I was born in Fiji and half Rotuman. Sure, Fijians can do all the dances but they are not traditional Fijian dances. They are borrowed and not "our" dances. Acknowledging where they orignate from educates people that are ignorant of the differences. To say they are all Fijian doesn't do justice nor respect to all the distinctive cultures the dances are borrowed from. Alalum!
@S T they are borrowed from Rarotongans who spent time in Rotuma in the 1940’s. There are writings about it online. They called the dance ‘mak Rarotonga’ to acknowledge its origins which is cool.
Fiji Tonga. As a indigenous Fijian, I think you wrong, you have to understand that fiji is multicultural in all islanders. I'm so proud when they put fiji because fiji except everyone in their home land. Mary Christmas brother.

A test of a people is how it behaves toward the old. It is easy to love children. Even tyrants and dictators make a point of being fond of children. But the affection and care for the old, the incurable, the helpless are the true gold mines of a culture. If art is to nourish the roots of our culture, society must set the artist free to follow his vision wherever it takes him.
