ocean, the dealer made a point of telling us that it had the electrical preparation option in case we ever wanted to have a tow bar fitted. Last year I went to 2 different VW commercial dealers and asked about doing this. Both said that I would be better off going to a 3rd party and letting them install their own electronics. Any ideas why this would be? Cheers.
The tow bar issue seems to have been ongoing for some time, I have an order from last June with a provisional build date of March. From what you said, it seems unlikely that date will be met. Sad times….😥

Struggling to get it back in the box when detached. How do you lock it and remove the key when not on the cali?
What’s the weight you can put on a removable gc removsble Towbar example will it take a scooter rack and a 129kg Vespa

I understand your frustration. Sadly, we don't have any further updates just yet.
