I live less than 10 miles from the beach in Half Moon Bay CA.. I haven't even set foot on that beach or any beach at night or alone in over 20 years. When i was younger a bunch of my friends and i would go to the beach every single weekend at night for years. We'd always bring a boombox/radio, food, and party around a bonfire until the sun came up. That all came to end when a group of us left my Coffee Shop i owned back in 2003 one evening (about 10 miles away inland from the beach) at around 10 pm when we closed up shop and arrived on the beach at 2 am. We didn't realize that we had lost almost 4 hours of time when we set foot on the beach until we got there and started walking from the trailhead down onto the beach. Everything changed at that moment when the Boombox and flash lights went dead at the same time. Both had brand new batteries in them. We had to walk back to our cars in the pitch black and when we got back to the cars the clocks in the cars showed a few minutes past 2 am ! Everybody was completely freaked the hell out and we left. When we got back to the parking lot of my Coffee Shop nobody could believe what actually happened. They were all saying the same crap.. that we had left after midnight and that the stop at the Safeway had wasted hella time. We left at 10pm, stopped at Safeway in Half Moon Bay to pick up some firewood which only took 10 minutes and then we drove 1/4 mile to the beach ! It's like everybody was trying to explain away my dead batteries and everything that happened.. made no sense. Total Amnesia

Btw, nothing physical happened to any of us that night as far as i know other than the fact they all seemed to explain it away the same way which is hella weird. i myself just experienced missing time and dead batteries and have full recollection of that night. The cars were o.k being 1/4 mile away. This will bother me until the day i die !

@@hellohellohello111 This is why i'm here. I knew about missing time from other peoples stories after researching my own, but not about the missing peoples like Dave reports on here. I used to share my story with people back when this happened but found out quickly it was not to my benefit. My experience has obviously bothered me and of course everyone in that group of friends up until this very day, and nobody has wanted to talk about it since. . I didn't see my friends change that night/day other than the shock and bewilderment, but over the years it has clearly had a compromising effect on a few of them as it has on myself. I started tracking my entire day, always looking at clocks, dates, and keeping mental notes of everything throughout the day. One of my friends started doing the same thing and i had no idea about it until around a year later. We've all all tried counseling one another over the years but it's never changed anything. We've all tried to forget but you never forget.

As a former member of the Coast Guard, boats I was assigned to worked a number of SAR cases of larger vessels like fishing boats off of Florida, the Bahamas and down into the Northern Caribbean area. As Dave said, it's usually the case when almost any vessel, small or large, along on track line being carried by currents whether wind or water driven, you are going to have some sort of debris field that can stretch out on a track of several miles in length. Along the track will be whatever kind of fuel that powered the boat along with various items of flotsam and jetsam. It's weird that none of that sort of material from either vessel was seen by aircraft and surface ships. It is also damned freaky that in the cases of both ships, there was no MAYDAY call or at least their EPIRBs did not go off. I have to also say that for those ships and crews, 13 foot seas are a flat calm day. You don't start to get concerned about sea states until they get closer to 20 feet. 13 feet for seasoned crews, is not a big deal. We often experienced around 13 foot seas off the Coast of Florida, especially crossing the Gulf Stream. It is something else that two vessels of the same type went down within hours of each other, taking the same track line. Definitely a creepy story. Get the hat. It's freaking great looking and feeling. The book is great too.

Grew up in Westport Washington. Dad was a commercial fishing captain for 27 years. People I knew and friends older brothers and friends dads boats would just be gone. No emergency distress call, no epirb, no answers to what happened, no anything. They are just gone and on their names end up on plaques on the fishing memorial. My dad told the story of another captain friend of his. They heard that there was a distress call or the boat had sank. My dad went to the exact spot where they were and his friend’s body that was actually under the water 2 or 3 feet. You couldn’t see it. The deckhands couldn’t believe he drove to the exact spot in the ocean where his body was under the water. My dad said he just knew where he was. Wild!

So a consequence of having a densely populated coast line is that there are simply a lot of corpses in these waters. The metro area along the shores of the Salish sea is home to more than 8.7 million people. Suicides and drownings are somewhat regular events.
So why do body parts so often end up on the shores of the Salish sea and not for instance, the San Francisco Bay Area? The story is simple. Things that float at the ocean surface move with the currents, but also are pushed a bit by the wind, and this can be significant in getting them to shore. The prevailing winds here are west to east, and so floating stuff in this part of the pacific gets blown to the coast effectively.
      And why feet?
It turns out that in water, human bodies naturally disarticulate, or come apart at the joints, so hands and feet often disconnect from corpses after soaking in the ocean for a while. Attach those feet to a floatation device such as a running shoe, they are easily washed ashore. (Notice there are no feet washing ashore in stiletto heels or flip flops. 😂) Running shoes are also much more buoyant than in the past. Tennis shoes also keep decaying feet in a neat package rather than letting toes and heels disperse, and footwear protects feet from hungry sea creatures, which end up gnawing on other exposed areas like ankles instead.
As for why we’re noticing more reports of these feet on beaches is partly due to the media keeping people on their toes, so now beachgoers investigate whether a lone sneaker has a foot in it. As it gets more press it has become somewhat of a phenomenon.
So it’s really not some great mystery. It’s pretty easily explained. 🙃

I have lived on WA. coast for many years. The last shoe with remains of a foot was found in Ocean Shores about 4 or so years ago now. The additional oddity is that since this began to occur, they have actually matched up 1 set. From an article I read in the local they have traced the currents in reverse and believe the feet are coming from a bridged island in BC Canada. The theory is people using the bridge to jump 😢

    Dear Mr. Paulides,
I am currently working for a community counseling service in North Eastern Oregon. I am new to their company but have experience as a drug/alcohol counselor Instructor and worked for some time in the substance abuse field. What is new is my new role helping with jail diversion, mental health and the homeless in Umatilla and some surrounding counties. Point is, I have followed your work for over 5 years now and truly enjoy your books and movies. What struck me was recently working with some very challenging mental health cases and I was feeling a bit burnt out and then I quickly recalled your son and everything you've spoken of surrounding him. God Bless. I wanted to thank you for sharing that because it enabled me to shift gears and pull a new perspective that encouraged me to push through whatever little petty personal crap was interfering with me helping these people...my people. A mother contacted us to help aid with her son and I thought of you and Ben and haven't been the same since. Thank you for sharing such unmitigated, unimaginable pain(as a father of 3 boys it hit home) because that helped drive me into another gear to continue this work they have put in front of me. God is in charge. I love it when He lets me help out. Grateful for you.

I used to live in Washington. When I was there, people seemed to disappear a lot. There is an ominous feeling there, and many weird things happen. When we went camping by Ranier, I had the distinct feeling something was watching our truck. We barely slept and left early the next morning.

I spent a night in Anacortes State Park back in August of 2018. The campground was full and my spot was between two other campers that went to bed by 10:30pm. I woke up at 12:05am. A loud “whooop” woke me up. I tried to listen for more noise from my neighbours but the second “whooop” came from the shore. The two calls kept coming every 15-20 seconds and they proceeded north to south ending about 8 minutes later at 12:13am. It was difficult to go back to sleep. The next morning I asked my neighbours about this. One lady didn’t acknowledge my question and went straight to how lovely the campsite was. The other neighbour said they heard it and didn’t know what that was. The feeling I got from this experience I never felt again. It was as if I was a guest in a very different reality. I felt like I was being watched and allowed to live.

What are the odds that two ships belonging to the same owner leaving the same port are overturned or lost at the same time. What are the odds of that happening? That is absurd also, these captains it wasn’t their first day on duty they knew how to drive into those waves and stuff they knew how to handle those both how to maneuver them, so they were safe, and then nothing showing up but one life raft? There is a lot on those boats that would float, and one life raft is found. very very strange. This is a good one that you found.

    Lifelong Bellingham (WA) resident.
Regarding the feet washing up in British Columbia, a couple of theories I've heard are a) a serial killer, b) Tsunami victims from Japan. We had a lot of debris wash up from the Japanese Tsunamis from British Columbia to Oregon, including a complete Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
The theory is that the feet (which were usually still in tennis shoes) were the last thing to be consumed by fish etc, as the currents brought the bodies over.
I have no idea, those are two theories that I've heard.
I have known a lot of commercial fishermen here over the years, fishing both in local waters & up in Alaska. A lot of fishermen & boats have disappeared, some without any trace. It's really not that unusual.
The currents up here can & are treacherous if you fall in, especially in the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Another prime example is the current at Deception Pass. Boats have to time it wirh the tides. I have seen boats get caught going against the tide and get dragged backwards, a few have been sunk, very suddenly. Some people who have committed suicide from the Deception Pass Bridge have been sucked under by the currents there, and their bodies never recovered.
The loss of life is very tragic, and they should never be forgotten, I don’t really believe that it's some paranormal mystery. The fishing industry is one of the most dangerous professions (if not most dangerous) in the world, and the ocean is very unforgiving.

I lived in Juneau AK for 4 years. And I learned that if anyone fell off a boat that was not witnessed, they were gone. That besides it being freezing..., there are a lot of things that will eat you in the water. There are a lot of Orca pods off the coast of AK.
Lastly.... once when flying from Juneau into Seattle in one of the waterways I saw a huge... what I thought was a whale. Not sure.
It’s strange all of these men came from same town.

I've never heard about this tragedy although I lived in Skyline which is situated on Burrows Bay from 1973 until 1981. My parents continued to live there until 1986. When I was a teenager, friends and I would often visit the 3 islands via canoe. We camped on Young and Allan a few times and explored the hell out of Burrows. I once tried to take a skiff to Williamson Rocks, located near Allan Island - big mistake. Those waters around that area are treacherous - my skiff was nearly swamped, forcing me to turn away. It saddens me to hear about this story because Burrows Bay is a place of many happy, youthful adventures for me. My sentiments go towards the friends and families of the 3 young men who disappeared from there.

I studied the charts since 6 years old and took my dad's boat out on Long Island sound at 11 years old by myself! My friends and myself grew up around boats.. are 16 ft and later on our 18 ft cabin boat both double floor with styrofoam flotation and in the sides of the boat.. the boats would not sink even if filled with water... Gasoline would be creating a huge slick on the water.. not only the boat hull but life jackets and buckets and other things would be floating.. this is definitely a strange mystery!

They must be related incidents and that the transponders didn't activate suggests the men went not down into the depths but up.
We know Sasquach mark certain individuals somehow, (not suggesting of course that Sasquach has anything to do with the disappearances!). Perhaps an explination is that the 17 souls from that town were 'marked' by whatever abducted them?
During the paradise fires there were reports of 'feeding frenzies' on beaches in California by strange beings, idk. Sorry to the famillies by mentioning this, I don't mean to traumatize them, but it may be a clue.
Your work is highly laudable David, thank you.
