Wow navigating at night, in a blizzard, in the mountains, in formation, with a fully load aircraft. Using only radar and maps, an almost impossible task. These crews where so dam skilled and brave.
Unbeliavable airmanship and courage from those helicopter crews. Landing an overloaded helicopter on the back of a ship in heavy seas is a an unforgiving task. You either land it, or you die. The few of us who have done it and lived to talk about it know how lucky we were. This is a young man's game requiring skill and luck. Fly Navy!
the navalized surface ship borne variant of the AW101 Merlin HC5 maritime multi role CSAR helicopter seriously need a serious makeover & for good measure!!!
I did the calculations for the SAS mountain troops on South Georgia island it was converted into -4 Fahrenheit and 114mph winds National Weather Service only goes up to 110mph for wind chill max, it said -46 farenheit but actually -50 farenheit if you add the extra 4mph over the max wind chill calculator! Negative 50 Farenheit!!!!! Worse than being stuck in a blizzard on Everest! At -20 farenheit exposed skin freezes in 60 seconds, so -50 F @ 20 Seconds to freeze exposed skin!!!! Just a lil help for Celcius and Kilometer per hour handicapped lol.
Great Documentary, now I have even more respect for the Indian Army operating in - 30 degree centigrade (in the summer!) on the Siachen glacier where even oxygen is so low. Jai Hind! From Nagaland.
😂😂😂😂😂 they want to make sure he was not going to run into the side of a mountain 😂😂😂😂 that wouldn't be good for TV but the ratings on that show will be through the roof
What i want to know was who was the damn madman who's idea it was to land on that Glacier in the first damn place!? There's a difference between mission and Suicide! I'll bet whoever planned it never been operations whatsoever!
Congratulations to the UK on the Falklands. Amazing performance.

Incredibly brave or Incredibly stupid.
This was done a lot in the Kargil war in India Pakistan war.
These chaps - especially the aircrews - have stainless steel balls! One hell of an undertaking. Thanks for posting and stay safe 🙏
Old soldier here enjoying the military tenacity. Soldiers everywhere hold their high height all the way to the grave.

This is a great series and well told/produced.
Highly trained and skilled men with the stupidest plan they could come up with. Brilliant
We miss US Coast Guard Alaska!!!!!
Surviving two crashes in a same type of heli in an inhospitable terrain is called a Miracle. It’s true that some really die hard. But they live.
Love this channel

When does Wessex start putting multiple engines in helicopters.
Many lessons learned on this one, let the Argentinians freeze their nuts off and send the SAS in summer very talented pilots doing best they could.
American helicopters.. They never mentioned that fact !!!!!!!!!!
British modified put new engines in and some other things aswell
@@jameson1239 apparently not a very good one either
@@sinsley1 I wouldn’t know I never maintained or built the things
@@jameson1239 they said right in the documentary multiple times it has a tendency to fail
Easy Francis, that's a given.
Because sometimes you have to go and collect pieces of land you stole. Just stay out of Ireland, start there.
