Really like your videos. You're a fine player. I was the guitar player for Cat Stevens' tour in 1976, The Majikat Tour. I worked with him on the Buddha and the Chocolate Box album and then wound up going on the road with him a couple of years later. Great times!
Hey Tom, never apologize for being away because you are living the life with your kids. Now THAT is COOL. Can't go wrong with Townsend and Stevens. It was great to hear this song's chord progression. Hearing it isolated shows its brilliance. Thanks for everything. Saving money for the "Uncle Larry & Cousin GT" album. Can't wait to buy that.
Little Tommy, the fact that your passion for music and learning is still raging after all these years is awe inspiring. You told us you had those couple years off after the burnout, and i am personally grateful you jumped back in. I'm not sure if all your viewers realize what an amazing gift this is to the world. Thanks!! And keep on being a great dad. Rock & Roll
I'm visiting Nashville right now. Went to Gruhn's and Corey was awesome. We talked about Graphic EQ on the pedalboard, Plumes, Nobels and Blues juniors and got some great advice on using them for gigs. I will be going back. Met John Bolinger, we talked guitars and having white hair! Saw Luke MacQueary, what a sweet guy, I thanked him for the free guitar lesson I got by just watching him. Met Elliot Michael @ Rumbleseat, fun folks there too. And I've only been here 24 hours! Gibson Garage today, More Luke tonight then off to see Guthrie Trapp who's playing at Rudy's Jazz room. Carters on Sunday and Guitar lesson with Guthrie on Monday, he's playing at the Underdog that night as well. If I didn't miss my dog so much I might not leave. PS King Siam Thai restaurant Spring Rolls and Padthai noodles, (Medium spicy) ruled.
Hey Uncle Larry. So grateful you decided on Homeskoolin' as a means to get yourself through the pandemic -- and even beyond! That you took us with you, and that we're still here -- it's just one big and beautiful reciprocity.
❤and we are in your minute Tom! And glad to hear your memories and your future plans. Glad. I’m in Oregon today, throw a pick here! I believe in family, music, Jesus, and kindness.
I just spent 7 days on holiday in Ireland with my boys.. Just laughing, listening to music, playing guitars, walking, absolute precious time.. They are legends, great boys. ❤️
Tom if you get a whole house generator I highly recommend a Cummins Propane/Natural gas. Only downside is you need a propane tank if you don’t have a gas feed….property and local code might effect decision. They also make diesel and gas generators. I researched this for a year and Cummins was the clear winner. Pete Townsend is a genius, Quadrophenia is a masterpiece, great stuff Tom.
Saw Cat Stevens in 1971 or 2 at Massey Hall in Toronto. He was moving to hear….Yes I’m old. The chords for the Townsend song make my brain hurt. Great choice being the camp for the week. Can never replace those days. Thanks for these videos. Guitar and common sense in one spot! G
Your son’s are so lucky to have a dad that introduces them to great music. Got to see the who for the first time last year in LA and they absolutely killed it. Huge Pete Townsend and really enjoyed listening to him read his autobiography on audible. Cat Steven’s has made me cry a few times, one of a kind.
Thanks Tom, for an excellent channel. We follow you daily. You’re A Great Dad, the most important job, a Great musician (understating) one of the best innovators and performers ever and an excellent teacher. Back to a great Dad, I always tell my kids, “it’s not about me, you are the future, we will support you always” You are doing your best work, they will never forget.
Uncle Larry! Did an acting gig miming as a guitar player on a Gildan ad today at Marathon in Nashville. Backline was a Marshall stack and a Les Paul, provided by blackbird. Naturally none of it was plugged in, and I couldn’t help but feel like I was betraying the cause. “Big T-Shirt” wins again. Thanks for all the inspiration, you are the best in the biz.
Hey Tom, I think I walked by you and your family at The Struts show last week. I hope you guys had an awesome time! Thanks for all that you share and love the channel. Thanks for everything
It's great for this geezer to hear Cat Stevens mentioned. I always felt that he was talking directly to me when I was 17 - might've been all the Hermann Hesse books, too lol. I just dialed and re-strung my old guild and I may try to fumble through "Trouble" later, talk about vocal commitment! Good music never dies!
Every time you announce new T-shirts my Gildan stock drops several points. I loved this episode 20% more than usual, Uncle Larry. You made pandemic lives tolerable and now you’re the icing on the cake of better times.
Seeing the Who movie The Kids Are Alright the week it opened, the summer I was eleven, is why I started playing guitar and still do. A few months after I saw the movie I got a used 24-fret double humbucker Gibson L6, set up pretty nice, for $275 at a shop in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, thanks to my dad. Pete Townshend is a legend.
Tom you are the man, your videos are endlessly packed with incredible covers and knowledge of the songs/ industry and general life. Your an inspiration man and I look forward to every video you post. You've inspired this old dog beyond belief. Thank you man 🤘
Man. Good call on all those Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam deep cuts. Incredible…I hadn’t listened to those in years. Love “You Better You Bet”…”With a neon light for a Visa!” Amazing delivery from Daltrey of course. I reckon Pete used the 1st fret capo gambit a lot…I know he did on “Baba O’Riley”. I’ve been really digging the Ronnie Lane/Townshend tune “My Baby Gives It Away”…”North Country Girl” is fantastic. I always knew it as “Girl From the North Country” from the Dylan version, but it is known variously as “North Country Girl” as well. Great episode for the Home Skoolers…thanks Tom!
One of the things I like best about you. 'I took the boys to their dear mother's house'. I know EXACTLY that attitude; and I know it personally. Good on you, Buk. Way good.
Goddamn, the glory in those chords. You can get blissfully lost inside the bliss of those chords all day and night (Slit Skirts is another). Thanks for this great video! Long live Pete.
I listened to T Rex Electric Warrior today and I just realized it's probably because I heard You Better You Bet a couple of days ago. The power of suggestion...
Pete’s brilliant. I always had a soft spot for “Athena” off “It’s Hard” because I had a crush on a girl named Athena. Another song with that pushing tempo.
Awesome! I love the Who, and Uncle Larry channeling Tom Waits sings You Better You Bet - man it don't get better than this, I was singing along too! I haven't heard this in ages - thanx for this!
I’ve visited a handful of the legendary guitar shops around the Midwest and Nashville and Gruhn’s is by far my favorite. One of the only places where I’ve ever been able to just grab a true vintage guitar off the stand and plunk away on it without anyone looking cross eyed at you even though I had no intention of buying it or affording it. 😂. Great store and staff.
1. I love Cat Stevens. There was a Cat Stevens CD in my car stereo when it got stolen in 1999 and I'm still pissed about it. 2. Recently bought a Taylor 12 and it's great! Was not in the market for 12 but took it off the wall in the store and couldn't put it down. 3. I have an Uncle Larry pick from an Irsay gig! CC DeVille has nothing on you! Poison was the first concert I went to as a kid but I was definitely too far to catch a pick. Anyway... thanks for all the great videos! It's better than therapy!
Cat Stevens' Catch Bull at Four Album... I'm old enough to have had the cassette. It got stolen with all the other shit in my VW parked in the high school parking lot. It's been so long since I listened to that album. So good. Listening as I type this. Thanks for the reminder, man.
The progression in the pre-chorus evokes such emotion in me for some reason and on the 12-String to boot. I wish you would review Magic Power one day on that guitar! Hey, Uncle Larry, did you ever get my email? Glad you got to spend quality time with your beautiful boys! The world needs more Dads like you! Well, the world needs more Dads period! ✌
Omg. That song is so good. Thanks for playing that. Always loved it, and… let my love open the door. So good nice job keeping the rhythm and singing / it was perfect. I love your rhythm playing. and nice singing I was singing along. Ha!
You're gonna play with Peter Wolf? Wow, I loved The J. Geils Band - was listening to all their stuff the other day for almost two hours mowing on the garden tractor. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems they were one of those east coast bands that Cleveland adopted as its own back in the late 70s and early 80s. So many good songs, and they were great live I remember.
My brother, Joe Alaska, insisted I tune in and watch every episode. That was only a few months ago and I'm all caught up. I've even left a few comments and doubt I'll leave many more as everyone knows you truly rock. First, this episode should be renamed "Memories".
Tom - I'm thinking back to a couple of months ago when you made the decision to not tour this summer. You did the right thing, I'm also sure that you already know that. Love the 12 string, it seems to be holding it's tuning really nicely! I've always loved The Who. I sometimes feel that Pete gets stuck in a thematic rut, in some of the eras there is repetition (I hear some of it in the Chinese Eyes era). Here's the good thing - those themes are great and I could listen to them all day long.
I’ll second that plug for Taylor guitars 12 strings. I have had a Taylor full walnut jumbo for years and it sounds fantastic! Great energetic playing Tom.
Always good to see you Uncle Larry. I was in JR. High when the Who hit the radio. And Senior High when Cat Stevens first hit FM. Those first few records of Cat's still touch me with Magic. I played a big house party on the Forth. And played a request, "Behind Blue Eyes". And played "How Can I tell You" for my girlfriend who was also there. Much respect...
Tom I lived in st Thomas for almost 30 years with the hurricanes came we lost power for almost a year and after Marilyn in 1995 I got a generator that ran the hole house, 20kw, awesome
Tom, the time you spend with your sons, are ever lasting memories, and they need your time with them, more than they even know.
Really like your videos. You're a fine player. I was the guitar player for Cat Stevens' tour in 1976, The Majikat Tour. I worked with him on the Buddha and the Chocolate Box album and then wound up going on the road with him a couple of years later. Great times!
Amazing! Quite an experience that must have been.
I could listen to Uncle Larry talk about Pete and The Who forever!
Kid Rock ... Wow
You are an amazing guitarist,,, and a wonderful dad I might add,,,, thank you Otis Gibbs!
The obvious joy you get out of playing and passing on great songs is just pure sweetness. Thank you, Uncle Larry! And thank you, Pete (and the band)!
Time spent with Dad is way better than camp! God Bless
The boys will appreciate those memories more and more as they age too.. Nice work Dad.
Little Tommy, the fact that your passion for music and learning is still raging after all these years is awe inspiring. You told us you had those couple years off after the burnout, and i am personally grateful you jumped back in. I'm not sure if all your viewers realize what an amazing gift this is to the world. Nice to see you again Tom… You are a great man… You inspire me…
The Pete Townshend "Scoop" recordings are excellent. Pete's demos he prepared to play for the rest of the band. Pete solo acoustic is great stuff.
Awesome that you spent a week kicking it with your kids. That's just fucking cool.
Missed you Uncle Larry!! Thank you for everything!!!!
Pete Townshend’s “Scoop” and “Another Scoop” and “Iron Man” and “Rough Mix” are brilliant…
Rough Mix with Ronnie Lane is just chock full of good tunes. One of my favorite albums.
Hey Tom!!! You have it made man! You & the kids hanging out had to be too much fun to be legal!!! Glad to hear it!!!
I was in 12 string mode this week. Brilliant chords and the solo is majestic as well. PT !
Love to you and yours, Uncle Larry!
❤tone genius making that beautiful guitar sound beautiful-er

Hangin with all the grand chillins! Lovin you and your website!
Lordy! That 12-string sounds spectacular.
Bravo!
SO we havent seen tom in a while, where are we all meeting up without him?
Uncle Larry’s singing voice highly underrated! Love it!
Truth! Uncle Larry can definitely sing.
How great is Rabbit on the keyboards of “You Bet”? What an amazing track all around.

you rule tom !!
Children are a joy without measure.
Tommy, Tommy, Tommy! You and the rock opera.
Thanks Tom, for an excellent channel. We follow you daily. Love it ..the WHO blow my mind..especially LIVE..viseral monster rockwriting..incredible band..peace out my man🍺
Thank you Tom!
Camp Dad! Hanging with the boys always has the best effect on you. I'm sure it's very much both ways. I can feel the class smiling.
Hey Tom, I think I walked by you and your family at The Struts show last week. I hope you guys had an awesome time! Thanks for all that you share and love the channel. Thanks for everything
Happy to hear of your spending time with your son's.Warms my heart !

I couldn't agree with you more about those 2 great artists. Townsend on his J-200 is a force of nature
Seeing the Who movie The Kids Are Alright the week it opened, the summer I was eleven, is why I started playing guitar and still do. Always nice to see someone taking their number one job seriously.
And boy I’ve been playing that song wrong for a long time…..
Wearing my Home Skoolin’ Premium Tone t shirt i got for my birthday!
Those memories are better than anything you could do in camp! You bet Uncle Larry...best quote ever...
Dad camp is the best summer camp! Cheers Tom!!
BRAVO on the "memories" choice!! WELL played Sir.
Tom you are the man, your videos are endlessly packed with incredible covers and knowledge of the songs/ industry and general life. Your an inspiration man and I look forward to every video you post. You've inspired this old dog beyond belief. Thank you man 🤘
My favorite Yusuf song of late is...Everytime I dream, off the Roadsinger album.
Takes me on a trip without leaving the house!
Man. Good call on all those Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam deep cuts. Incredible…I hadn’t listened to those in years. I know EXACTLY that attitude; and I know it personally. Good on you, Buk. Way good.
Tom - so much wisdom in this episode - fatherin', Who-appreciatin', and even a nubbin about tuning down a 12-string and adding a capo. Thank you!
Much more than camp memories, memories with Dad are the most important!
Goddamn, the glory in those chords. You can get blissfully lost inside the bliss of those chords all day and night (Slit Skirts is another). Thanks for this great video! Long live Pete.
Sounds great

You’re a good Dad, dude. 👍
Pete’s brilliant. I always had a soft spot for “Athena” off “It’s Hard” because I had a crush on a girl named Athena. Another song with that pushing tempo.
Excellent..thanks Tom
That was an Uncle Larry burnin' on all cylinders man. Sweet
the syncopation between the guitars, keyboard, and bass during the intro of You Better, You Bet is one of my favorite parts of all time!
We can wait, solo dad mode is way more important. Always happy to have you back when you have time.
I just wanna say that you remind me I’m on the right path thank you.
"You welcome me with open arms and open legs" haha 😆 those chord changes are ridiculously creative. 12 string arp melody sounds great.
Be cheering for you at Boston TD Garden this weekend.
you're right about the memories, way to go Tom!
Sitting…forever has been and always will be my absolute favorite Cat Stevens’ song.
Awesome! I love the Who, and Uncle Larry channeling Tom Waits sings You Better You Bet - man it don't get better than this, I was singing along too! I haven't heard this in ages - thanx for this!

Tom! In case nobody told you, we dig your videos. I hope you're having fun, and I'm forward to the next one, brother.
Thanks for this extra fun video. It was great to wake up to.
There's nothing like playing a nice acoustic and singing. It's like medicine for the soul. Thanks for the chord rundown on "You Better You Bet".

Love the lesson on PT songwriting! My favorite.

Love the talk/sign thing. It's real. It's you. It works.
Best teacher ever. Thanx. Now I know a new song. A new old song that I had never bothered to learn back then.
Holy Fuck. I've been listenting to that song since the dawning of MTV. You have totally opened my ears up to this again. Thx.
Omg. That song is so good. Thanks for playing that. Always loved it, and… let my love open the door. So good nice job keeping the rhythm and singing / it was perfect. I love your rhythm playing. and nice singing I was singing along. Ha!

you're absolutely right! to heck with camp...you did the right thing.
Got my tickets for Boston a long time ago!!! Can’t wait!!!
I’ll second that plug for Taylor guitars 12 strings. I have had a Taylor full walnut jumbo for years and it sounds fantastic! Great energetic playing Tom.
Besides working on music I too have been spending time with the kids seems to have been very soul soothing.
I love you Tom
I love Sarah ❤️
When you started playing the intro I started hearing the bass part in my head. You Better You Bet is one of my favorites.
nice! Just grabbed tickets for the Irsay gig- I will wear my Homeskool shirt~
Tom is a gentleman and a scholar
Thanks bro
Come out to Pdx
We need some uncle Larry up in these parts
Always good to see you Uncle Larry. I was in JR. High when the Who hit the radio. And Senior High when Cat Stevens first hit FM. Those first few records of Cat's still touch me with Magic.
I played a big house party on the Forth. And played a request, "Behind Blue Eyes". And played "How Can I tell You" for my girlfriend who was also there. Much respect...

Thanks for coming to St. John's NL last year. We were so lucky to get to see you play with Ann and the Dawgs❤
