  • Last time we looked at every game adaptation of ALIENS, but with the 16-bit era in full swing those we got for the (extremely) nihilistic ALIEN 3 should hold more potential... right? Let's find out.
These games have been in my life so long, I can't remember anything else.

Same. I've been waiting for this video since I saw the one on all ALIENS game, and after it dropped a couple hours before I watched it, I was surprised to be within the first 100 to see it. And the first to post a comment.

You're going to hate me for saying this, but I have played the Alien 3: The Gun arcade game. Cannot remember where it was, but I think it was at a truck stop somewhere on the way to or from Birmingham for GW's Games Day event one year, we're talking 20 years ago now.

Yeah, I'm an assembly-cut guy, as well.
There's another version of the script by David Twohy which later became 'Pitch Black'.
And there's a good book about all the different scripts called: Dissecting Aliens: Terror in Space.
    Just a few points:
Also, if you read the instruction manual to the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive version of Alien 3, there's levels called 'Extermination Rounds', they were later changed for the 'Mayhem Round(s)'.
The Guardians are just plane Warrior Aliens from the pervious film and The Hive was removed from Alien 3 and replaced for the room where Ripley smashes the pipe full of bugs.
The Pulse Rifles in Alien 3 do sound different from the Pulse Rifles in Aliens, in canonical reason is because they're Weyland-Yutani M41A-E1's, which is picked up upon in Aliens: Colonial Marines.
One of the tracks in the SNES game is 'Ripley's Rescue' from Aliens.
And there is a point and click Aliens game on the PC, but it's not very good...

Oh bugger, I'd been hoping that Point & Click game would be good...

@@ItsMatticusFinch Yeah, it's called 'Aliens: A comic book adventure' and it's based on a dark horse comic book; It has a horrible timer mode in it and plays a bit like the RPG parts of the Wing Commander games.
It's based in the Aliens-Alien 3 timeline, but everyone is running around in weird encounter-suits with laser Gatling guns attached to their shoulders.
It's also a pain in the proverbial backside to get to work properly on modern PCs.
But there is a fan finished beta of the cancelled Bioware Aliens RPG out there on the Internet, somewhere.
And a fan remake of the Atari Jaguar Aliens Vs Predator was released a while back.
Anyway, thanks for the video and for pointing me to the LV-428 remake.

@@ItsMatticusFinch Yes, that's the one!!! It's a crying shame it was never released.
Yes, AvP Remake was released in 2020 and is currently on version 2.8; It's a faithful remake but it's still a little buggy.
Just search for: Aliens vs Predator Jaguar Remake and you'll easily find it.

The NES version of Alien 3 does have completely distinct level designs and music, so although it has the same gameplay style as the Mega Drive/Master System/C64/Amiga, it’s not a port of the same game as those.

Clicked on this because I had the Gameboy version as a kid and despite being such an oddity holds a place in my heart. Barely ever made much progress but really dug the adventure game feel, used to just go for as many kills as I could. I would probably would have loved it back in the day too. I'd love to see an Adventure Game set in the Alien universe, I've only heard a few things about Aliens: The Comic Book Adventure (what a mouthful) so hopefully that'll scratch that particular itch!

I think what a lot of people miss when they go back and look at games is how it was at the time. We didn't have all the quality of life improvements, quick saves, checkpoints etc. We were used to it. And even though I found Alien 3 frustrating as a kid, I always came back to it for another try. Games were generally shorter back then and not massive time investments, although some could be. Then there's the fact that games back then were also that... games... and not daily login quests or... ahem "services".
You wanted to go back to them.

Oh you poor lad, Alien 3 the gun was awesome, the pulse rifle was massively chunky and firing off missiles with the side button was a joy. Pretty sure the gun vibrated too. Had it in a bowling alley my family used to go to. Hard as nails though it was an absolute coin muncher.

I was thinking it right before you said it, Mega Drive's (deal with it yankees!) Alien 3 had AWESOME music, the title screen slow dark intro, jamming tune afterwards, game over screen and the in game tracks were all stellar.
And yes... it's better than the snes version. Come to terms with it!

Dunno about anyone else, but I found it silly that the UPP uses the UD-4 in the Alien 3 comic. I mean, sure, a big overarching aspect of the ALIEN setting is the corporations control of so much, but I find sharing and selling military hardware tends to cross a line that makes it a hard sell. Plus it deprives us of seeing the unique craft of another human faction in the setting.
I've got fond memories of playing THE GUN at the local bowling alley in the mid 90's. Only ever got to the part of the game where the inmates are running from the aliens in the leadworks. I'm pretty sure my teenage ass was much worse than Matticus here.
Hope Matticus get some friends to play Fireteam with. The AI players are... bad. Quite bad. To the point playing with randos is usually better, even with the lack of in-game VOIP.

Super jealous you've managed to play THE GUN on the proper hardware!

@@ItsMatticusFinch Heh, I still have the game installed, though I've mostly moved on to Helldivers. Still, I rather enjoyed the story and lore of Fireteam. Honestly wish there was more story. And four-players. And the ability to have the camera hover over a different shoulder while moving about. But I had a lot of fun with friends in that game, and it even helped me get a friend interested in PvE games like it and Helldivers.
I'd be happy to play again, though, if you need an extra person. :D
I will say that I played the NES version of ALIEN 3, and while it's similar to the Genesis one, it *felt* so much worse. The controls and camera were just awful, and the timer made the game so much more unbearable for my Elementary brain. Kind of disappointed that one wasn't covered, though I suppose AVGN's video already brought up most of the issues I remember.

I *love* how the film looks as well, like they're literally trapped in hell with Xenomorph. I found a new appreciation for the film when I watched the Assembly Cut for the first time.

    • @Xeno426
      @Xeno426 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

The hate is how the characters we've grown so attached to in the previous film just have a bridge dropped on them before the opening credits are even done. Plus it's trying to set up a single alien like the first film, but most of the cast are just nameless. *I* have come to know the names of a bunch of them because I've seen the film so many times (and I've seen a bunch of the actors in other work, like good old Pete P.), but upon the first few watching they're a mass of faces that die and don't elicit any reaction, save for ones like Dillon and Clemens.
Though the fact that Fincher managed to get a film that even makes sense out of all the meddling he put up with is impressive.
