I have an H4. Sometimes it has traces that jump all over the place even when a calibration reference (O,S or L) is attached and the readings do not make sense. Other times it works fine. Very annoying, especially because there are so many variables to take into account such as firmware, drivers (if connecting to PC), questionable calibration standards,etc. It is frustrating because for example, I can connect the device to my desktop PC and using NANOVNA APP, it works perfectly. When I move to my laptop, same app and settings, it performs strangely. Ugh! Glad you resolved your problem. Is it holding up well after almost a year of use?
Please clean the inside of the SMA connector of the port 1. I'm sure pieces of gold coating are shorting the central pin of this connector to the ground.

Not good at all. I was going to get one. Now I'll wait until I see a fix. I have the NanoVNA H 4 and it does not have this issue.

Is this hardware related or can a firmware update help to solve this issue ?
The Hardware was faulty. Sent Back and got my Money back. I bought A New one. Works very well.
