  • This video kicks off a series of videos I will be making this year, which is part of my Holme Fen project. Within the series, I will take you around the fantastic and unique Fen woodland, showing you the photography potential in each area, explaining some of the history of the place and the various biodiversity projects ongoing by NE West Anglia & the Great Fen.
    This first video starts from the north eastern tip on the Fen, in Stilton Roughs at the Trundle Mere Lookout hide.
    More updates on progress with this project will be published on my Facebook page - Jamie Overland Photography

    Hi Jamie, I have been a follower of your channel for about a year and a half, love what you do and how you show off the Fens. I have never visited that area of England and so you doing a project that allows us to visit some of the sites will be fantastic for the likes of me. I look forward to more from you and I hope to spend some time there soon with my cameras to capture some of this beautiful location.

    'Just bare with me a minute' made me laugh. The real time thinking is a great motif and draws the viewer in. It suits your style and relaxed personality as well.
    I never made the best of Norfolk when I lived there, so I'm doing it retrospectively through your eyes. I just re-organised my photo's catalogue by 'address taken from', so all the Norfolk ones are in one folder now. (Amazing what you'll put your mind to on a rainy weekend). We have a wide expanse, about 20 miles, of flat moss locally you'd feel quite at home in, doted with islands of glacial moraine.
    I wouldn't worry about the clear blue skies. Clouds would have detracted from the shot of the hide as the branches of the silver birch were a key compositional element to the shot and wouldn't have been so prominent with clouds behind them. Think of it as a blank canvas to arrange your elements on, it can also be used as negative space as well of course. Landscape photographers have just got into a mindset that its a negative, its just different; like low sun or frost, not there all the time.
    Good luck with the project, I look forwards to further installments.

    • @JamieOverland
      @JamieOverland  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Iain, as always for your thought out comments. I think you’re right about clouds behind the hide, it would have detracted. As someone else has said, maybe catching those geese in flight would have been a useful addition. I was so relaxed on this day that I just wanted to enjoy it and in some way, recording the video was secondary hence the ‘bare with me’ comment 😀

      @@JamieOverland I had a weird one yesterday. I went to a local circular shaped Moss of about ten acres that is surrounded by a silver birch wood. Went in on to the west, thought I'd walked pretty much half way around the circumference and logically would come out on the east side; only to come out of the woods and look around. 'Hang on a minute, those mountains should be there!'. Totally discombobulated.
      I had to check the time and the position of the sun to confirm to myself I wasn't facing east. I'd come out facing south-west. Didn't even recognise a farmhouse I'd worked at until I had gone around it. That's it, I'm on the slippery slope to the nursing home :-/
