Lovely video, thank you. Many a visit to Prospect House where Natwest Commercial Bank used to reside. Also, almost terminated my life 57 years ago on a motorcycle chasing another fool up the Belle Vue road when a bus pulled out across the road in front of me! My sister and brother in law owned the chip shop further up before the small bridge. Lots of memories of the area.
I used to walk past that house everyday, my school friends and I used to stare and wander what dwelled in there. I really appreciate these videos thanks
Its great to see that modern planners are making sure that all new build housing fits in with the traditional Edwardian landscape quite the opposite to what they did in the 1960s and 1970s.
Lovely to visit Belle Vue through your video. I bought my first house inTrinity Street in 1989. I remember going into the old corner shop to buy tins of Castlemaine 4x (I think) for friends who were helping us do major works on the house. I was pregnant at the time and the old guy was thinking they were all for me I'm sure....got some very funny looks. My children went on to attend Holy Trinity Playgroup and then Coleham school in the 90`s. I moved to Oak Street eventually but sadly not living there any longer. If you get chance have a look at the brickwork of the houses in Montague House (heading towards the walkbridge over the railway into Sutton Park) generations of children have etched their names and dates in to the walls of the houses along the left side. Great bit of social history.
Thank you for watching and commenting. It’s really lovely to hear story’s like yours as they add to the fabric of these streets. Very nice of you to keep your friends/workers lubricated tho did that little shop have refrigerators for drinks? 🤣. And thanks for the Info and heads up on the wall, I’ll check it out 👍
@@thirdratecontent585.... I'm pretty sure the cans were. all stacked behind counter on rear wall of the shop...no fridges. it should ha e said Montague Place.. Not house. Auto text at its best.
For some reason Colham has always (in my memory) been a hotbed for haircuts etc. my Grandad used to go to a gentleman’s barber just off the bridge in the 80s 👍
Good that mate some interesting history...I remember coming down the bell vue road holding on to the roof of my mate Elwyn's car as he did about 50 mph....unbelievably stupid 😅
I’ve only just stumbled on your TH-cam page. Thank you so much for your videos on history of Shrewsbury! Very interesting and informative.

Yes I quite agree. Carline Crescent is a great example of a newer (mid eighties) build that fits in in a tasteful and elegant manner 👍
Thanks for this, good to see my hometown again

The houses in Trinity Street were built for housing the railway workers. The larger ones dotted every sonoften were for the bosses. :)

I lived in a flat in Montpellier House and the malting was not far from us. We could smell it (nice).
Wow, I was there in 84 I was in Foster Care with the Pike's.
My first primary school in coleham.
Sounds like you were at Coleham the same time as me, thanks for the comment
I used to have my haircut in coleham by a nice Scottish barber and my wife had her hair done in a hairdressers just off grey friars bridge

Used to be used as offices for child and family social services and contact centre

We’ll show a bit of the Network Rail depot

Thanks for the compliment and comment. Yes that’s pretty hair raising 😱 the key thing is you’ve got the memory as opposed to being the memory 🤣👍
The brewery was established by Thomas Hawley, but I don't know if he was related to me.
Thanks for the info. That would be very interesting to find out.
Spent many a happy hour in the Crown 🍺
It’s got a terrific beer garden. Right next to the river 👍
